Well just after seeing and hearing all the absurd saber designs a saber like in the movie doesn't seem THAT ridiculous and I'm wondering how a spinny saber works instead of the tri-saber. Still hope they'll explain the tri-saber in the Movie.
I love how everybody go nuts over a tri-bladed saber but I hardly heard a thing over the Inquisitor's spinny laser disc saber from Rebels
I like to imagine something like this happens in the next scene:
The cross saber is physically impossible, and I feel that by adding it they are ruining the movie
A lightsaber ruining the whole movie? Right.
The cross saber is physically impossible, and I feel that by adding it they are ruining the movie
good god
A lightsaber ruining the whole movie? Right.
You know they have to at least SOMEWHAT stay in reality or else the whole thing just falls apart
The cross saber is physically impossible, and I feel that by adding it they are ruining the movie
And... And normal lightsabers are physically possible? If so, I'll take one. [editline]29th November 2014[/editline]
It's redundant because you could easily shift a lightsaber in a way that it would cut the blade off
That's not redundancy for starters. Second, a couple of points have been brought up about those parts. One point is that they are covers over more of the guard that stop the wielder's hands from sliding up in to the blade itself, and so a lightsaber slicing through the top part would just cut through the top and then meet the rest of the guard inside. The second one is that there are materials in the Star Wars universe that cannot be cut by a lightsaber, and that the projectors there are made from that. Either is a perfectly reasonable explanation. [editline]29th November 2014[/editline] And really the Star Wars universe has seen a few other odd lightsaber designs in its time: [thumb]http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100423040717/starwars/images/b/be/Forked_Lightsaber.JPG[/thumb][thumb]http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110918165551/starwars/images/a/a6/Darksaber-SWE.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090621063638/starwars/images/7/7d/Nightsister_JATM.jpg[/thumb]
The only thing that is weird about the crossguard is that it's totally ineffective. It might just be an aesthetic choice but if some hits you with a lighsaber on the crossguard, the lightsaber would automatically be deflected and slide down towards the hilt where no protection is, cutting the hilt in pieces. Crossguards like that are mostly designed to get your opponents blade somewhat stuck in your sword and to protect your hand. Sorry if this seems pretty nerdy but that was just my initial thought. Although Star Wars was never really about accurate science-fiction. It's more of a space fantasy thing than anything.

That's a good explanation. Although just some medal would have sufficed, but the other one looks more fancy I guess. I would have probably cut myself multiple times with those two things on the side.
i can't believe one goddamn lightsaber can cook up such a shitstorm self-entitled lore purists are the worst
I thought the actual reason behind the cross guards was that, since the emperor killed the remaining jedi, he lost the original crystals used for lightsabers, so he was forced to create synthetic crystals that were not as stable or as efficient as the natural crystals, hence the requirement for vents and a different sound.
I never got why you wouldn't just switch the saber off when swinging and power it up again when you have gone past the attempted parry. Maybe the cross guard will be used more to deflect shots that saber combat or even turning on just the cross guard and throwing it like a force controlled boomerang. Makes for some interesting situations if they decide to innovate.
It's fucking science fiction, it doesn't have to make any sense.
The Jedi have always been the lamest part of the Star Wars universe, but people just can't get over guys on wires jumping around swinging glowing dicks around. I prefer them in the original trilogy where they were more monks instead of just being anime characters.
You mean those 3 guys who were basically in exile because they were forced to eradication? I'd as well give up drinking if it made my life under danger.
Star Wars literally has magic in it and people are mad the lightsaber isn't realistic.
It looked ok, actually. Nothing bothered me too much, although the X-wings flying so close to the water was silly (still looked cool). The lightsaber is kind of weird, if you wanted an actual crossguard you'd make something like this (made by some anon on 8chan): It's actually practical and doesn't require lightsaber resistant material (which is super hard to find) or anything. They probably went with the design in the movie due to the exhaust thing being thrown around. If they're actual crossguards then, well, that's dumb. Hopefully the movie's good. Can't wait for it to come out and be delighted/dissapointed!
That's because Rebels isn't that well liked and hardly anyone knew to begin with.
That's not true at all

Flying low to the ground is used as a strategy to avoid being detected by radar.
That's not true at all
The adventures of space Aladdin is liked? Well, whatever floats your boat.
What was up with the X-wings flying close to the water? Flying low to the ground is used as a strategy to avoid being detected by radar.
It's just that you'd think people with fancy shmancy spaceships would have the tech to detect aircraft trying to do that. Maybe I'm wrong and aircraft detection systems really don't get that much better with space-tech.
This teaser has had quite a few humorous edits.
The adventures of space Aladdin is liked? Well, whatever floats your boat.
It is nothing like that, watch past the pilot/movie. It is a good show once it kicks off It seems well liked in the Star Wars mega thread down in the film/tv section
It's fucking science fiction, it doesn't have to make any sense.
isn't it more like science fantasy?
isn't it more like science fantasy?
Actually it's history documentary.
It is nothing like that, watch past the pilot/movie.
There was a mission in Rogue Squadron where you needed to do that, fly below the Space RADAR
Didn't you have to fly under because of all the missile turrets on the surface? If we're talking about the first Rogue Squadron.
Didn't you have to fly under because of all the missile turrets on the surface? If we're talking about the first Rogue Squadron.
Oh I forgot about that one. No i was referring to RS2 when you have to steal the imperial shuttle [editline]29th November 2014[/editline]
What episode does it kick off from?
That is all personal opinion, but I've liked it since "Droids in Distress", the "First" episode. I put first in quotes because its weird, some sites list the Movie/Pilot as the first episode, but a lot of others list "Droids in Distress" as the first episode.
