Assuming they are telling the truth the protestors are lucky they just got disorderly conduct versus trespassing and all the other charges the police could have used.
Since people will either be too lazy or will say "They didn't make a post about it"
A large amount of protesters entered our branch at 555 La Guardia Place around 2pm today. They were very disruptive and refused to leave after being repeatedly asked, causing our staff to call 911. The police asked the branch staff to close the branch until the protesters could be removed. Only one person asked to close an account and was accommodated. To be clear: No one was arrested for closing an account; we didn't lock people in our branch. The police decided to close the branch. And we didn't ask for anyone to be arrested - that is a police decision.
Just going to quote this again because people seem to be getting the wrong idea.

tbh I can't believe nobody did it before me in this thread

A big corporation telling the truth?
I wouldn't bank on it.

I've been pissed a lot recently at Bank of America saying they have a right to make a profit.
That's just really fucking corrupt. You're a bank. You're there to hold peoples money, not fucking profit off of it!

Getting people arrested because they tried closing their accounts? Sounds like something you'd only see in a cartoon or some shit.

Banks are businesses, if they didn't make a profit they would have no reason to exist. In fact the idea of banking for profit is win-win for both the customer and business. A person can buy a house, car, or open a business that they couldn't otherwise afford to pay for, and the bank gets to charge interest and make money off it.
Banking isn't a bad thing, in fact modern economies hinge on banking.

Actually, they are there to make money - but not that way.
A bank makes money by paying interest to people let them hold their money (a savings account) by charging other people higher interest by loaning the same money to others (loans).
They give you a small interest to lure you into giving them money that they then use to loan out to others for higher interest. The difference in interest is their profit.

Pretty sure hes not talking about loans and talking about the banking fees.
Pretty sure hes not talking about loans and talking about the banking fees.
The fees are because swiping a debit or credit card isn't free for the bank. Before they were charging interchange fees to the merchants, but just recently a new law passed so they can't charge as much as they were before.
The problem is simply that someone has to pay each time you swipe a debit card, and now that merchants aren't paying, the bank has to charge you a fee for your checking account(since everyone with a checking account uses a debit card instead of actual checks anymore).
I meant in relation to fees on everything.
I meant in relation to fees on everything.
What fees?
[editline]16th October 2011[/editline]
Most fees a bank will charge has an understandable reason.
use a credit union
use a credit union
I use a credit union
use a credit union
I stopped using the credit union in my town because they had 8 teller windows but only ever one teller, so I'd have to wait 20 minutes just to do anything
ABM also wasn't capable of accepting deposits and was out of order half the time
This is incredibly stupid. If this is true, sue the bank and the police, please.

If that statement is factual, I have some questions for Citibank.
1. Where is the surveillance footage? The protesters have video evidence of their story, and it is publicly available. Where is yours?
2. Why was a woman constrained, dragged into your building, and kept inside? Is that not kidnapping, and if not, can you supply a legal precedent?
3. If you DIDN'T lock people in your branch, why are they not allowed to leave? There was no due cause for thier detainment.

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure police have access to the banks security systems. I think a police department can remotely close and lock a bank in the event of something like a robbery. That would be something that the police are guilty of, not the bank.
WOW! The true colors finally show!
I thought corporatism was bad before, it only took the Occupy Wall Street movement to really show us what's going on. I'm sitting here excited by all the events. Rioting and anarchy is a real possibility now to what was a fantasy before.

No one wants anarchy besides the anon-baby minority so no, anarchy is not possible.
"Tucson Federal Credit Union! Better-than-a-bank!"
Silly fox, if you're closing an account at citibank you're a customer not a demonstrator.
If you're closing an account at Citibank, you're not a customer anymore, but that still doesn't make you a demonstrator
It infuriates me to see the constitution raped like that. And before someone ask, Yes, I am mad, bro.
That makes sense. Disorderly conduct is a bogus law anyways, used to jail people for almost absolutely no reason.
Luckily for the protestors they will probably get a book and release from it. They would be back on the streets in a number of hours.
Being drunk in public and puking all over the place isn't disorderly conduct?
[editline]16th October 2011[/editline]
Disorderly conduct its one of those small laws no one thinks about until its used to get someone. Whether they're actually skirting the law is another thing.
If anon really wants to break the banks, make them all go to their accounts and withdraw all their savings in cash. it should fuck up a few branches. Do it on a nation wide scale = epic win.

Do you know how much that would fuck up the economy all over the planet? That is the single most stupid thing I have ever heard of.
if everyone suddenly removed their money from all the banks in the world, the world as you know it would shut down.
If anon really wants to break the banks, make them all go to their accounts and withdraw all their savings in cash. it should fuck up a few branches. Do it on a nation wide scale = epic win.
Unfortunately, "breaking the banks" and everyone taking out all of their savings would do more harm to the economy than good.
Plus, I really doubt the banks actually have enough cash to cover it all
This is outrageous! I sure as hell will never touch citibank in the future.
