yes because they totally aren't going to notice you whispering "I'm being kidnapped" and then saying what is happening and where you are
they knew she was texting, you think calling someone is any better?
It takes less time and gets a better result to dial 911 than it does to text your boyfriend OMG... i think im being kidnapped complete with ellipses
you're not very bright are you?
#fml
going to hell for bursting out laughing.
With all our modern tech you should be able to send your phone's gps coordinates to the authorities if you are a victim in a crime.
Galaxy s5 (probably android 4.4 in general) already comes with this function, the problem is just that there's no number to send it to, and it's so much harder to separate false alarms and real situations.
Not every phone can be located by GPS from every service provider. Also 911 textng is a horrible idea.
Who the fuck takes the time to text anyone when they're being kidnapped, and not dial the 5-0 and leave the phone in your pocket or some shit.
What the fuck? Perhaps a terrified 14 year old girl not thinking straight because she's panicking about being kidnapped?
The not-thinking-straight response I would have would be to call emergency services. You're pretty much taught as soon as you leave the womb to call 911 by any means possible when abducted or assaulted. It's even on on the lock-screen of most phones and you don't even need to unlock the phone to dial it.
But instead she texted her boyfriend who very well could have been busy making a snack or on the shitter or something, or worse - think she was joking. She couldn't have made a poorer choice.
You're really going to analyze the decisions a 14 year old girl made under pressure of a potential threat like being kidnapped? You're not being fair at all. Of course her boyfriend could have thought she was joking; if I got the same text, I'd think the same too. I'm not going to deny it was a terrible decision, but to be fucking criticizing this poor girl like bravehat is is beyond retarded. It's hard to tell if a comment like his is implying that he thinks it's her fault for not having prevented the situation; maybe she could have gotten out of it if she had thought better under pressure, but she can't be blamed for panicking.
I mean, seriously,
Who the fuck takes the time to text anyone when they're being kidnapped
This kind of garbage makes it sound like it's not uncommon to be the victim of a kidnapping attempt.
You collie owners make me think this dog must have known the killers then. There's no mention so far on this case that the dog drew blood from her attacker.
They can track her phone's GPS. All she would need to say is help or something like that and then stash the phone in the nearest orifice
Orifice...? I would have just said pocket but whatever, I guess that word qualifies. :v:

There was also no mention of where the collie was at the time of the murder, and seeing as though the case is still in it's early stages of investigation, they're only sure about the basics of the situation.
If you call and just leave it on and don't answer, they'll come find you (if they know where the call came from)
I know this because when I was 7, I was playing "wrestling" with my phones. One of them "died" and had to call 911.
I doubt it would work well with cellphones, though.
hang-up calls are pretty common actually
and seeing as this took place in detroit, i don't think police is willing to use their resources to investigate a common hang-up call

This already happens in many municipalities, though it's only network-based location. Not as accurate as GPS and Wi-Fi approximation (or even all three combined), but enough for a general idea.

Can you tell me more about network-based location and wi-fi approximation?

the classic "I would have done this instead" response
sure it might be logical to you right now, but not thinking straight just means you aren't going to make logical choices

The article I read said she took the dog with her for a walk.
The dog, a collie, led joggers to her body.
That's some grim Lassie-tier shit.
I don't know what I'd do if my girlfriend sent me a text like that. I'd hope she'd call 911.
The article I read said she took the dog with her for a walk.
Did it also say that the dog was with her the entire time up until the murder?
We are both making assumptions with little to base them off. I'm sure what we're wondering will eventually solve itself once more information is released.
Yeah, really strange how she was able to text that. Under what circumstance could that happen? She died where she was walking the dog so it's not like she was thrown in a trunk of a car and she could text from there.
Did he threaten her and she went along with him at first and just whipped out her phone to text? I don't get it. Maybe she did and he killed her because of it, furious she may have alerted the police?
