Looks like the funding seriously slowed after the 600 dollar one sold out.

That's around what a regular high end phone costs. Don't see what's funny about it.
Not sure what people seem to hate about. Looks like a solid premium phone.

No it is pointless, and dual booting is available on many phones.
Can I install Gentoo on it?

Only after you fuck around flashing custom firmware & bootloaders.
(probably in an attempt to stop your lagdroid lagging)
450 euros is pretty cheap for a phone like that.
The cheapest Iphone5 is 650 and has 10% of the hardware.

Pointless to you maybe. If I had the money I'd use the shit out of those features.
I feel tempted as I like how he focus on the colors of the screen instead of hurr durr more pixels. But what I don't like is that it's going to be limited and that the only way of getting it is paying now without having any idea how it will actually turn out. Who knows? Maybe it will end up being a huge dissapointment.

If it gets funded wouldn't it make sense to sell it after that? Or do they want to make it not only premium but also exclusive?
Considered investing, saw that with Indiegogo they debit the money immediately.
Not really happy with that.
That's because with Indiegogo they get to keep the money no matter if the project gets funded or not.
That's pretty damn hardcore, and I'm actually optimistic over this. It's bleeding edge technology with bleeding edge ideas. Edge.
They've set the bar pretty high here with what they're advertising, a full desktop OS as well as 2 mobile ones. I just hope they're not promising us the world and end up delivering Detroit instead.
Holy fuck them specs.
Sounds like an interesting experiment but I wouldn't want to buy in to a first generation device for something like this.
For anyone who watched the video, they're talking about a faceplate made of Sapphire Crystal.
Try scratching that with normal use, jesus fuck.
3 million in one day.
they might just make it, actually.

I think it was because of the $600 phone deal, but It does seem more probable, yeah.

I remember reading a few articles on the use of sapphire..canonical of all people are going to be the first people using the technology in the consumer market. That rocks.

My pmp has gorrila glass and despite videos on youtube showing how it's impossible to scratch it it has a few deep scratches even though I use it carefully.

Gorilla Glass isn't sapphire though, it's just toughened glass
Looks like an awesome phone. I like that they're looking at things like the screen, battery, internals, wasn't even expecting the ability to dual boot Android. 600$ is about what you'd pay for a high end, unlocked smart phone. I just think they've set their goal a bit too high, this is something only enthusiasts will buy.
This is only meant for enthusiasts. If anyone bothered to watch the video on the indiegogo they basically said it was supposed to be one-time formula 1 phone. They're only gonna do one production run, and only backers will be able to get one. So yeah, it's in no way meant for the general consumer, and that's basically the point of the phone.
I think canonical are putting out this phone as a proof of concept, if they manage to blow everyone away with this small production run then other manufacturers will want to jump in with Ubuntu phones.
I am so sorry, but every time I hear Ubuntu, I imagine someone getting Barack Obama's name wrong. Like, "President Ubuntu, here are your choices..." It's sad, because I don't know what Ubuntu does, and I probably never will, because every time I hear that name, I crack up. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

They have wildly differing pronunciations, I dont see how you could get that.

This is an Android phone
"32 million is impossible in 30 days"
and yet 10% of the way there, in 1 day.
too bad it only has LTE, i would consider it if it had an AWC.

This post is so fucking edgy that I circumcised myself on it by mistake, we get it, you don't like Android, stop shitting up threads about Android with this "lagdroid" bullshit.
