• Comcast takes the first step in destroying Net Neutrality

I live in Philly, and I'm pretty much forced to use Comcast. Hell, the are headquartered in the Comcast Building in center city Philly, the single largest skyscraper in the state. The chances of FIOS coming in are astronomically low.
I have a local cable company called RCN and I get decent broadband services. Hell I miss it where I am now because I get throttled up the ass at 3 AM when no one is on. Fucking Clarkson. This is what the second amendment is for.
If anything, Government mandated net-neutrality is what should be worried about.
Agree 100 %. Summed it up.
Inb4 everyone in Finland gets free 1mb broadband by law.
Agree 100 %. Summed it up.
"Oh god the government is actually PROTECTING OUR RIGHTS!!!!"
Just out of curiosity, does everyone where you live have a goatee?
Star Trek parallel universe?
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/net-neutrality-not-dead-yet/4219
On Monday, Level 3 said that Comcast is charging a fee to deliver online movies—think a toll booth for Netflix. This charge equated to a toll, argued Level 3, which was wrapping itself in the net neutrality banner. Comcast said Level 3 was just trying to get over on the cable provider by gobbling up bandwidth without paying for it. Comcast argued that the deal it offered Level 3 is the same one other content delivery networks received.
calm down everyone
It's rather sad that they have CDNs by the balls like that in the first place. Bits are bits and high levels of multimedia consumption are the norm, especially in the US - and having yourself already oversubscribed doesn't help either. Shady.
Comcast in my area is awesome. 30 mb/s download(at the best) and 10 mb/s upload(at the best) and my internet only goes down if there something that I did or something with the router. It's weird. I know a lot of people who hate Comcast and I see all these bad things about them but the one where I live is great.
Haha that sucks for all of you comcast users..my ISP never goes down, gives the speed it promises (up to 12, i usually get 10+, and the upload rate is always the highest it can go) for 49.99 (can do 20/2 for 60)
Brb, switching to Verizon Fios.
Just Comcast realizing what a bunch of pussies everyone on the internet is and how no one will dare protest this shit.
Comcast isn't that bad, where I live at least. My internet, or TV is never down, and I have ~30mbps down, and ~4mbps up. I don't get why everyone's bitching.
Even though comcast pulls shit like this they would still be much better than my current internet provider, Suddenlink. Fuck you Suddenlink, Fuck you.
At least you don't have to deal with Charter Communications.
If anything, Government mandated net-neutrality is what should be worried about. Sometimes it seems like they're already moving in that direction, under the guise of anti-piracy.
How do failing anti-piracy measures have anything to do with the government mandating that content over the Internet must be treated equally? If anything, this is one place where the market cannot be trusted. The FCC needs to step in. If comcast didn't own a FUCKING MONOPOLY in my area, I'd have something else, but I'm shit out of luck. I get half the rates I should be getting in terms of up and download speeds, and this shit right here just makes it worse.
I wish the strongest of ill circumstances towards them for their transgressions. May their stocks plummet and their hardware all burn out. Thankfully I ain't with Comcast. I think i'm with O2.
honestly this shit can fuck right off [editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
Thankfully I ain't with Comcast. I think i'm with O2.
Aren't O2 europe only? And aren't Comcast USA only?
At least you don't have to deal with Charter Communications.
I haven't had a problem with Charter, yet, and I've had their service for a few years.
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-11-30/fcc-looking-into-charge-against-comcast-over-fee.html The FCC is looking into it. And to the people saying the government shouldn't step in, just start another ISP that allows those freedoms, it's practically impossible. There is millions in infrastructure you need to build plus get enough subscribers in an area to make it profitable, and also not get swallowed by the larger companies. This is why things like anti-trust cases are made.
I haven't had a problem with Charter, yet, and I've had their service for a few years.
I.Fucking.Hate.Charter. Sure I get 1 megabyte a second download and 512kbps upload but I can't fucking play a game without lagging out....they throttle the piss out of me.
Soon there will be riots.
Comcast has always been shit, they're just getting worse. Glad I don't have it, but I feel sorry for those that do.

Might be location. On topic, I think that Comcast really needs to learn when it's pissing it's users and the internet in general off.
My dad works for Comcast. This is inexcusable. I mean its not like he has much of a say in what happens, but damn it I hate Comcast now even more than before.
Please god Embarq you never failed me before, don't fuck with me list Comcast does.
