So they didn't uncover sensitive information?
i thought they just published sensitive information other people gave them?
Is there any large difference? In the end it's still sensitive information that the public is not supposed to know about getting leaked.
Is there any large difference? In the end it's still sensitive information that the public is supposed to know about getting leaked.
i'd say there is. they aren't stealing documents or anything like that. they get given information and they release it.
So they didn't uncover sensitive information?
I'm saying that the Nobel peace prize isn't about uncovering sensitive info.
Feels like "uncover" can still be used to describe what they are doing. "Removing the cover of" the secret documents. "Publishing" the secret douments. "Releasing" the secret documents. I don't see how that's "shit that I've made up" according to Sir Whoopsalot.

It's all about promoting "west values" to the rest of the world and uncovering sensitive information.
And here's what Nobel's will said with regards to who should get the peace prize:
According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded to the person who “...shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
I'm afraid I phrased it badly. "The Nobel "peace" prize isn't about the peace we know". When I wrote that I meant that the peace prize that is handed out nowadays from Norway is barely based on Nobel's will. The peace that we know is as the peace that Nobel is speakig of; Peace between nations, abolition of standing armies, setteling conflicts. The most recent laureates Obama and Liu Xiaobo have hardly created peace between nations. Even though I don't have anything against Liu Xiaobo and his struggle for democracy or Obama and his strong motivation for change. They haven't haven't created the peace between nations that we often think of when hearing the word peace. In my opionon the Nobel peace prize is the most vague prize of them all.
Go Wikileaks! I hope they win.
Honest question, what peace have they brought?
Telling the world the truth is for me one step closer to peace... or to riots.
Telling the world the truth is for me one step closer to peace... or to riots.
Telling the truth =/= peace.
Telling the truth =/= peace.
Although telling the truth can help bring peace. Usually brings war though.
Although telling the truth can help bring peace. Usually brings war though.
Telling the truth Wikileaks style can't ever bring the former if you ask me.
This is the problem, above all it endangers lives and tells people too much.
this is a frequent argument against wikileaks, that it tells people too much you do not decide what is 'too much' information.
Oh yeah I remember all that peace when that whole shitstorm was going on. Whether you agreed with Wikileaks or not, if you notice, nothings really changed at all. It just made everybody bitch and caused the opposite of peace. [editline]5th February 2011[/editline]
this is a frequent argument against wikileaks, that it tells people too much you do not decide what is 'too much' information.
Well we shouldn't wait until something bad happens to find out when too much information is given. We should be proactive not reactive.
there's no such thing as too much information.
People get stupid ideas all the time and then use them to try to stir up trouble.
People get stupid ideas all the time and then use them to try to stir up trouble.
what?
None, that's why he posted it. Can't have those overly protective "my country is awesome and can do no wrong" people let something like logic or sense fuck up their arguments, now can we?
I remember when I was like that when I was 5
is your stepfather mentally retarded?
is your stepfather mentally retarded?
Or American maybe?
All you idiots saying that it "endangers" people, where did you hear that from? Would you guys believe that that story started from the governments Wikileaks exposed in the first place? Because guess what, it did.
keyword: stepfather. tell him to fuck off. your seventeen.
Wikileaks to daddy issues. The one stop thread for everybody.
also, i think albert einstein was the first rapist to be nominated for the nobel prize his atomic bomb totally raped >200,000 people
I agree, albert einstein shouldn't have gone to war with japan
What peace have they brought, exactly? [editline]6th February 2011[/editline]
there's no such thing as too much information.
You are fucking dumb. As if in no case would making all information public be a bad idea. etc. I'm not saying that Wikileaks has put anyone in danger, I'm just saying that a completely open government is stupid.
Wouldn't surprise me. Every time I bring logic into the conversation it seems that he ignores it. "Why can't I use the computer next door?" "You'll exceed your video game time" "Why do I still have 'video game time' at age 17?" "You have to learn how to follow rules" "I've proven many times over the years that I can. Why does it apply for both television, video games AND the internet?" "You're grounded."
Go use the computer anyway.
It will be interesting to see how America reacts to this, especially considering how they reacted to China when they refused to let the last winner attend.
Get a sharp pencil, practice your mad eyes and use the following phrase while holding the pencil like a knife. "If you touch my stuff again I'll murder your friends. Every last one." Say it slowly with emphasis on each word.
America will sleep with all the judges to make sure they dont win.
Imagine fucking a continent, that'll be a good fuck.
I don't see why he is receiving the award. So far all he has done is released the equivalent of peoples' private text messages... There has been barely anything on China, Russia or Iran. The only good thing so far was that thing about the Copenhagen conference and the Vatican City covering up the child rape cases.
