The reason why I was an asshole was because you're defending some dude's parenting after said parenting literally caused a kid to kill herself. Ofcourse I'm going to treat you like a fuckboi.
I've repeatedly argued that this guy was a douchebag. It's pretty unfair to generalize my stance as supportive of this shitty father.
That's like saying by supporting gun use, I support bad gun use, or because I support x, I support all instances of x.

"Hey, gun rights activists, I'm calling you all fucks because you're supporting a tool that literally killed thousands of Jews! You're literally a bunch of Nazis!"
I'm a bit late on this, but I cannot stress this post enough.
I've worked with elementary/middle school kids for 4+ years and I cannot tell you how many times I've sat down to talk to a kid who is absolutely miserable during the day, only for them to tell me that their parents took away their game or their phone or their tablet because they had bad grades in a glass, rather than actually get help for them.
Kids this age don't exactly know how to ask for help. They see their grades as a reflection of their competence. If they have bad grades, they assume that they're stupid and they'll very readily accept this conclusion. They won't seek out a tutor unless their parents set one up for them. But VERY OFTEN, the parent doesn't have time for that. They don't have time to get their kid academic help, nor do they have time to sit down with their kid and try and help them that way.
The quick go-to thing to do has become to take away something that makes the child happy. And that alone is a solution I don't agree with. Of course, this is something specifically geared towards bad grades. Taking away things for other disciplinary reasons like getting into trouble or fights or what-have-you may be an acceptable thing to do.
But I am so against having things taken away for bad grades because it literally solves absolutely nothing. In none of the cases I've seen personally has a child's grades improved because they no longer have access to their Xbox.
Going after anyone for bad grades is a stupid thing to do.

Even adults have issues with grades and are emotionally invested in doing well so when they see they're not they either make excuses or believe they're incompetent. Its a human thing.
When I first read the title of this thread, it reminded me of another article that was going around about a young girls mother shaving all her hair off as well. Picture in-tow; I didn't agree with that either. I also kept thinking about all the k-dramas I watch about how when the female character did something wrong, the father would threaten to shave all her hair off.

That's true. Only difference is, adults are generally pretty capable of seeking help in the form of tutors, online tutorials, etc. etc. Children don't really realize that they have those options available or are not old enough to understand those options.
The amount of ad-hominem against other users in this thread is outstanding honestly.
Like do you guys think it's normal to flat out call someone a piece of shit/say they have shitty parents just because they made a internet forum post that you personally disagree with?

I am honestly constantly dumbfounded by the amount of passion and hate that is put into SH arguments/debates.

Welcome to Facepunch
this happened to me once as a child, except it wasn't put on youtube it was on the newspaper as a comic strip. Rather distressing to see it, my father thought it was funny but i started crying angrily when i saw it. I was like 7 at the time.
A comic strip? Did your dad draw the comic strip as a satire of you or something like that?
