I wonder how many will miss the message of the book, if they manage to read through all of it.
it's not exactly subtle
Not enough love for Fahrenheir 451 in here.
I think I'm one of the few who liked Fahrenheit 451 more than 1984 and brave new world
We read Animal Farm in 10th grade. I used to read a lot of books before highschool english classes killed my interest in them
I just got out of 9th grade and finished up Animal Farm and 1984 within 10 days into the year.

what do you want a sweetie or something?
i really liked 1984, it was a good book
but now everyone is going to be screaming about it and i have to cry
The problem I have is that it's very hard to actually know whether or not any source (government or otherwise) is telling the truth. Get too far into it and you have people believing that Wikileaks is just a US Government group that's trying to serve some Government purpose (similar to how the war between Eurasia/Oceania/etc was an imaginary construct developed to give the government grounds to make changes without resistance)
Use spoiler tags in the future. Way to fucking go ruining that part for me.
I read half of the book in 8th grade, but I could never find my copy to finish it.

I haven't read the book in a long while, but IIRC its ambiguous whether the Eurasian-Oceanian war is real or not, but really it doesn't matter whether it's real or not, plot-wise and within the context of the novel.

10 days? That's silly. Must mean you barely had to analyze and discuss the book, maybe not at all. Did you just take a multiple choice test?
I should probably get around to reading this book before having to read it for school. School ruins everything doesn't it?
Well with everybody quoting the book since the latest losses of freedom I can see why it would become so popular.

Schools tend to ruin reading when deciding what books you have to read. I'm happy we got to choose what to read in my later English classes
At the same time i found out my teacher was a massive Discworld fan, which was fun :v:

No I'm just saying I read it.
Today Orwell's house is a museum and is being surveilled by cameras.
My feelings about this are doubleplus good.
I never read 1984 in high school. My English teacher, after years of assigning it, decided to change things up and have us read Slaughterhouse Five

Fuck yeah slaughterhouse-five
I feel like the only person who didn't enjoy this book. I was pretty young when I read it, so I should probably give it a second chance, but Orwell's writing style is just ridiculously dry, too much so for my tastes. Much preferred Huxley.
Why would you read this when you are young you will get nothing out of it
I'd rather assign it to 15-16 year olds

I read it in grade school and read it several times the year I found it.
I really got it. I was also relatively mature for my age, so I guess it depends.
I read the two; 1984 and BNW. I prefer BNW though. The "waterpipe" metaphor in Chapter 3(?) is just brilliant and summarises the idea perfectly.
But I still like Animal Farm best. Despite the talking animals, it's the most realistic one.

being based on real events probably helps :v:
