They need to improve the internet outside the major cities it's fucking terrible, I barely get 1mbps and it's unstable as fuck.
You should live in the rural US.
Dial-up still considered a serious option if you can't afford satellite.
I get 800kb/s down, 25kb/s up. I'm in the UK, so don't think just because a few have high speeds that all of us do :(
That's twice what I receive. I'm with BT, live in a fairly average town also with a BT exchange 3 miles down the road and I hit 400kb/s on a good day.
thats an awesome speed but 40gb monthly usage allowance? thats pretty poor
hhhhhhahahahaha and this is why BT are still fucking terrible
That was a pretty dumb and pretentious thing to say. It is amazing when you dont live in the best internet-connected area outside of Asia (Stockholm), and it is amazing considering 5-8 years ago the max you could get in 90% of the UK was 24mb broadband (Which normally connected at 1/3rd of that due to noise, distance from exchange etc)
Heh, I live in Stockholm and I'm still on 24/8 internet since they haven't laid down the fiber cables in our area, and probably won't do it for a long while. Funny thing is that only 20 km from me people are able to get 500-1000 mbit internet.
[editline]12th April 2012[/editline]
wow just checked my ISP site, they have actually started draggin the cables in our area. holy
ALL MY SERVERS!
Take them! ALL OF THEM!
My area just got activated for FTC last week.. getting it installed on the 18th.. hopefully it'll be the 80/20 automatically!
It's 2012 and ISPs still limit monthly bandwidth? I don't think we've had bandwidth limits in Denmark and 100+ Mbit/s has been around for years in Scandinavia.
meanwhile, 1000/1000 mbit fiber has been available for a pretty long time in sweden now.
Just so you know guys, bt infinity 2 is unlimited, bt infinity 1 is data capped
There are two separate plans
Unless i'm terribly, terribly wrong
My area just got activated for FTC last week.. getting it installed on the 18th.. hopefully it'll be the 80/20 automatically!
Virgin upgraded their stuff to 60mb but you have to request the upgrade if your already an existing customer.
Virgin Media really are a terrible company.
Fucking sort me out then. 136kb/s come at me.

Sometimes it gets real bad...

As the fibre roll out was partly BT funded they get first use of it, 3rd party ISP's are getting access now.
90kb/s download speeds represent, awww yisssss.
My area just got activated for FTC last week.. getting it installed on the 18th.. hopefully it'll be the 80/20 automatically!
It should be in that case. I'm already on 40/10 but signed up to be put up to 80/20 as soon as I saw this and my activation date was the 18th.
Joy. Now make "Superfast Broadband" available in the sticks, and I'll be happy.
40GB is disgusting id rather stick with my 2.0MB download and no caps than have this 80 bullshit.

The upgrade to 80/20 cost virtually nothing and didn't involve any new hardware, it uses pre-existing cables but they just raised the speed limit. This isn't taking money or resources away from fibre rollout
So lucky to have infinity. Here they said they were upgranding the exchange on 31st march now it says 30th June. The infrastructure is so old some buildings share lines so you can listen to your neighbours phone or cant get on the internet if someone gets a phone call . it's not like its a rural low population area but i think BT are scared the gypoes and scousers will stealing all their cables.
Just checked it isn't available for me yet. 30th June apparently.
I think I'll stick with my Unlimited package for now.
My area has been active for 6 months but they still say it is unavailable for me at my box.
I think they really need to work on their accessibility. Neither BT nor Virgin supply my estate and we're at the edges of a City so it's frustrating.
I wish I could have that but unfortunately I'm stuck (for now) in a small town that will never get access to fibre optics. I'm not actually that bothered by my net speed its the bloody 40Gb cap that pisses me off. I actually have to think about whether I really want to watch a youtube video....

40GB data cap, lol
I couldn't stand living with one of those things I probably use up that in 15 days
You guys are lucky with your multiple choices. Here in Canada, we only have 3 major companies. All three are the same, they all have caps like this and they start charging you higher and higher because they know that you can't escape.
Hell, pretty much every third party company uses Bell's land line, which is horrible because it went down on me for 2 weeks once. Rogers has problems with the modem/router they give you, which drops connection and makes everything go all wonky often, and I'm not even going to attempt Telus.
On topic, 40 GB of data is horrible. You can easily go through that in a month, even if you don't do any big downloads.
That bump....
Also, I jelly, I have 2.9 mbs download, 0.1 upload
I'm on Infinity with option 2. Our estimate based on a landline number gave us 55mbps down and 18mbps up on the BT site. It's been nearly a month and our speeds are always at 55mbps down and 14mbps which, is pretty awesome when I was used to 3mbps down and 0.3mbps up!
thats an awesome speed but 40gb monthly usage allowance? thats pretty poor
I got 2gb per month :(
I have 150/65. Not impressed by this.
I get 100mbit internet for "free" with my student apartment. :v:
And for 10 bucks a month I also get 100mbit upload if needed, I get 10 right now.
Yay Sweden.
Edit:
Also, nice bump.
