Are you fucking kidding me? It's the third quarter of 2016 and people are still going on about gamergate? It was stupid then and it was stupid now and I seriously don't understand why anyone takes it seriously at this point
It has been literal years and yet invariably there is always someone who very nearly word for word repeats this shit in every single thread even tangentially related to the whole GG thing It's almost impressive, really
Somewhat unrelated question, but has anyone compiled a timeline of everything with links/sources? I feel like something like this needs it, so the logs make a little bit more sense since all this shit is heavily involved in things I don't even touch so I'm very out of the loop. (twitter, gaming articles, etc) Maybe that might make things a bit more easier for outsiders/sympathizers to understand.

I agree with you though, it would be something that would be really handy to have around. If you know any really good tools for this I may try to work on it on the side, but I don't think it's small enough for me to complete alone (especially since it would need at least some newly written short summaries on the events to make the data manageable).

If you could do me a favor, read the entire thread up to your post, it really stands out just because of how useless it is.
I love how much flack Irockz gets about being dismissive on this issue.
I love how much flack Irockz gets about being dismissive on this issue.
Generally, going into the middle of a discussion, saying 'WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL DISCUSSING THIS' and also then saying 'I THINK THIS IS DUMB' tend to, oh I don't know, piss people off and make you look like a complete and utter IDIOT. It's generally not recommended.
I love how much flack Irockz gets about being dismissive on this issue.
Jumping into a discussion and basically shouting 'lol why do you people care about this dumb stupid thing' generally tends to do that.
In a way it's surprising to me this isn't big. I remember August-September 2014 being basically 90% gamergate in my online reading.

identity politics just feel super icky. fundamental culture and meaning are impossible to argue because it always boils down to what is good vs bad determined by the social environment and by extension by evolutionary urges with little logic being applied. Even the question about whether or not influencing people's thoughts is immoral is a hard one, people influence eachother all the time and it's probably the largest factor in how our world views form next to genetics, it just feels completely natural when it's about matters which you know are right and good but also like a threat when you feel that the bad ones have more influence than you do. it's practically impossible to completely dismantle someone's world view. this just creates conflicts and factions who will never see eye to eye based on any argument because there is simply no completely common goalpost of good against which to compare the practical results.

[editline]5th September 2016[/editline]
So it proves that media started releasing bullshit articles in attempt to cover up the anti-corruption investigation or something?
Yes and no, there was no anti corruption investigation so... it proves that media started releasing bullshit articles in attempt to cover up the anti-corruption suspicions.
But that narrative turned out to be correct...
It turned out that Gamergate really is a harassment campaign made up of lonely basement-dwelling mysoginistic white males? No.
