I think it's less "They're icky people" and more "Let's give something to those less fortunate than us whilst at the same time telling A&F to go fuck themselves."
I was once homeless for almost a year. Back then, I'd have been perfectly okay with this.
what a stupid idea. a seasoned homeless person wouldn't be caught wearing anything like that to avoid being mugged. most end up selling anything nice they get.
It's pretty clear his main intention is to stick it to A&F and their CEO. I don't doubt that his intentions are good, but it all just seems like kneejerk, feelgood fingerquotes-activism that hasn't been thought out properly. Do you think all those homeless people know or care about A&F and their CEO? Do you think they'll feel empowered and have their life improved by some guy on camera handing out trendy shirts for his own personal cause?
I don't know about you, but if I were homeless and I saw a guy going around to all of us on camera to get us to wear special clothes for some petty attack at some rich guy I don't know or care about, solely because we're homeless and we'd "hurt their image", I'd feel pretty degraded.
The homeless are people too. They're not these tools you can exploit for your own gain, whether or not your intentions are noble.

And how would this even help the homeless, anyway? One item of A&F clothing won't get them far. And even if A&F did make a change, it's not like the homeless would shop there anyway.
You have absolutely no concept of how bad skidrow is, do you? Even one, single, fresh clean T-Shirt is a godsend to people stuck there. I'd suggest taking a walk down it were you not several thousand miles away sitting comfortably at home in front of a computer.

You're missing the point. It's objectifying the homeless first and foremost. You can help the homeless without objectifying them for some cause.
Recall back to last year with the whole Hobojacket thing. If you missed it, it was a site that allowed you to donate jackets of rival schools to the homeless, in an attempt to harm the rival school's image. It went viral for little while and was met with heavy criticism because even though it was giving the homeless clothes, it was first and foremost using the homeless as tools for their own gain. Because of all the criticism, the site's creators took down the site and issued an apology that clearly admitted they were objectifying the homeless.
This is no different.
surely this is kind of offensive to homeless people, in saying that by them wearing A&F clothes they are ruining the brand. The only way this wouldn't be offensive would be if it didnt ruin the brand in which case this endeavor was pointless.
We're dealing with actual people here. Whether or not he personally believes the homeless are gross or uncool or whatever doesn't matter since he's still treating them this way.
i don't get how you can turn something as nice as giving clothing to the homeless into a bad thing but great job
Ambercrombie is not that douchebaggy now-a-days. It more or less makes you look pretty homosexual though the way they market their clothing.
It's nice that he was giving clothes to the homeless though, douchebag clothing or not.
That store smells like shit and sounds like shit :v:
Knew this was gonna happen after what the CEO said. :v
What DID he say?

Pretty much said that they would rather burn their unsold clothing than donate them because only people of a certain "stature" can wear them.

if he was just giving clothing to the homeless it wouldn't be a bad thing
but he's just exploiting their situation and image by using them to "ruin the image" of A&F first and foremost.
this shouldn't be a difficult concept. it's happened before. the fact that they're getting a shirt doesn't simply cancel out the fact they're being objectified and treated like dirt
