Guy gets pulled off a plane for reading a book on historic planes

I hate the TSA, a lot. I don't think they should have done it (books can't hurt people, duh), but
Gilbert writes that he “silently wept” the whole flight to Washington, DC, and that he was left ”broken hearted and speechless.”
Seriously dude? All they did was talk to him, they didn't search his anus or anything.
That's either a big fat lie or, well, what a wuss.
So much for my faith in humanity.
If this is the event that causes your loss of faith in humanity, that was a pretty resilient faith. I lost it long ago, somewhere between a women getting jail time for having a garden in her front yard, and 2 little girls in Georgia having their lemonade stand taken away because they didn't have a license to sell.

Having a whole plane full of people staring you down because they think it's your fault their flight got delayed would suck
I rather have security working to well then to little.
What about Delta? My dad flys that a lot.
Delta's cool
Well, I am the kind of person who would read airplane manuals on a public flight. And be realistic, 17,000 pages is a bit much, mebbe a binder with 500 papers in it at the most.

I read this on the flight home from New Orleans :

OHSHIT HE IS LEARNING ABOUT THE WRIGHT BROTHERS FUCKFUCKFUCK GET HIM OFF THIS PLANE!
The last time I was on a plane, I was reading Freakonomics. I happened to get to the pages where they talk about the likelyhood of a plane crash or hijacking just as we took off. I guess I should have been pulled off the flight, huh?
Surely if you were going to compromise the plane's structural integrity you wouldn't be preparing for it mid-flight. That's the kind of thing that takes months of planning. People without books are far more suspicious BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.
God bless the tsa
According to Gilbert, who is African-American, as the plane prepared for take off, “2 Mass State Policemen, 1 or 2 TSA Agents, and the bursar for the flight come down the [aisle] and motion me to get off of the plane.”
Once on the breezeway, Gilbert claims the police officers asked if he’d had “a problem” with his bag and whether he was looking at a “book of airplanes.” Gilbert said he showed them what he was reading (he says they deemed it “Snoopy Red Baron stuff” and said they were sorry for the inconvenience) and was eventually allowed back on the plane.
Gilbert writes that he “silently wept” the whole flight to Washington, DC, and that he was left ”broken hearted and speechless.”
This makes no fucking sense.
They pull the guy aside and ask him about his book and his fanny pack, and then put him back on the plane, and he cries the whole way home.

He lost several hundred dollars, everyone on the plane thought it was his fault the plane was delayed like an hour.
And I think he also wept for the future of humanity.

That's oddly specific.
That's oddly specific.
WW1 and 2 were the birth of combat aircraft, and ww2 being the birth of jet aircraft.
That's oddly specific.
No it is not, it's perfectly normal for him to be interested in a specific era of aviation.

(always say the latter)
Why can't people take a joke?
This is why Al Qaeda has won. They don't have to do shit anymore, our own TSA does all the terrorizing, intimidating, and sexual assaulting for them.

Seriously, god damn. Is it just me or is anyone else sick of hearing that stupid "Welp there goes my faith in humanity" or "Welp there goes my childhood" bullshit? It's annoying.

The former, yes. The latter not so much, it's usually a funny addition to something (usually rule 34).

Well, I don't find it funny because it's used so damn much.
The crew and police seemed to treat him in a very polite manner. It may have been somewhat disconcerting but it sounds like most of the discomfort he was experiencing was fabricated by himself because he was paranoid about what people thought of him on the flight.
I feel sorry for him but what is the alternative - we just forget about stopping terrorism because we might upset a few people by asking to see what book they were reading?
He says the policeman said to him
Policeman: "No problem here then, you can go on back on to the plane, sorry to inconvenience you...and have a nice flight".
Doesn't his reaction strike you as a little over the top:
I silently wept the whole flight to DC. I've never been so frightened or humiliated. I'm shaking even writing this.
As for the cancelling connections etc - flights are regularly several hours late, this is something that happens all the time, I don't see how it is relevant.
