god forbid Logan Airport takes any chances at yet another plane being hijacked from them
[editline]25th August 2011[/editline]
in case you don't understand what i wrote, both planes that flew into the towers on 9/11 were hijacked out of boston, etc etc
Letting a black guy read a book about airplanes isn't exactly taking chances.
The whole story is a bit silly (why would you cry over that?) but seriously, how could the staff possibly find something alarming about that guy? What chain of events led to the police being called in?
I understand how he feels, he shouldn't have been treated like that. Based on what his profession is, how he writes, an what he was reading, I can totally understand this kind of thing humiliating him/making him sad.

He seems like kind of a sensitive guy, and I can empathize with that.

I mean just look at this guy:

he's like a big teddy bear
AA is the only airline I hear of doing this shit.
I don't know about you guys but

I think he looks more Middle Eastern than African American, so that'd definitely be evidence of profiling.
Still, he's get a little more worked up than he needs to I think. Yes, he deserves compensation for the supposed money he's lost, but "never been so frightened or humiliated"? C'mon now.
Oh, and he seems like a really pompous jerk judging from the bio on his site.

American Airways? No, this was United Airlines.

Kinda self-centered, yeah, but I don't blame him for being upset.
Flying commercially now is humiliating in it self. You walk into police state hell when you enter the premises. Going though security, every inch of your body needs to be scanned and/or molested. Maybe even a surprise 'we are randomly searching you again'. Then you wait an hour for a delayed plane.
That's still for domestic flights.
General Aviation flys anywhere, anytime, zero domestic security apart from an airport fence. Even flying to Canada, you call a day before and say you want to cross the border. All for about the same price as an airline ticket.

No, no it's not.
Whether it was profiling can't be determined from the race of the individual, that's somewhat racist in itself.
This is just an example of how worthlessly paranoid airliners are. A flight attendant could easily have walked over to his seat, asked him about the book, and ruled out any suspicions that he was reviewing the airplanes structure to prepare himself to terrorize the plane.
I silently wept the whole flight to DC. I've never been so frightened or humiliated. I'm shaking even writing this.
Write a song about it.
Is it now against the law to be dark and read a book about historic aircraft?
Stop taking credit from Arabs. Black men aren't racially profiled on airplanes unless it's about smuggling drugs or you're a famous rapper.
i am so glad to have your infallible insight on black americans and how they're treated, dude902.
Why are almost all negative flight stories about racism?
Why are almost all negative flight stories about racism?
because when was the last white person who fucked over an airplane?
what a nerd
i mean he couldent even deal with a simple interaction with the police without 'crying to himself'
where the fuck is he pulling the racism card from
Maybe mistook his small book on World War II-era planes for a 17,000 page aircraft operations manual. A perfectly understandable mix-up, I'm sure.

You should be allowed to read what ever you want.

Oh man, I can just picture the looks a guy would get from reading something like that.
It's a sad day in America when a brotha can't read his books about airplanes.

They all bustas 4 lyfe.
What the fuck is going on with American flight security? Isn't terrorism at an all time low or some shit? They're acting like it could hit any second.

Not like they need to even bother attacking at this point, they've already won.

You can't see a paranoid white-bread american flight attendant thinking that's a muslim guy?
And yeah this is the flight attendant's fault, not the TSA. She was the one who thought "I want my money on hand" meant "that is a bomb take me to gitmo", and told the pilot that the guy was suspicious. Maybe it's because nobody usually says no, but you shouldn't have to agree with something that trivial if you don't want to be labeled a terrorist.
You can't see a paranoid white-bread american flight attendant thinking that's a muslim guy?
He very clearly implies he was racially profiled because he was "dark" in the line I quoted.
Is it now against the law to be dark and read a book about historic aircraft?
He didn't say anything about profiling because he looks like a Muslim guy. He made a connection with being dark and reading a book about airplanes, as though that's a cause for racial profiling. Most Arabs and Muslims are not usually considered "dark." In that quote he's establishing a connection between being black and being racially profiled on planes, which is a much smaller problem than being profiled for being Arab on a plane.
With that said, he could very easily be mistaken for an Arab or Muslim based on what I see in his pictures. If he feels he was discriminated against because of that, he has every right to be upset and question why it happened.
-Be Arab.
-Have a degree in chemistry/Biochemistry.
Watch as you make headlines flying to America.

What about Delta? My dad flys that a lot.
I'd be really curious to see what a guy reading an English translation of the Qu'Ran has to go through.
