We don't know if NATO would even mean anything if t happened. NATO looks great on paper but hasn't been used in a such a way against a superpower before. If individual countries aren't doing anything now because of the threat of nukes, what guarantee is there that the same countries that are part of NATO would do anything? The threat of nukes will still be there. They are supposed to act, but we don't know 100% if NATO would help.
Indeed, one can never be completely certain that NATO would respond given the circumstances, but to me it seems very improbable that they wouldn't. If NATO allows one of its member states to fall without coming to their aid it would render the alliance useless and thus also the containment barrier it presents to Russian influence and expansion in Europe, something the US is very keen on preserving. And even if it did escalate to war, I believe both sides would try their best to keep it conventional for as long as possible, and that nukes would hopefully not be utilized as long as the war is limited to defending the Baltic states and doesn't lead to an invasion of Western Europe or Russia, where several countries with big stockpiles have made it clear that the option of nuclear response is on the table in case of an even non-nuclear invasion. But the thing is, for now there is little to no indication that this would happen and NATO wouldn't come to their aid, and as such it would be highly illogical for Russia to make such a massive gamble.
fear mongering anyone who thinks russia will invade the baltic states is an absolute idiot, this martin hurt fella included
yeah they'll just kidnap all of their intelligence service members, one man at a time
Next they will tell me Russia is preparing to take back East Berlin.
Next they will tell me Russia is preparing to take back East Berlin.
Well they already said Western Germany illegally annexed their Eastern Germany :v: [editline]24th February 2015[/editline] I think the most important key word in this article is "could" Sure, the Russian military could invade the Baltic states but America could also just invade Russia to. A lot of shit could happen, doesn't mean it will or if it's even remotely likely.
I like to think that the Russian government is a little self-destructive as much as the next guy, but isn't this a little bit of a stretch? Russia would lose in a conflict against the NATO states, flat-out. I'm sure Putin is fine piece-mealing helpless nation-states, but fighting defined, fully functional NATO-member states would not end well, even in an absolute blitz.
Well, let's say they do. What the hell is anyone going to do about it? Not a god damn thing. No one's going to rush to the aid of anyone under invasion by Russia, and it's been proven twice in less than a decade Russia has nukes, and is the type of country that'll just say sure, invade us, and one of these is going off somewhere, so what you want to do. Risk it as a bluff or not
Nobody has the boats to mount an invasion. The US is literally the only nation with a navy even remotely large enough. Nobody fields a proper navy anymore.
You're forgetting the Royal Navy...
Russian Snap Military Drill ‘Could Turn Into Assault on Baltic Capital

Now please explain this Karimatrix...

Russian quad-riding robots could turn into T-1000s killing the entire mankind

Now please explain this Karimatrix...
Why would anyone bother explaining every sensational bullshit you find.
It's not like they're all anti-Latvian though. I don't know anyway... I just know a high majority of Estonian Russians are, by now, integrated, and there have been a bunch of anti-Putin rallies or something - gist of it being "we don't want your protection".
Hah, integrated. Perhaps the younger generation, yes. Older? A vast minority. I always get aneurysms when i read Russian Delfi comments.

Their children, on contrary, have lots of friends among locals. Also what, someone's still using delphi? I thought this language is long gone.
Here in Canada the consensus seems that Russians are typically associated with crime.
That's kinda sad. I was thinking of immigrating to Canada a couple of years later, but now it seems like your country doesn't deserve my glorious presence.

Also Canada is incredibly hard to immigrate to. If a Canadian can do the job you seek then good luck getting into Canada. (And rightfully so, I value Canadians more than non-Canadians when it comes to getting a job.)
i think they are just trying to scare away the sanctions

Maybe. Or maybe by that time everyone will fucking hate russians. But either way, i don't want to live in a country where people will think i'm a criminal just because of my nationality, so don't be afraid, cause if what you're saying is true, i'd better think of other possibilities.

Risk it as a bluff or not
Georgia and Ukraine were not NATO member states, and Russia has absolutely zero reason to deploy a nuke in the Baltics.
Your countries ambassador is really making us hate your country.
How clever of you. Anyways, thanks for the information, dude. I'm sorry for derailing the conversation.
Yeah, i can't speak for every single russian living abroad, but i have relatives in Estonia, and they don't seem to be very integrated. Their children, on contrary, have lots of friends among locals. Also what, someone's still using delphi? I thought this language is long gone.
My generation seems to be the first one to be considered "fully integrated". Trilingual (Est/Ru/Eng), educated and active in the cultural landscape, which is a pleasure to see. Even younger ones are practically brothers and sisters now, at least I like to think so. Just today I was in a waiting room and a Russian mother was teaching numbers and basic expressions in Estonian to her little daughter. It's always a nice, warm feeling to see things like this.
You're forgetting the Royal Navy...
I'm sorry but... no. Just no. The only navy on Earth worth talking about right now is the US Navy. The power disparity between the US Navy and any other navy is the largest that has ever been seen in history. Even at the height of the Royal Navy's power, the strength discrepancy with other countries was still debatable. This extrapolate's to the rest of the US military as well, but with the navy its massively multiplied.
Nah, baltic s aren't in the intermediate region, putin will turn towards the south very soon
Nukes, British, French, German-US bases and ICBMs and Ballistics from the US will stop Russia. But then we need to kill of China and it's allies, because if Russia attacks us then China will attack other countires like Vietnam, Taiwan, then NK will attack SK, so the third world war is pretty close that way.
China is so economically tied in with the US they wouldn't dare go to war with us. Vietnam is the most pro-American country in South-East Asia. Taiwan won't fuck with us and DPRK is a fucking joke. There's no world war happening any time soon. At most, there could be a European proxy war in Ukraine.
