would have probably gone farther through and fucked more shit up.

You're right, then concrete fences and little free space after the runway ends
Here is another video (it is in dutch though) http://www.zie.nl/video/algemeen/Doden-door-mislukte-landing-vliegtuig/m1nz6d7fhwa1
Another current rumour is that reverse thrust + brakes failed, a similar crash of this aircraft type a little while ago had the same issue with reverse thrust + brakes and ran off the end of the runway as well. Having said that there's always so many rumours in the industry when this happens.

The concrete fences are intended to prevent people from getting into the airport. It's purpose isn't stopping planes.

They help slow it down, though, however small their contribution.

Net fences work just as fine, they also don't act as a brickwall when a plane is crashing into them
no, you'd have to be really drunk or high to even get the notion that your instruments were wrong, it just doesn't make any sense. the way it works is there are antennas on the runway shooting out a signal to incoming aircraft, and the aircraft intercepts the signal to determine centerline. the guys who work on the airfield are the ones who make the adjustments to make sure that their antennas are radiating to an insanely high degree of accuracy so that aircraft are always directed to come in at the the correct approach angle. if they weren't extremely accurate, at least in the U.S., the FAA shuts them down when they do an inspection.
This assumes every ILS system in the world is kept to the same standards as the ones in the US. It is entirely possible that they aren't.
Its also possible the aircraft just failed to slow down, the weather looks pretty poor so there could have been poor runway adhesion leading to reduced braking.

That's why I specified I was speaking from the U.S., but regardless, Russia isn't exactly a poor/backwards/stupid country and I'm going to take a guess that since they were kind of a superpower and have had planes for a long time now that they're just about as on top of their shit as the U.S. is. Again, I never discounted weather as a factor, I wanted to know why he overshot the runway and crashed rather than aborting his landing.

It's pretty easy to cut a hole in a chain link fence, and suddenly you have somebody dangerous running around with an airport's worth of things to destroy. I can't believe you guys are even talking about the damn concrete wall as if that was the worst part about this whole thing when it wouldn't have been much better even if it wasn't there.
How unfortunate. May they Rest In Peace.
Flying is still the safest way to travel though, right?

Not harder than bringing a ladder with you. Or climbing a tree nearby (I did that here at Pulkovo airport)
Title reminded me of this

Even though the only relating thing is "plane" and "Moscow"

And that's why you put barbed wire at the top? Sure, you can throw a blanket over barbed wire but I really don't feel like getting into a pissing contest over a stupid wall that had minimal effect when the real issue here is that a plane crashed.
Dashcam of the incident,

Even the planes in russia need dash cams, apparently.

Do dashcams come standard on cars in Russia?
Do dashcams come standard on cars in Russia?
I remember reading somewhere they are required (or heavily suggested) by insurance companies which is why there are so many.
nobody knows how to drive in russia, not even pilots
This is what I'm terrified's gonna happen every time I'm on a landing plane...
Hope people are okay.
Oh fuck, there's got to be some casualties from that
There were, it said four people were severely injured.

There really are dashcams of everything in Russia.

Looks like they landed late and could not slow down and instead of going full throttle and taking off again they tried to stop and failed horribly.
I'm surprised nobody's pointed out how the title fits since the plane was literally breaking.
