California Senate Approves Very Harsh Gun Legislation
Aside from guns, high taxes and car(?) laws, California is a fucking rad place to live in. Just don't come here expecting to be neighbors with movie stars. The nightlife is also uniquely amazing.
If you have a million dollars to buy a small house that is.
[editline]29th May 2013[/editline]
I mean, the housing prices from what I've seen are ridiculous. Half a million in California can't get you half of what it could here.
Well that is unjustified.
If this law gets pasts, it won't be so bad for myself and I think there will be a boom with shooting ranges in Nevada, which is fine by me.
I'm saying this where people have lately encouraged me to visit Nevada to blow some shit up which sounds like fun.
PS, I do not think such measures of the law are necessary, the person who shot three people a few weeks ago right outside where I live would probably have the same gun after this laws passes.

same thing with New York and all the other popular places to live. Coastal states or Hawaii have lots of problems that most states don't have, it's just how things will always be
Something like that would already be covered right? Don't they consider these class 3 weapons/destructive weapons?
This thing is covered by regular legislation.
most of the gun violence is caused by the gangs. the gangs use guns to kill each other over drugs.
legalize the fucking drugs.
You've never encountered a single gang member in your life have you? Much of the gang violence around here is no longer bloods vs crips. Much of it is now extremely racially motivated with blacks and Mexicans killing each other. Legalizing won't fix everything. That argument is something who's never even seen a ghetto would use.

Everybody I've talked to who has been to california says the exact same thing, it's a lovely place, perfect weather, there's just way way too many people.

Perhaps that's because they go on all of the tourists routes. There are plenty of areas that could do with more people. Some places are outright ghost towns. Not everywhere is Downtown LA.

Well California is huge, most of it is comparatively empty
but people like it because of it's Mediterranean climate which means the seasons are so similar, Winter in Southern California is Summer in most other places of the world. Allot of people who are used to cold places who move to California don't ever need to change their dress for the seasons
Granted you will never experience snow in the most popular areas of Southern California (most of CA population is there), so snow is not part of the childhoods of Californians, we only see snow in movies :v:
But when was the last mass shooting in California?
I'm assuming he is talking about mass shootings, unless he is implying every shooting ever is done by mentally ill people.
These bills would do nothing but make legal ownership of the vast majority of firearms unattainable.
I don't like most of these laws because they seem to be proposed by people who don't really understand how firearms work. But I don't like the "its all mental health, don't regulate guns" red herring that people like to throw out.
Improving mental care, as well as healthcare in general, as well as education and societal welfare would go a long way to curbing gun violence in the United States, but sensible gun regulation is also valid. This just isn't sensible.
And they recently passed a bill that would exempt them from these proposed laws.

I can't find a source on this beyond this editorial, which briefly mentions it in the first paragraph then goes off on a tangent government spending. Googling this supposed vote brings up nothing but webpages citing it as well.
I just don't understand the point in laws like this especailly because they only affect state level
It is literally as easy as driving nextdoor to get your guns and driving back, and you've completely circumvented any laws while making things more of a pain in the ass for normal gun owners.
It's just like how here in Ohio fireworks aren't allowed at all, so everyone just takes a fun day to the next state over, buys a bunch, drives back, and sets em off while the cops are busy with actual important stuff.
The supreme court might eventually do something about these sorts of laws, but one shouldn't get their hopes up, because even they support a considerable deal of gun control.

You kiddin? Lake Arrowhead/Big Bear all day erry day! On a serious note though I always did find it funny that many people haven't seen any snow in their entire lives when LA is so close to places like Arrowhead and Big Bear. I just wish the weather would make up its mind though. One day it can be a blizzard and the next over 100 degrees.

That's how it is here as well. Fireworks are banned in some areas but People just waltz down to Mexico for fireworks and just drive them back up to California. It's far too easy for a criminal to get a gun illegally. Some of the guns gang members use have been banned for decades but are easilly smuggled into the state. I truly hope one day California will be rid of its crime problem.
For a state the has 407 billions dollars in debt, 1.6 million unemployed, and 4.1 million on food stamps, they sure do know where to place their priorities. Prioritizing castrating the 2nd amendment.

You could use this argument to justify ignoring just about any issue considered "petty".
The supreme court might eventually do something about these sorts of laws, but one shouldn't get their hopes up, because even they support a considerable deal of gun control.
It goes both ways. The Supreme Court is always the "middle-ground" for most cases regarding gun control. All I hope for is for someone to bring up, "US Military uses automatics... Why can't we?" and gets the Hughes Amendment and certain aspects of NFA 34 removed(mainly the shit regarding silencers)

The Supreme court doesn't protect that. In fact, following their decision, you could theoretically introduce a lot of gun legislation to whittle it down to protecting only a few guns.
Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.
At best, this can only protect the most commonly used firearms by a majority of the population.

>SB293, which requires that guns sold in the state be equipped with technology, such as biometric readers, that would prevent anyone but the registered owner from firing them
this shit is so stupid it's laughable.
Let's make up random laws for technology that doesn't even exist!
Someone's been watching the original Judge Dredd movie.
I like the bills that improve background checks, add bans for convicts and require safety classes.
These all seem like great ideas because they focus on dangerous and irresponsible people.
The ones that blame guns and seek purely to restrict the firearms themselves are ridiculous, they work on the premise that the longer a shooter takes to reload, the better.
Most democrats are retarded, what else is new?
Why 10?

SB 374 by Sen. Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento: bans detachable magazines in rifles
Why?
Most democrats are retarded, what else is new?
The amount of retarded democrats is only a fraction of retarded republicans
Trust me when I say maybe democrats are just tired of your gun nut culture, like the rest of us Europeans who have to hear this shit every single time a gun thread pops up.

Europe needs more guns.
Europe needs more guns.
Depends on which part of Europe you mean, and what you mean with "needs".
Europe needs more guns.
Why?
Europe needs more guns.
Got enough hunting rifles and shotguns already.
Got enough hunting rifles and shotguns already.
What about machine guns and sub machine guns?
You good?
These are great news.
The rest varies from "eh" to fully retarded

SB 755 by Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis: increases the number of crimes - including drug addiction, chronic alcoholism and others - that result in a 10-year ban on being allowed to own a gun
The bills now move to the Assembly.
don't forget this one
I can understand wanting to have people go take classes and get certified. That I can accept, but forcing people to get a background check for ammunition? I know a large majority of people buy ammo online so are they going to have to get it shipped to a FFL holder then pay the fee for a background check and picking it up?
I'm glad I don't live in California anymore. Some of the crazy shit that comes out of there.
What about machine guns and sub machine guns?
You good?
I... I don't want those? Why would I?
EDIT: hell, asking me whether I want machine guns is as sensible as asking me whether I'd like to store a bazooka in my garage. I mean, sure, I guess I wouldn't mind, but what's the fucking point?
