Such a shame. I know Tigers and some of the other larger cats are almost extinct.
Meh, let me know when THIS situation arises:
except many of the animals were just sitting in front of their opened cages nervously when they were shot. and at least one of the tigers was shot with a tranquilizer, but then killed after because it got angry when it was shot. they didn't even wait a few minutes for it to kick in.
Could you outrun a tiger for 3 minutes? Seriously, use some critical thinking. Why would an angry murderous frightened several-hundred pound animal be a problem?

As inhumane as it may seem, letting predators roam free out of their natural habitat in Ohio isn't a good idea.
My aunt lives in Ohio. She said this was the only thing on the local TV stations when she called to wish me a happy birthday today. Apparently the owner released the animals himself...he went so far as to cut the wires so that the cages couldn't be closed again. Then he killed himself. It's a shame these animals are dead, but I blame the asshole who caused this more than I blame the police.
Why would the owner cut the cages when he full-well had the ability to open them himself? My dad thinks the ALF or PETA had their hands in this. I'm not too far from believing him.
In that case, they're even bigger douchbags than I thought...and that's an accomplishment. Either way, whoever released the animals was pretty much condemning them to death anyway. From the sound of it, the area was mostly farm country. Farmers can kill animals that threaten their livestock. At least, that was the case with my grandparents' farm in Marion county back in the 80s (NW of where this happened). Someone's dogs attacked and killed some of the sheep, and severely injured a bunch more. Grandpa killed the dogs to protect his sheep. The owner tried to sue my grandfather and the case was thrown out. (I don't remember much of the incident besides seeing some of the mangled sheep.) I'd imagine most farmers would immediately reach for their rifle if they saw a tiger prowling their property. They wouldn't risk waiting for an attack to happen. At least that's what I'd imagine any of the farmers I've known would do.
why did the fucking idiots kill all of them
why did the fucking idiots kill all of them
Yeah, fucking stupid monsters those people are. You're totally right, we should have hugged them back into cages. On a not insane note, again: Shit happened, lives were endangered, calls were made to prevent human loss of life(the biggest part of any police forces duty.) Nobody wants to go hunt tigers and other scared dangerous animals in their hometown, they did something you would never do, to stop the potential of serious damage and death. [editline]20th October 2011[/editline] But no, they're the idiots. Keep saying that.
I'd rather have them do this than have the animals kill a person. Seems like the best feasible option they had.
what is a tranquilizer?
Try and realize it would require at the very least more trappers than there are within a reasonable distance and for said non-existant trappers to be equipt and ready for this. Any big cat is NOT going down from a tranq, it's going to freak the fuck out and be shot to death or run away and hide. The hours it would take to call in an equipt team to do a mission with a way bigger chance of failure than success(they aren't hunting dogs you idiot) would result in people getting hurt or killed. If you weren't a typical, "omg u cant do that there amanals" idiot you would understand this. Jack fucking Hanna (wiki him, I know you've never heard of him) agree'd with what they did, no matter how terrible it was.
what is a tranquilizer?
Yeah they hit a tiger with a tranquilizer. Then that same tiger got pissed and charged at them and they had no choice but to shoot it. But yeah they should've just ran in circles for 10 minutes before it took effect.
The owner was found dead, police not saying how ... with the gates open? Clearly it could have been an accident but that just sounds suspicious to me.
I was just watching the news. They said that apparently he was high in debt, so he released the animals and then shot himself.
I was just watching the news. They said that apparently he was high in debt, so he released the animals and then shot himself.
That and got divorced.
They killed them because they didn't have the resources to transport all those animals.

You have a horde of dangerous wild animals running loose. You have to stop them as fast as possible, in any way necessary, so people don't get mauled to death.
I hope they find out that there's outside play. It seems so strange for someone to instantly snap and release it. Like someone said earlier sounds like an ALF extremist.
The guy was in extreme debt and recently divorced.
I was just at a furniture store & some extremist conservative talk show was going over the radio. The host mentioned this incident & basically said, 'It's all the government's fault, it's all tax's fault!" Well by that logic I guess that excuses any crime where the motivation is money then.

Just because they never played the bad guys in a Disney movie doesn't mean they're not dangerous.
