I always used my Vita to play nothing but PS1 and PS2 classics.

Market has select ps2 games (example include ratchet and clank, jak and daxter)
What? Vita can't play PS2 games. Unless you're talking about streaming games from a PS4 or PS Now.
Did it work well? Like a really good ammount of titles for it?
Its probably the only reason why I would even consider getting one.
There are no PS2 games, I don't know what they're talking about. But PS1 games are available and they work great. However, Vita has a very strange compatibility list for PS1 games due to licensing. All of them were licensed for PSP and PS3, but Sony neglected to then license all of them for Vita as well once it came around.
Sony themselves never provided a definitive compatibility list, though, and all the fan lists out there are in various states of outdatedness. My advice would be to go to the PSN web store for your region (very important since the licenses differ per region) and look up the games you want; if they can be transferred to a Vita, they will specifically list Vita as a compatible system.
So enlighten me, does this mean it'll be possible to bang emulators on it and use it for anything but psvita games?
I feel like Android gaming devices you can find have come a long way, and if you only cared about emulation you're better off getting something like that instead of dealing with a Vita and jailbreaking and this and that.

FYI, some PS2 games (like ratchet & clank and MGS titles) got HD remasters for vita, thats probably what he's talking about

Could also be Vice City/Liberty City Stories, which was released for PS2 as well as PSP.
VCS worked pretty well on Vita. Shame about the draw distance issue being carried over in the port, but have to say I found the stark colors of Vice City to look absolutely gorgeous on the OLED screen.

Not released yet but actual proof. This will let you decrypt the eboot files which was pretty much the final hurdle. Oh yeah Chinese guy was legit too, second game was Odin Sphere but he got mad and didn't release the tools
Would be really sick if someone could access the low-level stuff and chain in a linux loader like those fail0verflow guys did, they got arch linux running completely natively on a ps4, and said that even writing drivers for the PS4's gpu would be possible.
Man all i want is to play the Uncharted game for Vita and nothing else. And why are Vitas still more expensive used and new than 3DS?

While it isn't on the same level as the Vita or Android devices, the GCW-Zero is a decent alternative for emulators. Especially now that there is a good PS1 emulator for it.
Upcoming W3D gaming smartphone looks way more worth it to tinker on rather than these things called Vita.

Being a smartphone is already a huge merit, with even PS2 emulation is in on the way.

I'm not sure there is anything that can beat GPD XD if you need a portable device for emulation.

Which manage to run worse than their original versions at times and also don't even run at an HD resolution
Which manage to run worse than their original versions at times and also don't even run at an HD resolution
Things very rarely tend to run at higher than native res on consoles. You shouldn't expect any games to do that.
(only exception to this that I know of is Okami for the PS3 that ran at 3840 x 2160)

What? Correct me if it's an exception, but FFX HD runs at Vita's native screen which is significantly higher than PAL (576i); don't all of the HD remasters? FFX HD also has higher some higher resolution content and is basically superior to the PS2 original in every way I can think of.

The same reason why a used PS4 costs more than a new Xbox 360.

Okami ran at 1080p with 4x MSAA, not at 4K
And more just I'm joking about the term HD remaster

the entertainment industry defined HD as minimum 720p, and the Vita screen is 540p (not exactly but close enough). And FFXHD Vita is upgraded but has measurably worse performance than the PS2 and runs below the native resolution of the Vita
