so how many posters in this thread actually have kids because I'm seeing a lot of calls for capital punishment over something small
Capital punishment is not required. Nor is jail time. Counseling, maybe. Mostly for grief and to come to terms with the fact that what he did was a mistake.
The former two suggestions are displays of extremism. Parents mess up. I won't argue that.
I was spanked on the buttocks with an open palm by my mother (and later father once I got older) when I fucked up.
imagine if your dad recorded him spanking you while calling you retarded for not listening to him and then showed the footage to all your bullies at school plus putting it on the internet
WHAT AN AMAZING PARENTING TECHNIQUE
She killed herself because she was punished. You say that the punishment was fair, which means that you think whatever she did was worthy of this punishment.
You are actually saying that her actions alone caused this.
I hadn't seen the other post with her comment about how she was treated at school when I posted this. If you'll notice, I shifted my tone afterward to mention heavily how it's very possible she never confided in her father about her situation and how it's very possible he had no idea how miserable she was.
Please don't have children before you learn to parent kids.
Have fun when your kids end up dead on the street because you didn't teach them discipline and they get in to drugs and gangs.
This is real life, like goddamn.

It doesn't matter if he didn't know how miserable she was. It literally does not even matter. You should not, under any circumstances as a parent, attempt to put your child through trauma, no matter how small or large.
To me, public shaming is more of this weird ego trip of the parents to show everyone and brag about "How good of a parent they are" over actually caring and properly disciplining the kid.
I know plenty of parents that would freak out to say: their kid drinking or smoking at 16, but not because it stems from an actual care of what their kid is doing, but how that affects the "image" of the parents themselves.

There's a problem with your argument. My dad had no clue how to operate a camcorder when I was growing up. Not even joking.

Discipline is not abuse.

Yeeaahhh I'd like you to explain how "something small" can lead to a person commiting suicide.
Because no matter how this is twisted or turned it reeks of mind-numbingly horrible parenting.

I see you do share some of his attributes, and I mean that literally.

Can confirm this to be pretty damn accurate really.

That doesn't change the fact that his actions lead to her suicide and that they could have been avoided had he not been abusive.

doesn't justify his actions at all
he did something you really never should do to your kids, ever
There were only two people directly involved in this. The girl and the father. You can feel bad for the father, and that's okay. He lost a child, and no one ever wants that. But you're an idiot if you think it wasn't his fault that it went this far.
I think you don't understand. I don't give a fuck about that piece of shit father. Shaming your kids is horrible and I don't approve of that one bit. But the way you phrased your shit is putting words into his mouth.

top notch trolling and you guys are all falling for it

I know how I'm going to parent my kids if I ever have any
I'll steal their power cords whenever they get in trouble
Then watch with glee as their precious gadgets slowly die and they beg for the power cords back.

Hair grows back. Posting the video online was wrong, but other than that everything that was happening would've blown over in a month or two.
Like I said, this isn't about anything like that. It's about a tragedy, not calling for someone's head.

You know nothing about me or my father but nice attempt at a personal jab there bucko.

really? I'm supposed to believe every 13 year old kid out there is up smoking weed and drinking beer and whatever?
sure, some poor, neglected minority may be suffering from it, but it surely can't be common enough to make the leap from "messed up" -> "did drugs". At 13 they're practically kids still. Even at 15 I wouldn't believe anyone but the worst kids would be doing drugs

Or they borrow a power cord from friends. Or buy one. Or hide one of the power cords.

You know a good parent doesn't enjoy punishing their children.

Have fun when your kid kills themselves because they had a sociopath for a parent.

I'll commend you on not becoming abusive and rude in your posts but I think you need to consider the fact that there's really no coming back from whats been said. Now might be a good time to take a break before things go any more off the rails.
top notch trolling and you guys are all falling for it
I'm not trolling. My mother was the one that had to record all the family events because my dad couldn't figure out the camcorder.
In his defense it was one of those old, huge, super confusing camcorders that recorded directly onto a full size VHS.

Maybe not drugs, but I'm quite sure majority of 13 year olds drink at least beer.

There are a lot of circumstances, I think. It has to do with location, upbringing, family income, family in general. There are a lot of factors to consider. The age where children start experimenting with drug abuse is probably not universal.

Turn off the breakers for their room(s)
"Whoops kids looks like I forgot to pay the electric bill for your room(s) this month, my bad. Hey maybe if you help me out with the bill with some of your allowance I can get them to turn it back on."
