I shed a manly tear from that little video, it was touching.
he's fighting on the beaches in all of us now :frown:
This guy lived in Hershey Pennsylvania. My hometown isn't that far away from it.
Rest in peace Major. :smith:

Argh, we saw it coming, but it's still horrible. R.I.P. :smith:
and when he gets to heaven, to saint peter he will tell: "Just another soldier reporting, sir I've served my time in hell. Rip :crying:
The 90s took most of them, now it's just the hardy ones who are going. Another 10 and there won't be any, I think. Kind of a shame to see the generation go.
And yet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Buckles

I was lucky enough to meet Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron a while back. I will never forget hearing their stories and having the fortune to meet a couple of true to life war heroes. I wish I was born just a bit earlier, so I could listen to more of the stories of that generation.
This guy lived in Hershey Pennsylvania. One of my mother's co workers is the grand daughter of Wild Bill and he was able to help get into contact with Winters. He was an amazing man to talk, I wish I still had the cassette tape of my interview with him. I even said at the end that there was no way I could ever thank him that would make up for what he went through. He told me to relax, and just live a happy life.
At least he lived to a good age and got his story out into the world. Rest in peace, Major Winters.
I just finished the chapter with the forest, with Heinkel, my ass. And then I read this.
From the little I've seen of this series, these men are true heroes. :patriot: Requiescat in pace
The series wasn't completely true to life but it did a very good job nonetheless. The points of historical inaccuracy were mostly in the set design
True hero. I shed a tear. May you never be forgotten, RIP.

Aw man, he's one of the few people i wanted to meet before they died :C
Fuck. No. :(
My grandmother met Bill Guarnere a few years back at a birthday party for a mutual friend.
He was a funny guy when we met him. Very lively, and certainly not afraid to talk about his experiences and even have a laugh about some of them too.
Fuck, I loved BoB. That guy was a true hero. Rest in Peace :frown:
Godspeed you magnificent bastard :patriot:
god fucking damn it!
A true hero. He will be missed. :patriot:
He was a funny guy when we met him. I loved when he started talking about the Shermans and just as he finished up how they compared horribly to the Panzers he stated, "But frankly...At least we didn't have the Matilda."
Although the BoB miniseries is the only reason I've heard of him; You should really watch it.
*Read the book
I've read the book multiple times, the miniseries was awesome. Sorry to see him go, but he lead a full life.
Fuck, I loved BoB. That guy was a true hero. Rest in Peace :frown:
They all were.
Yeah, he's a pistol. I loved when he started talking about the Shermans and just as he finished up how they compared horribly to the Panzers he stated, "But frankly...At least we didn't have the Matilda."
I'm surprised he would say something like that, because the Matilda was pretty much out of wide-spread use before the USA even entered the war. Even in the time it was in service, it was actually a fairly decent tank (superior armour, it's only drawback being the inability to upgrade it's armament) - it wasn't called 'Queen of Desert' for nothing.
They all were.
On both sides of the war
On both sides of the war
For the most part, but with exceptions.
