GTA V PC Completely Bans Mods, Even Single Player Ones. [Rumors]
In a fucked up way, i kinda makes sense from their perspective: why have features free in mods when you can just hold them off until the next game version and make them pay. (this only really has to do with improvement mods, not weird shit).
mods should never be banned from single player imo
Even if GTA6 had the same features as the ones we'll get modded into GTA5, I'd still buy it and so would everyone else. I can't imagine anyone actually doing that.
I played IV a couple years ago and it didn't have any built-in trainers?
If you call certain numbers on your phone, it'll spawn cars and things.

That's not a trainer at all though, those are just cheat codes. And even then, GTAIV had way less cheat codes than its predecessors.

Money makes the world turn.
I've been using a trainer and a bunch of scripts in SP, and before I go online I restart the game and move Scripthook out of the main folder, haven't been banned so far. People saying they have been banned for using SP mods must have been either using them in Online or they didn't reload the game and remove Scripthook before going Online.
I've been playing singleplayer with the ScriptHook and Native trainer active. I wonder if I'll get a nasty surprise if I disable them and try to play multiplayer for the first time.
Do you think there is a chance they would reverse their decisions and allow modding and such with a big enough public outcry?
LCPDFR was fun and I want LSPDFR to retain that enjoyment and I could imagine playing online with it in a private lobby would be barrels and hours of fun, but if their decision is to revoke the ability to extend the longevity of the game then fuck them.
GTA:Online as it's stands will get stale eventually and they need to pump out either more heists or more content (missions, etc.) that isn't just community made races or whatever.
They're trying to avoid getting in any more hot water (or is that hot coffee?) with the press. It's been known for some time now that Rockstar really isn't a big fan of modding... and they're certainly not a fan of all the negative press they get from people modding their game with sexual content.
It's a shit way to go about it, and it's a damn shame they're not even interested in communicating with the modding community to find SOME sort of workaround... but am I surprised? No, not really. I find it amazing that they're patching all of these modding methods post-release instead of just doing it during development. It's as if they want to be all showy and stick their finger up at the modders in the public spotlight for some reason.
Dick move.
the goal here is not to get one of these which means you are banned from online entirely

unless you really just couldn't give any less of a fuck
Now I'm afraid to continue using the FOV mod I have
I kinda need it or I get motion sick.
I still use the FOV mod and haven't been banned. Dunno about others though.
Some gamer news blog thing says some guys left steam reviews about them modding the game saying they're banned, quotes a section of the EULA, and presto, Rockstar is getting out the fuckhammer and making sure nobody will ever have fun again.
Or we get enough people to be outraged to get a legitimate response from RockStar.
I don't know what to think. On the other hand it sort of sucks for modders and the community in general, but on the other hand I don't mod GTA anymore and trainers REALLY SUCKED in GTAIV multiplayer, making it essentially unplayable normally and Rockstar did fuck all to fix it.
I'm sort of more for this than against. I don't use mods and I really really don't want trainers in my MP.
What are you talking about? I had the best fun in IV fucking around with friends with the trainer.
I don't know why people thought GTA V on PC would be some haven for modding. Rockstar clearly doesn't want people doing it and it seems like people assumed it would be easier somehow.
I doubt any of us had ideations of Fallout levels of easy to mod. I do know that, regardless of what R* want, I am going to buy it on PC and I am going to mod the everloving piss out of it. I'm waiting on the OpenIV team to crack the file encryption fully, once they've done that and we have write access to the game's model archives, handling scripts and such, I'm ordering disc copies off Newegg and going to town.
And no, a ban from GTA:O doesn't scare me. It doesn't even phase me. I can't put into words my disdain for that shit MMO-like. I spent an hour in it on PS3 and hated it. No thanks.
GTA:Online as it's stands will get stale eventually
It's already well past it's point of staleness.
Series A Funding was just a pack of glorified missions. It didn't count as a heist at all. We need more real heists.
i have to use a fov mod otherwise i get sick, what a piss take
I get this (just headaches) and third person 100% of the time works ok
You will not get banned for SP Mods, I even contacted R* about it, this is what they said:

So... They don't mind if you mod SP, aslong as you don't go online with em'
What are you talking about? I had the best fun in IV fucking around with friends with the trainer.
Any game I joined was filled with godmode users blowing everything up and killing everyone. It was like sweet couple of weeks of decent online experience with fair gameplay followed by complete anarchy and chaos and then online being completely dead. At least in Europe.
I'm sure it's more fun with friends, but with adult friends who have jobs and are all tired and busy and shit all the time it's impossible to have people to play with always available. We're all free to play games at the same time maybe once a week. So I would like the MP to remain at least fair. I don't mind assholes, I just want the assholes to not have the ability to do whatever they want and get away with it.
I was considering getting this game, but if this stuff winds up being true I'm probably going to give it a pass.
I really really don't even see that many hackers in online mode, for me it's far less an issue than people make it out to be, and I'd rather see no hackers ever, if they locked the game down to begin with that would have been better that way for online. But I only play online and don't use mods anyways, so I can't speak for anyone when it comes to locking away mods.
but banning users for singleplayer mods is pretty far off the deep end of crazy bullshit. If the game can be modded, it will be modded, and mods will possibly immortalize the game like it did for San Andreas and Doom 1/2. If it gets modded, you HAVE to let them do it, because the modding community won't stop modding.
This sounds far too crazy to be true though, I'm not sure if I 100% trust the source.
I think they should be strict on what mods can and can't be used in online mode. FoV? No problem. People get fucking motion sickness without a proper FoV and to ban people for modifying a simple feature into the game that should fucking be there anyway just so they can play without vomiting is ridiculous. But spawners and unlockers? No, ban that shit. Rather than have some stupid zero tolerance policy that just outright fucks everyone
Of course singleplayer should be fair game for any mod. Fuck you, Rockstar, for telling me what I can and can't do in a single player game. Fuck you
the FOV at max is actually pretty good, and I use 110 normally
however the fov is real bad if you're driving, unless you're using 3 screens (and very little people want to buy that kind of hardware just for a few games) you're pretty much screwed
fov modding should be 100% supported through and through.
FOV modding should not be supported, but they should allow you to tune the FOV in-game to reasonable levels.

And then they turn around and clusterfuck the main means of SP modding. GG R*.
And then they turn around and clusterfuck the main means of SP modding. GG R*.
Because it was also the main means of MP modding.
And then they turn around and clusterfuck the main means of SP modding. GG R*.
Being banned from online bc of SP modding was a rumour and wasn't confirmed. Now it's just online, so who cares don't use trainers online and you'll be good.
FOV modding should not be supported, but they should allow you to tune the FOV in-game to reasonable levels.
Yeah because fuck people who have motion sickness problems right? Their money isn't good enough. Bunch of inferior casuals can't even game with tunnel vision. Get real.
I hope that the people using trainers in online get banned, but no singleplayer. Using a trainer in singleplayer is modding, we're not hurting anyone. Using a training in Online is just hacking.
Well, there goes any reason for me to buy it.
Well, it seems that it's inevitable to move on to FiveM eventually when Rockstar goes full nazi and forbids all fun.

Way to willfully ignore over half the post.
And there are still people who will defend R* even after shit like his.
Because Rockstar makes good games.
Few people will defend this attitude, but many will defend the company in its whole.
I was considering getting this game, but if this stuff winds up being true I'm probably going to give it a pass.
Pretty much this - Unless someone gives me the game as a gift or it goes on sale, I simply won't be inclined to play it for long enough to warrant the price tag. I booted up STALKER: SoC last night, after installing my favorite mod and altering the configuration files to my liking, and was instantly immersed because I was playing a game I had tailored to myself. This applies to most of the single-player games in my library - if they are mod-able, I still play them. If not, it's usually on a whim and only to revisit the highlights.
Though I did use trainers and 'fun' mods in GTA IV, the main ones I enjoyed were focused on making the game handle in a way that seemed more realistic and by my definition, satisfying to master. In the version of the game I eventually put many hours into, weapons could hit harder at longer ranges and Niko with body armor died about as quickly and easily as a SWAT team member. Vehicles crumpled easily and completing a mission often had little to no margin of error or more often, ended up being a long series of catastrophic errors in a desperate attempt to escape and survive as one or two crashes at high speeds would cripple the car. The same went doubly for chase missions, where what used to be a chaotic romp through the city became a frantic weave in desperate search for one of the few chances one might get at performing a well-placed pit maneuver.
In short, it was masochistic. Like the LURK mod for STALKER, it was a brutal version of the original game with an emphasis on reminding the player of their character's equality or even inferiority to their enemies.
I like games I have to conquer, and I was looking forwards to the opportunity of replicating much of what I did with its predecessor. A shame, really.
I can only hope that there is enough backlash that they eventually partially or fully revoke this policy - only then will they have my business at full price.

Sorry but I'm not about to condemn an entire company and all of their games just because they're over-controlling when it comes to mods for this particular game.
