you win the "I could shit on a canvas and call it art" award :)
He's got a point though. If art is subjective, is shitting on the wall any less valid than a beautiful mural?
He's got a point though. If art is subjective, is shitting on the wall any less valid than a beautiful mural?
people bringing up the "i could shit on a canvas" argument aren't saying "anything can be art", they're saying the art in question is worse than shit smeared on a wall it's a sneaky position to make really, since anyone who attacks them gets pinned as not being open minded about what can/can't be art (also it gets you banned if you snipe a thread with it)
the art is subjective discussion is stupid when talking about things like this if you're gonna define what can and cannot be put on public places because it might or might not be art, it's easier to go by "what people usually define as art", because arguing the subjectivity of art is stupid if, after all, it really is subjective.
He got tased not for vandalism but for running and resisting arrest. I really just don't know about some people anymore. They apparently want police reduced to people who just politely ask you to not do something but can't stop you from doing it. And then the police would be responsible when they failed to stop whatever crime it was.
Why they say it's a second degree misdemeanor, when vandalism is a felony? I also like how they portray the officer(s) who tased him as "the bad guy(s)" when he was clearly trying to run away. Don't commit crimes and these things wouldn't happen.
the problem is that the police werent supposed to taze him just because he was running away. the cops own sop on the use of force lays this out pretty clearly.
Right, I'll remember that next time I'm faced with the option of being hit with a tazer or a round from a 9mm glock handgun.
Or you know, you don't fucking run from the police. Then they wont have to shoot you or taze you.
Or you know, you don't fucking run from the police. Then they wont have to shoot you or taze you.
let's put this in terms of "kid on the streets" logic > you are doing something that can get you in trouble, acknowledging the risk that if the cops find you they'll probably arrest you, shit gets put on your record, you'll be given tons of hours of community service, face fines, maybe face some issues with school > shit the cops found you > you weren't killing anybody so it isn't like they're going to get out of their car and chase you, just book it til you're on the next street over > shit they're chasing you
let's put this in terms of "kid on the streets" logic > you are doing something that can get you in trouble, acknowledging the risk that if the cops find you they'll probably arrest you, shit gets put on your record, you'll be given tons of hours of community service, face fines, maybe face some issues with school > shit the cops found you > you weren't killing anybody so it isn't like they're going to get out of their car and chase you, just book it til you're on the next street over > shit they're chasing you
Running is still one of the worst things you could do "kid on the streets" logic or not.
Running is still one of the worst things you could do "kid on the streets" logic or not.
yeah, in most cases if the cop doesn't know you're doing something wrong, it tells them you know you were doing something really wrong. One time I was walking around with some friends in our town and two kids that one of my friends kinda knew ended up passing by and talking with him for a few minutes. They were riding those tiny stunty bikes and headed to a skatepark nearby I presume. The reason I mention the bikes is that a cop rolled past us and one guy shouted "FUCK!" and took off pedaling as fast as he could (which on those bikes is hilarious because it wobbles back and forth if you're standing and pedalling), and the other guy dropped his bike and bolted through a yard in the opposite direction, leaving us all standing there like "what the shit" ONLY THEN did the cop turn on his lights, back up, then get out to say hi to MY group. Took us nearly an hour to get through talking with him, have other cops swing by, explaining what we were doing and where we were going. Also some chitchat at the end because reverse stockholm syndrome or something
Running is still one of the worst things you could do "kid on the streets" logic or not.
then you've had no experience with that no, i've never been a "kid on the streets", but i know a lot of people that have, and most of them have quite a bit of experience with running away from the police and have a lot of stories about it. "that one time when we had to hide in the woods? yeah dude that was awesome!" just saying that it becomes something banal and instinctive after some time

way to miss the point of my post entirely
One possibility is the cops are actually corrupt mafia henchman and they cornered and murdered him with a taser then sprayed paint on a wall to frame him, but for some reason half the thread would fling a huge bitchfit about even admitting that's a possibility. None of the articles say it, but none of the articles say it didn't happen either.
kid, there's a huge difference between "the kid might have run towards the cops" and that 9/11 truther level bullshit you just spewed
way to miss the point of my post entirely

just saying that it becomes something banal and instinctive after some time
So you say a story about people you know who have experience running from police, then say it's instinctive. And you say your post WASN'T about running from police being instinctive? You were even replying to someone saying running was bad to say it was instinctive. What was the point of your post?
SH is a good way to get another sprinkling of opinion on top of the news corporations twist on your news.

you: but its not fine to run from the police, what a stupid idea [editline]15th August 2013[/editline] sorry to resort to such a stupid way of showing what i mean but its late and i cant be arsed to make up a proper response

You came up with how these people you know ran from the police and said how awesome it was to do so, then went straight to saying it was instinct. Seemed like you were saying it was instinct to run and brag about how cool it was to do so. My point is no matter why they ran, it was always the worst choice to make. What you say makes sense now, but it was still the wrong thing to do regardless. It makes you even more suspicious than you were in the first place. If there was a misunderstanding I'm sorry.
I'm not even gonna try to argue the whole "Don't run" attitude. The cops are doing their job. People just shouldn't do illegal shit because it ends bad for both sides.
It's a tragedy, but not because the police brutally murdered some innocent kid. I see it as a freak accident that ended in the death of a teenager, which is definitely tragic but hardly international news. The police involved did everything they were supposed to do and let's be honest here, they almost certainly feel like shit because they killed somebody.
From what I heard in a certain version of this story, one of the witnesses recalled seeing them nudging each other, and even laughing, congratulating each other on it.
