shh.. if a police man heard you say that he'd tase you and beat you to death
lol no he wouldn't
Since when is carrying a sword illegal in the US? I could get England or another extremely anti-weapon country, but the United States? The country where you can buy sniper rifles at Wal-Mart and flamethrowers don't even need a license?
Hell, just switch from swallowing swords to swallowing shotguns. As long as it's registered, that's fully legal in NYC.
Wal-Mart doesn't sell sniper rifles and flame-throwers are technically illegal to own (certainly illegal to purchase for reasons other than collecting, but as far as preventing you making them yourself it's too hard to regulate).
There ARE out-doors shops where you can buy .50 rifles though, and fairly cheap too ($3,000).
Not to mention NYC has some of the strictest gun laws in the country
is this what passes for wit these days?
For a New Yorker it's not bad. Nothing against New Yorkers but with all the smog and what-not they don't get alot of oxygen to the brain, you see.

no seriously that sounds interesting
They put either plastic or pieces of coral under your skin so that bone can grow into it and make a permanent protrusion, ie The Lizard Man's horns.

Just because it was mean and seriously shouldn't have been said in that context doesn't mean it wasn't witty
Just because it was mean and seriously shouldn't have been said in that context doesn't mean it wasn't witty
Wasn't very clever or witty sounding, in my opinion.
"you were holding a sword in public and I have every right to shoot you."
Is it just me or does that sound like a very stereotypical American?
Since when is carrying a sword illegal in the US? I could get England or another extremely anti-weapon country, but the United States? The country where you can buy sniper rifles at Wal-Mart and flamethrowers don't even need a license?

Cities always have really asinine laws regarding blades. And yeah, that doesn't make any goddamn sense, banning any knife or blade longer than three inches but being perfectly okay with somebody walking around with a rifle. Or, rather, the concept (banning concealable shit normally only useful for shanking somebody) is sound, but the statutes are so half-assed about the wording as to make friggin' dummy swords illegal.
just because you don't like something doesn't mean you can sue for it, i dont see anything illegal there and the officer was well within his rights to say what he said

A person is guilty of menacing in the third degree when, by physical menace, he or she intentionally places or attempts to place another person in fear of death, imminent serious physical injury or physical injury.
Threatening to shoot someone would qualify (it's more about presence how they charge it, and I doubt they'd pull "with a weapon" on a cop, but I suppose they could), the statute has no police officer exceptions, and that's a misdemeanor (i.e. illegal) in New York. And, hilariously, I can't find any mention of swords in their statutes for possession, let alone facsimile swords, so I don't think he had grounds to say it anyway in any other statute. Disorderly conduct is a general "we want to lock you up but you're technically not doing anything illegal" thing, so they pretty much proved they had no grounds for the threat by calling him on that rather than a "real" charge.
Dude has grounds to sue.
It's a good thing this guy's street art doesn't involve tossing a salad, cause if you get busted for that it could lead to problems later.
Some american cops really seem to like to shoot people.
NYC is just sad sometimes.
offensive or not, that's still very fucking witty
He should have taken the opportunity to spit on the cop and say "I don't"
Break-dancers were locked up?

I guess you, me, and Rago can't go to New York
He should have taken the opportunity to spit on the cop and say "I don't"
Then he'd have been charged with assault

or attempted murder
What the fuck is wrong with the police nowadays?
Except the police aren't all bad. The reason people think the police are generally assholes is because you only hear about police when they do stupid shit. You never see news articles about police officers doing their job right unless the officer is getting a super important reward of some sort.
Some american cops really seem to like to shoot people.
Because cops don't act like that outside of America.
What the fuck is wrong with the police nowadays?
I do agree. A colleague was arrested when he (successfully) tried to climb up the ropes of the Brooklyn Bridge for a foto. Just about 5 minutes after, the Bridge Patrol East arrested him.
:v:
"What're you in for?"
"Oh I raped a woman, you?"
"Breakdancing."
This sounds like something out of GTAIV.
I even read the officer's statements in the GTAIV cop-voice.
I'd argue that there is a greater propensity for batshit police officers in the United States, for a variety of reasons. (this is comparable to western states only - relative to a few asian states, police in the United States are like Barney the dinosaur compared to Bin Laden)
I think I've seen this guy performing in Fremantle a few years back.
I love street performers, there was a fire eater in town the other day, I dumped all of my change in my wallet into his bowl.
Yes, they certainly don't act like that here, ever, so I have the right to judge.
offensive or not, that's still very fucking witty
Very witty? He made the connection between swallowing swords and swallowing cum. That's the most basic shit ever. The cop was just a moronic asshole and it's sad that you think it takes some special form of intelligence to come up with that.
If he had no identification I could see why there would be problems.
A (potentially illegal) alien wielding weapons?
I can see the rationale, although the situation is rather pathetic.

Thanks to you guys and your fear of terrorists the police here now have the right to detain me for not having identification on me. Having no identification on you should NOT be a reason to detain anyone.

You mean like stopping you and searching you? I'm not sure how it works in the Netherlands, but in the US, the police can't stop you and demand that you show ID (excluding Arizona) because that is not probable cause. Then again, I may be taking what you said out of context.
"Don't tell these guys that you swallow"
What did that make me think of
and then sue the NYPD
why is a joke grounds to sue the nypd?
Break-dancers were locked up?

New York has street performers absolutely everywhere, but lots of paranoid people and assholes to follow.
why is a joke grounds to sue the nypd?
It's sexual harassment
