Michael Moore: Obama will be remembered as first black president, ‘and that’s it’
"People who live off the government"
Haha, wanna know something great? People wouldn't have to "live off the government" if they could get a livable wage on average. Minimum wage as it is in this country makes it impossible to live any sort of semi-healthy life style. Middle class people I can see that whole "pay $700" thing hurting, but I honestly doubt your dad is telling you the truth, that's either his total expenses for the month from state income tax, federal income tax, health care and whatever else they take from his wages, and/or your dad is making around $4,000 a month or more, aka $25 an hour with a 40 hour work week. Your average low paying job, lets say it makes $8.25 an hour, which is $0.75 higher than federal minimum wage, will bring in about $1,320 a month before taxes with a 40 hour work week. You cannot realistically live off the amount of money you receive from that job, especially because you won't get a 40 hour work week as these corporations are hiring more part time employees instead of full time because part time employees don't have to have near as many benefits as full time workers do.
So, oh noo, those poor rich people, now they'll have to wait another month to buy that fifth summer beach home instead of buying it next week.
It was 700$ a month just for the obamacare not his taxes and shit taken out his pay and yes my father makes 50K+ a year, and you know why? Because he applied himself but it is still bullshit and the whole minimum wage increase shit actually hurts the middle class because people that make more the minimum lets say 13-15$ an hour, if minimum wage increases to like 10$ for example they don't make anymore and thus there wage is worth less when they strive to make more than minimum wage. Everyone has the same opportunity to make something of themselves in life no matter what people say, if you don't make very much money you will get a good fucking bit a financial aid to go to college but more and more people are either too lazy or just plain don't want to work or try to make more than minimum. An when minimum wage increases so does everything else and yes it may be good for the immediate future but after just a small time everything will increase in price and you will be back in the boat you were before it increased, it's just a viscous cycle. And that comment about the fifth beach house wow, I can see you are one of the people who are pissed that you don't make more on your shitty job that high school kids do to make a little extra money during the summer boo hoo. And around 40-50K is the average individual wage in the U.S so it's not like making that much you are rich...
you are forgetting obama stepped into office with the nation plummeting in recession. bush destroyed the economy and took the money from the poor and gave it to the rich.
This simplistic mindset is exactly why I hate most Democrats in this country.
If you think that the right's views on social issues aren't "that bad" I dont know what to say
I was trying to prevent myself from going into a century long rant of how much I hate republican views, sorry if I came off as supportive of them.
Their entire ideology makes me foam at the mouth because they shit on the poor, promote mass ignorance, and are basically the bane of human rights
I've tried for many-a-year to find out if being a Republican is just some pseudo-obvious troll organization,
but it seems to be a legitimate factory of inbred retards who don't support anything that doesn't have conservative printed on it
[editline]11th September 2014[/editline]
They are the Apex Retards. Not even people with legitimate mental illnesses ad disabilities can out retard these things
I apologize for coming off as a supporter
Fuck you, I like Obama.
Thanks Obama.
ugh
THANKS OBAMA
ugh
THANKS OBAMA
Another day in OBAMA'S AMERICA.
I get Moore's perspective but that's a dumb thing to say. He also passed national healthcare, and will be remembered as an excellent speaker.
Say what you want about his presidency, he's got a lot of charisma when he speaks.
It's something weird that I noticed, but in this side of the world we seem to like Obama way more than you do.
Well, the reason I like Obama centres around him not being a retard or batshit crazy, when most of the other potential candidates for his job are at least one if not both.
This simplistic mindset is exactly why I hate most Democrats in this country.
And that's suppose to be the intelligent, intellectual party of the US :v:
How about "That asshole who constantly failed to do anything about privacy invading, out of control intelligence agencies, despite public outcry"?
I think every president since 1946 has been remembered for that.
Don't hate the president, hate the government. You see how old Obama's looking now? People don't get stressed enough to age like that if they're not trying to do some actual good for the country. He's probably tried to do better but even though he has a limited time running as president, the gov. just stays.
The president is part of the government, so hating it automatically includes him.
And if not, you're just passing blame. Sure, the government as a whole deserve an equal share of the trash state we're all in, but Obama was and is part of the process that got us here. Even if it was due to lack of action, he is to blame.
The thing that really bothers me about this is how it's going to affect any presidential candidate that isn't a white man in the future - the responses from people against their favor are going to be pretty ugly.
Something like .06% in 2008 voted solely on race, and .04% was against Obama because he was black.
I don't think color will matter in the future.
For liberals and progressives, I think Obama will ultimately be remembered as a traitor to the base. His most progressive policy initiative was a recycled GOP idea from the 90s. DADT was ended...eventually. We got no job creation, no true universal healthcare, no minimum wage increase, no expansion of worker's rights, and nobody from Wall Street was jailed for crashing the economy. Instead of ending the wars in the Middle East, Obama expanded them to several more countries. His administration irreparably trampled civil liberties and subjected ordinary Americans to incredibly invasive searches. He has deported record numbers of immigrants and perpetuated the drug war with as much zeal as any Republican president before him.
He failed to adequately exploit the Democrat's supermajority in Congress, and essentially every action after 2010 was straight out of a 90s GOP playbook. Progressives turned out to vote for him and were completely disregarded and treated as a captured group by his administration. Ultimately, history will remember him as a gigantic disappointment that set the stage for 8 years of a Paul Ryan/Rand Paul,[insert anti-poor conservative asshole here] presidency.
Democrats have turned into the GOP, and the GOP has turned into the Tea Party. Real progressives are going to spend the next 50 years locked in the Democrat's basement and trotted out to vote every 4 years because what are you going to do, vote for the psycho GOP?
Title just made me think about the fact that I'll only ever remember Michael Moore as the documentary guy
Something tells me that when his presidency ends, he is gonna get a huge welcome home party in Chicago. And it's gonna rock.
Title just made me think about the fact that I'll only ever remember Michael Moore as the documentary guy
Or a fat pointless wanker.
I'll go out on a limb here and say I'll remember Obama more than I'll remember Moore.

I forgot Moore was even alive.
I forgot Moore was even alive.
who is he again? that burger shaped guy?
I forgot
Fuck off, I'll remember Obama for being probably the coolest and suavest President.
Makes me wonder how people will look back on this time period in the future.
Like 100 years from now there will probably be a picture of one of those "hope" posters in a textbook, and that will be the only mention of him.

Jesus, that was a very lucid little moment there

I like to imagine what Theodore Roosevelt would do in situations when people say stuff like this.
Honestly I think he would have personally accompanied seal team 6 and beat the tar out of osama himself.
Considering Ted was pretty much a badass who knew he was a badass, I mean it's totally possible.

I always think that we need another President like Theodore Roosevelt to get things back into shape, but sadly I'm afraid that presidents like Theodore are no longer possible due to how much politics have changed since he was in office and that fact they you have be completely partisan to even run for Office and have a chance of winning.
It was 700$ a month just for the obamacare not his taxes and shit taken out his pay and yes my father makes 50K+ a year, and you know why? Because he applied himself
lmao I make 55k and I'm still so underpaid for the cost of living in my area that I'm nickel-and-dimeing grocery shopping so I can keep paying rent, bills, and auto loans/gas for work, and that includes the 25k my wife makes. Health insurance and dental costs me $200 total to cover both me and my wife. The fact you'd have to "apply yourself" to get to struggling is a huge issue, since minimum wage was established as a means of denoting what a living wage should be at minimum, aka being able to afford food, maintain some form of home, and raise a family (back in a time women were much more exclusively stay-at-home moms)
but it is still bullshit and the whole minimum wage increase shit actually hurts the middle class because people that make more the minimum lets say 13-15$ an hour, if minimum wage increases to like 10$ for example they don't make anymore and thus there wage is worth less when they strive to make more than minimum wage.
except its been proven time and time again that increasing minimum wage by any margin bolsters the local economy and everyone comes out on top because the local consumers have more money to pump money back into local stores instead of, say, relying on internal coupons to buy things from the walmart they work at. It's such an OK idea that all of Seattle has put a 3-5 year long raise to $15 minimum into effect.

"haha just pull yourself up by your bootstraps and pay to go get a doctorate you lazy asshole, nobody can be so debt riddled and financially burdened to pass on that in this day and age!"

everything else HAS been raising in price (aka buying power of a dollar declining), while minimum wage began to stagnate nearly half a century ago, and that raise of valuables leaving employee compensation behind also includes the productivity of employees
It's not Obama's fault the entire world is blowing up atm.

Bush gets having an amazing father as president.

Honestly, on a related note. He was the first (elected) President to make social media and the Internet a huge part of his campaigns. Scoff at it, but it is culturally significant in a way. Same way we look back on JFK because he was on television.

Stop posting anything about economics, please. You are not experienced enough to know how the economy works, much less, how to make it better.
You don't even have your own opinion - you are parroting your fathers.
