Why 10?
Because.
Why 10?
Because if my mag has ten then I'm gonna lose my mind, it can't have more than 9. I have to use that one bullet right now.
Why 10?
Maybe a proxy-ban? Most magazines are 20 or 30 rounds, 10 is a weird number and only a few pistols and hunting rifles carry 10 or less.
"SB 567 by Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara: changes the definition of certain kinds of shotguns to make them assault weapons"
Ok please show me an "assault" shotgun.
One thing that confuses me about the magazine limit laws is that it goes completely against the rulings of NFA 34, where basically it was stated that any firearm which couldn't be(or hasn't been) used in military service(stupid I know), should be controlled in some matter. The problem with mag-caps is that for the most part the standard NATO magazine ranges from anywhere from 20 to 30 rounds. Also have a military service member correct me if I'm wrong, but you are also allowed to have magazines which are capable of holding 40+ rounds if needs be.
So why make restrictions against the number of rounds carried in a magazine?
Might aswell not get a gun ffs.

Getting a gun is still relatively easy and painless. Get your permit to purchase, sign a few papers, have the dealer make a phone call, pay for it... and you're good to go.
Finding ammo is another issue. Federal munitions is 2 years behind production if they had stopped taking orders in February.
Might aswell not get a gun ffs.
Congratulations, you discovered their long term goals!
I've lived in California all my life, and I live in the East County of San Diego (super conservative) and know lots of gun nuts (like seriously gun nuts). None of them ever complain about California gun laws. Then again they could be used to it.
Banning magazines for rifles, what are you supposed to do then? If your using a rifle that is bolt action and uses a magazine its easy to get around since you just have to load one bullet and fire. But if your using any other kind of rifle you basically can not even use it.

it's like a tommy gun merged with the inconspicuous violin case it was being carried in
neat

Anecdotal. I currently live on the liberal, Western side of San Diego and people still complain about gun laws.

This topic is about America, where finding a gun is easier than finding a doctor.

Something like that would already be covered right? Don't they consider these class 3 weapons/destructive weapons?
So is this for real, or can it still be appealed or whatever. Because fuck there goes my summer project of building my AR.
Can't imagine living in California. Shit car laws, shit gun laws, bleh.
Can't imagine living in California. Shit car laws, shit gun laws, bleh.
It's funny that even with the shit car laws California is still an incredibly dangerous place to drive in, this gun legislation will be the same story.

Aside from guns, high taxes and car(?) laws, California is a fucking rad place to live in. Just don't come here expecting to be neighbors with movie stars. The nightlife is also uniquely amazing.

Most of these laws impact long guns which aren't used very much in crimes. The ones that don't, like 10 year ban from owning a firearm, background checks, and mandatory firearm safety probably won't cause more gun crime
>SB293, which requires that guns sold in the state be equipped with technology, such as biometric readers, that would prevent anyone but the registered owner from firing them
this shit is so stupid it's laughable.
Let's make up random laws for technology that doesn't even exist!
comming up on mythbusters,
we get arrested and thrown into jail for testing firearms
and the build team try to prove the difference between a personal defense weapon and an assault riffle

It does truly become funny when someone tries to lump California into a giant lump in a blanket statement though. It's probably one of the most diverse places on earth. There are few places on earth where you can go Skiing, surfing, and riding around in a dune buggy in a desert all in one afternoon. Just don't mention the projects to anyone though. I'd rather take a trip to Afghanistan than to there. Also California is no stranger to bad gun laws assumming you can find a gun anywhere anymore, or even ammo for that matter. Almost all the ammo was bought up when the rednecks thought Obama was going to take their guns away.
the republicans are right for once, the shootings are not caused by guns, they're caused by the almost criminaly negligent way we deal with mentally illnesses in this country, doctors just proscribe pills and walk away.

More details
The state Senate also approved SB293 by state Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, which would require all newly made or imported handguns in California be "smart guns," digitally personalized so only their owners can fire them. This would take effect 18 months after the state Attorney General makes a finding that such firearms are available for retail sale and meet performance criteria specified in the bill.
I'll be impressed if this actually works.

But saying that guns have absolutely nothing to do with mass shootings is crazy. The GOP isn't right on guns at all. Their position is to have everyone armed around the clock.

Cool so they just make up shit as they go. Is there no logic?!

I'm not agreeing to that, one has to have enough trust in society and their police force, but the moderate republicans that are calling for mental health awareness are absolutely correct in that that is what we should take away from these shootings. don't blame the tools, blame the craftsman who weilds them.
[editline]30th May 2013[/editline]
I'm not even sure those democrats have even seen a gun much less fired one if they think biometrics are an easy instalation to guns or that all firearms are compatable witht such technology, stop watching sky fall damnit!
most of the gun violence is caused by the gangs. the gangs use guns to kill each other over drugs.
legalize the fucking drugs.

It's pathetic cause I can bet they seriously did watch Skyfall and thought "oh gee what a great idea!!" and then proposed it. That is how hugely misinformed, ignorant, and stupid these people are. These politicians.
I kind of dislike the "guns don't kill people, people kill people!" argument used for lax gun regulation. Maybe you shouldn't make it so easy for those people to use those guns to kill people.
Yes, a perfectly ordinary and reasonable person is going to use a gun lawfully. But you guys seriously need to step up your regulation.
Not the way that nearly all of these laws are doing it. They're batshit insane.
Can't imagine living in California. Shit car laws, shit gun laws, bleh.
California is one of the most popular places in the world, no place like that isn't without it's flaws (Like New York City for instance)
But saying that guns have absolutely nothing to do with mass shootings is crazy. The GOP isn't right on guns at all. Their position is to have everyone armed around the clock.
But when was the last mass shooting in California?
These bills would do nothing but make legal ownership of the vast majority of firearms unattainable. And they recently passed a bill that would exempt them from these proposed laws.
