Dan Gaspar, 58, is the assistant coach of the Iranian national soccer team. "My experience is not one I've seen on TV or read in a newspaper. I live here, it's real life," said Gaspar. "It may sound strange to most people, but I've worked on four continents and Iran is one of the safest places I've worked in," he said. "When I read and hear and see things through the media and then go out to the balcony of my apartment and look into Tehran that is not what I see." 'No negative reactions' Gaspar, who spends all but six weeks of the year living in Tehran, says the typical American representation of Iran as an isolated place does not resemble his experience. "You would be surprised, it is very multicultural, far more than I had anticipated," he said. "In the apartment complex I live in you often see lots of other internationals."
But Iran is an integral part of the Axis of Evil.
b-but nukes
yay football bringing people together
There's been such good news about US-Iranian relations of late. I hope it snowballs.

Isn't Iran one of the most stable countries in the middle east?
two angry countries reconciled over football someone make a sports movie
The way soccer is something that almost every country has in common makes me want to like it more, but I just can't. It's such a simple game, if you learn to play it once, you don't forget. There have been a good few times where me and my friends have been kicking a ball around and end up playing a match against foreigners with very little or no English, but it doesn't matter, it's just universal.
Isn't Iran one of the most stable countries in the middle east?
Yeah and back before the election fraud of a few years ago, it was the only one with a democracy, well, a democracy run by an ayatollah
two angry countries reconciled over football someone make a sports movie
They basically made that movie with rugby instead, Invictus.
has he brought iran a....nuclear....football?
Yeah and back before the election fraud of a few years ago, it was the only one with a democracy, well, a democracy run by an ayatollah
Ayatollahs in Iran? What's next, Russians in Afghanistan?
It's so funny the way Americans see Iran and how Canadians see them. There's tons of Iranian immigrants here and for us Iran is just another country from the middle east, yet in the US they compare them to freaking North Korea.
Isn't Iran one of the most stable countries in the middle east?
It's also technically a theocracy.

I mean we still have some coming over at least for education purposes, last year at school there was a few campus apartments that had some pretty cool Iranian immigrants living there. Went on a semi-awkward impromptu date with one of them as well.
It's also technically a theocracy.
Isn't the British head of state the leader of the national church? Making the UK to an extent a theocratic government?
Because celebration riots bring us all closer together.

The Iranian population in America compared to Canada is a horrible comparison. America has x3 the people who claim Iranian decent than in Canada. They don't call Los Angeles "Little Persia" and "Tehrangeles" for the fun of it. Over in America it also also viewed as just another country albeit one with a pretty oppressive government but there are clearly worse ones there. Some random redneck politicians clearly don't represent the general opinion of another country.
soccer - you soc the ball to and fro (with feet) football - you throw the ball to your pals and try to get a touchdown duh
I thought this was the reason American football was joked about being renamed to "handegg" instead.
i can't wait until we come together for a game and then begin to riot and murder each other as per standard soccer custom
Why is Facepunch terrified of football fans? Seriously, the vast majority of matches there's no trouble at all. Demonizing a sport because you're not good at it lol
