Good thing they helped the cat when it was down to help it get back on its feet.
Normal gait my ass. Why give it shitty little pegs? Cats like to roam, and most places they roam consist of mud or soft grass. Those pegs are just gonna be a hindrance.

I take that back, saw the video that the new guy posted, it looks pretty damn good. They added little leg things to the pegs. He was walking pretty much perfectly.
God, I almost started crying. :smith:
I cried but it was tears of happiness, seeing how fast the cat was adapting to the implants and already started to climb stuff just broke me down to tears.
That video made my day.
Holy shit, that's really cute and all, but what amazes me to HUGE extent is that the skin grafted onto the metal.
That is fucking amazing, think about that. Animal cells grew over and combined with natural element. That metal is now physically attached, and a part of that cat. How the hell did he do that?
I mean, we even have trouble transplanting organs, but they put metal into the cat.
Made my day.
Damn you combine for taking that cats feet!
Go go gadget cat toy!
Awesome. Glad the cat is ok.
my maths teacher showed this to our class today

Yeah, that was pretty impressive. Great to see him get used to it so quickly.
Looks like he's still not walking properly, like the back legs have been extended or something

It happens all the time, people have mettle sticking out of their legs for months it's really not a big deal.
D'aaaaawwwwwww
Wouldn't the cat walk better if they made the feet more feetlike and less tall so they fit the original?
Anyway this is cute and very nice.

If I had known that the cat would just walk into my combine harvester, well, I wouldn't have spent all the resources trying to hunt it down.
It looks ridiculous walking, it better sort out it's walking technique!

In the video depottrix linked you can see they changed them so he walks a lot more normally.

FOOTAGE OF OSCAR!
I just wish they'd give him some mittens, since it looks like he's walking on his bones. :smith:
The idea of bionic prosthetics has always really excited me. The idea that, were I to lose a limb, I could one day have it replaced with an equally-effective robotic one is both cool and comforting. The ability to now introduce these pegs, which act as mounting systems for the actual prosthetics, into the skeletal system is a small but crucial step towards that end. Furthermore, we could start seeing an immediate improvement in modern-day prosthetics. The variety, flexibility, practicality, and comfort of artificial limbs should improve dramatically once the results of this test-case start being applied.
that was a truly brilliant vid so happy when i stumble apon these stories in fp

yay that's more like it
This warms my heart and makes me proud of being human. I fucking love the things we're able to do with nowdays science.
Anyone who's against these threatments shouldn't be blessed with the gift of life.

Joke? because, uh, no. It doesn't happen all the time.
Very interesting; bone implant prostheses have always been a problem because while they avoid the issue of chafing as with sockets, they are prone to breaking when put under high stress (such as, for example, walking). However, seeing this video has definitely given me more hope for that particular branch of prosthetic attachment.
This made me ask myself "if I lost my feet, would I want them regrown with stem cells or would I want cyborg feet?"
D'aawwww. That video made me so happy. The cat looks thrilled to be able to walk again.
Joke? because, uh, no. It doesn't happen all the time.
It does, it is very common when stretching bones, some spine operations require mettle to protrude out through the skin so it can be connected with a wire to give the patient more support until the bones are fused or in the correct position.
