It's not only for looks, it reduces risk of UTI's. It also helps prevent balanitis (inflammation of the glans) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and foreskin). It also makes cleaning your package easier.
All of this can be prevented with proper hygiene, lol.
I would rather have my foreskin cut off as an infant and not remember anything than an adult where I would have to deal with the recovery and pain.
so you'd rather hundreds of thousands of babies lose the choice in whether or not they have a rather large chunk of important skin filled with nerve endings lopped off right at birth
just because you didn't remember the pain
these threads are always pretty funny to me because i get to find out which of my fellow facepunch members have cut or uncut penises

"important" skin lol
i'm going to become a doctor and start chopping off earlobes and fingernails so children won't have to clean those areas as much i'm sure you won't mind

Explain to me how the foreskin is "important".

foreskin is there to protect your glans. that's a very delicate area, and while foreskin isn't super important, it has a purpose. we shouldn't be lopping off things that aren't that useful, just because.
if you want to be circumcised, whatever. just don't force babies to do the same without choice
[editline]13th November 2013[/editline]
is it really such a hard concept to grasp
You guys really need to get new priorities other than arguing about penises on the internet
just don't force babies to do the same without choice
Babies don't get choices. Let's leave them unnamed until they choose the name they want.
Babies don't get choices. Let's leave them unnamed until they choose the name they want.
lol
but they can change their name if they actually want to

I think Doomish is being a sperglord right now. Why would it literally be there if we have no use for it? The only reason it's practiced in the U.S. still is because hospitals make boat loads of money on it. They get $40 for each foreskin cut (As a fee. For mutilating your child's dick.) And then they resell to cosmetic companies for even more cash.
Hydra too.
Giving your child a name =/= Cutting their dickskin off

They also have surgeries to restore the foreskin lol.
So it really doesn't matter if you are circumcised or not, if you don't like it change it.

There's nothing you can do today to fully restore the foreskin to a functional state, the best you can do is stretch the skin to make it look as if you have foreskin, but that doesn't restore the nerves.
There have been some experimental studies that tried to restore the nerves using stem cells but they had no success so far.

What the fuck does it matter? It's a piece of fucking skin, if you got it great, if you don't oh well.

Why do I fell you people discussing about penus cut or uncut are ehhh
VEXATIOUS
Don't American hospitals like to do this because they can charge a bit more money afterwards?
I've been circumcised as a baby and I don't know who to blame. My parents, the doctor or both... I thought that it was a normal thing until I realized that it is barbaric thanks to internet forums like this and now I feel like a freak that's missing half of what makes you a man.
Don't American hospitals like to do this because they can charge a bit more money afterwards?
I'm sure its not the primary reason (after all, as evidenced, there is a demand for parents wanting to get circumcisions on their baby boys for dozens of reasons). But it sure is a good reason to not convince people otherwise.

Its a relatively normal thing if you were from the states. I wouldn't sweat it too much. And your from Canada so close enough. :v:

As a student nurse, I learned early on from some people that work in the birthing center that yes, hospitals will push to have children circumcised (or at least mention it as an option) because of 'health concerns', but it's actually mostly because they can charge you for it! Some places do charge extra, some don't; my hospital in particular is a Christian-run hospital so they do it for free. It's kind of rude of them to press the issue on new parents though!
[editline]e[/editline]
That's really all I have to contribute about this argument. I just think it's funny that people are so heavily invested in dick discussion.

If I got a dollar for every time someone mentioned circumcision and inevitably started a cut vs uncut debate, I could probably retire at 25.
well it's kind of the only discussion revolving around the topic
I'm circumcised, and I got my son circumcised when he was born. Honestly, the doctor is the one who convinced me to have it done. She went through a list of benefits of having it done, and a list of things that can happen if you don't. Being circumcised myself, I didn't know if it was just BS or not so I figured better safe than sorry later on.
Had I known who this woman really was at the time I would not have done it. She (in my opinion, we couldn't prove it) intentionally fucked up my wife's tube-tying surgery, and then when she got pregnant offered to adopt the baby which was really weird. She even talked about how much she want's my son as in like having him as her baby. She was just really weird and I think she fucked up a surgery so she could have our baby since she knew we couldn't afford to raise 2.
This is a rather strange topic to discuss, personally I dont really mind it, but if I wanted it done, I'm glad its already done. But it is incredibly rude ot people who want to make choices for themselves.
All I know is, if they were doing something to vaginas at birth as a regular practice, we'd never hear the end of it. Feminists would make sure of it.
Not to shit on your party, but you can't really miss anything you never experienced. When you're having a good time with your dick, the foreskin is at least half the rage.
But then again, you can probably keep up in bed longer, so you shouldn't be too sad about it. Personally, I'd like to make such a call myself, instead of having someone make it for me, but that's just principle.
Basically love your dick the way it is, it deserves to be praised.
Actually, dudes who have no foreskin scientifically last just about as long as their circumcised friends.
Explain to me how the foreskin is "important".
If you left it on, most people would probably want to keep it. This is parents forcing an unnecessary operation on infants that has really no meaningful benefits.
All of this can be prevented with proper hygiene, lol.
Everytime I read about this I find information attacking it, saying that this is because circumcision being common in developed countries with proper sanitation. Not really sure about that but it makes complete sense.
What the fuck does it matter? It's a piece of fucking skin, if you got it great, if you don't oh well.
That was painful.

Okay, that's pretty WTF worthy right there.
There was a situation similar to this, except they cauterized the child's penis closed and fucked it up so bad they just surgically removed everything and his parents tried to raise him as a girl, and he ended up having a shitload of behavioral and mental problems because he always felt mentally he was male, but his parents denied it for years. I really want to say it was a Kinsey study but I'm not sure. I read it years ago from a text my mom bought for one of her abnormal psyche courses. Hope someone knows what I'm referring to because I absolutely can't place any names to it.
