Sure. Just because something offends people doesn't make it wrong. Heck, Michaelangelo's famous David was fiercely criticized at the time of its release for showing a figure with a dong instead of a fig leaf.

Oh, one more thing. This sculpture is in an exhibit about the evolution of gay portraiture in art. I'm pretty sure any Christians who'd be offended wouldn't be in the exhibit anyway, meaning their chances of actually having to see this are about, oh, zero.
Is there not all sorts of religious art in the Smithsonian?
The religious implications aren't the point... it's the art. Shut up conservatives.
True. I guess really, since there's a freaking Christian message in our pledge of allegiance and even on our currency, I can only see this as being fair.

I'd rather it not be spent on art at all considering art doesn't do much for people don't have degrees in esoteric nonsense besides eliciting the occasional, "oh, that's nice." from a passing tourist.

No because while that is openly supporting religion this is not criticizing it in any way, this is Christians getting offended over absolutely nothing

Well, the "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance could be a Jewish, Christian, or Muslim message as all of those faiths worship the same entity commonly known as God.
Unfortunately, Christmas is coming up. So this is an even bigger deal than in any of the other 11 months.
Has O'Reilly mentioned it on his War On Christmas segment?

Hopefully, because it'll be funny to see just how much shit he'll spew.
I didn't mean that the actual Crucifix itself is a gay reference, I meant that the portrait holds some pretty deep meaning for gay life. Think about the artistic implications; what do ants do, what do they represent?
Ants run around following the one in front, collecting food and building nests, and very few of them get to have sex all day.
I don't get it
I'm under the impression that the Smithsonian doesn't reject art based on religious context, so if anyone made art worthy of being there that 'hated' on any other religion, it would be let in too. So I can't really see any sort of separation of church and state issue here.
But then there's the problem of it not attacking religion whatsoever. If you take a photograph of ants crawling on apples, are you attacking orchid farmers? Of course not, silly over-reactionary religious person.

Ants are all controlled generally by the queen, with the use of scents and whatnot IIRC.
They are all bound to follow and listen, no matter how wrong the queen may be.
Something like that, I would assume.
"the Smithsonian would never have their little ants crawling all over an image of Muhammad."
because how the fuck is that relevant to homosexuals in the united states?
the fuck does jesus crawling with ants have to do with gay pride?
