• News is bad for you – and giving up reading it will make you happier

There really is no escaping the news. Everything I read on here, I end up hearing it from someone else.
That is because nobody is reporting good news to remind everyone how great and wonderful our world can be.
That is because nobody is reporting good news to remind everyone how great and wonderful our world can be.
We should all move to North Korea.
But my cognitive dissonance!
Doesn't matter to me cause I don't know how to read.
What a load of bollocks. At the very least, voters should know A: what the fuck is going on in their country and B: what the fuck their country is doing around the world. Either that, or hand over to a dictatorship if they cannot be bothered taking even the most remote interest in the running of the country in which they live and (most) pay taxes to.
Since when is this news?
I dont know. Reading the rare good news articles makes me happy. That cant be bad for you.
Well, I've given up all hope of being happier. (there was something here disparaging the Guardian but then I remembered it was the Daily Mail who liked Hitler; embarrassing to say the least)
Just skimmed through, seems not to be a serious article. "News is toxic to your body" "News inhibits thinking" "News kills creativity"
Would removing Sensational Headlines up the overall posting quality on Facepunch then?
Sensationalist headlines is a containment board, one forum section to contain the worst of the worst from spilling out.
How about watching it? There are a couple of cute news readers.
How about watching it? There are a couple of cute news readers.
still the same thing
To an information addiction kind of degree I'd agree but just checking the news each day for a few mins and reading the articles that interest you personally can't be all that problematic.
The current state of affairs is pretty fucking depressing, so I guess this theory is pretty sou- HEY WAIT A MINUTE, YOU JUST WANT PEOPLE TO STOP READING THE NEWS BECAUSE IT INFORMS THE PEOPLE, YOU WANT US TO REMAIN IGNORANT OF WORLD EVENTS AND ALL THE SHADY SHIT YOU TRY TO PULL SO YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WITHOUT FEAR OF REPERCUSSION! NICE TRY, JIDF!
So ignorance really is bliss?
Not really, it's just that the free media in an economic system based on beating competition is sensationalist tripe. News companies thrive on sucking people in with terrible news that purposely terrifies people. I'd go as far as to blame the media for playing a major role in all the terrorism fear mongering that caused the Iraq and Afghan wars. It truly is bad for you.
reading biased news is bad. reading unbiased news is fantastic. sadly we don't get a lot of the latter here on facepunch now do we
Reading news can be good for you if you understand that it's bias.
Living in denial makes you happier because you won't think of all the troubles in the world.
Bah, and my parents always wonders why I don't read newspapers. I knew it wasn't just me.
inb4 deletion of sensationalist headlines because FP mods want the forum to be a better place. :v:
I've figured this out years ago. Hence why I don't watch the news on tv any more.

Not reading the article. I've already taken the first step to the road to recovery.
How the arse does events from around the world hinder creative thought... That's just ridiculous, and it's fairly basic information that most news is depressing therefore you're more likely to be depressed. But I'd rather be aware that the world can be a cruel and harsh place than live in a fantasy land. Or do I? :/
