This is an Android phone
It's an ARM phone. Android has little to nothing to do with the hardware of a phone Unlike most flagships, Canonical want people to mess around with this.
This post is so fucking edgy that I circumcised myself on it by mistake, we get it, you don't like Android, stop shitting up threads about Android with this "lagdroid" bullshit.

ace reply mate that showed me totes!!!! You stop.
Anti-edgy posts are worse than edgy ones.
That's because with Indiegogo they get to keep the money no matter if the project gets funded or not.
holy fuck read the page. Oh right this is Sensationalist Headlines, I guess that would be going above and beyond the line of duty.
"32 million is impossible in 30 days" and yet 10% of the way there, in 1 day.
That doesn't mean it'll continue at the same rate though.
"32 million is impossible in 30 days" and yet 10% of the way there, in 1 day. too bad it only has LTE, i would consider it if it had an AWC.
They were selling them for $680, now that they're gone it will probably be much slower. I hope they make it, if only to show that this kind of device is viable as a product.
Hardware means nothing if the OS running on it is fundamentally flawed as Bulldozer was implying (Bulldozer doesn't seem to really know what he's talking about though)
No, he really doesn't seem to. All he seems to do is post things he sees on /g/ and take them for fact Also, saying this is an android phone is kind of unfair. It can run android, but it is primarily designed to run Ubuntu Touch, which is in a way related to Android (Both use the Linux kernel) but it afaik it stops there. For now, Ubuntu Touch utilises Google's modified version of Linux, beside some other low level drivers, which are in operation under Android. At the same time though, that doesn't mean Canonical have only slapped on a new UI to android. Instead of taking android and adapting it to Ubuntu, they did vice versa. But there isn't anything stopping Canonical from replacing these elements in their entirety. Especially a group like canonical having such experience with Linux and working with new architechtures
I'm not too sure, but this could go places. Just needs a bit of advertising.
They added new perks all the way up to $830 http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge?c=activity
how does this have $4million already this is like the textbook failure case
how does this have $4million already this is like the textbook failure case
How do you mean?
The only thing I'm really skeptical about is the 32 MILLION KICKSTARTER. That's just a bit unrealistic. They should be getting more "proper" investors IMHO
That's because with Indiegogo they get to keep the money no matter if the project gets funded or not.
Clearly not the case, the only difference between indiegogo and kickstarter is that on indiegogo devs are given the choice to do it that way.
Wow, 675! Another price point I am a couple dollars away from affording. Maybe this is a sign I should just stick to my phone.
I like the concept of desktop on a phone very good. Puts those powerful phones to better use. But yeah, 32 million.. :/

$5,369,349 Raised of $32,000,000 Goal damn i wish i could raise that much money
I was going to get the $625 one but paypal just wouldn't work and now they're sold out :(

Ubuntu Desktop won't even run on Ubuntu Mobile until they patch it later.
Holy crap. $32,000,000 [≈ US Chamber of Commerce election spending in 2010]
It is expensive, but you have to take into account that it's going to have 4GB RAM, 128GB flash, sapphire glass and dual boot out of the box. Also the production costs will probably be higher than usual since they aren't making all that many units. So it's not really overpriced, especially considering there are more expensive phones with inferior hardware out there. [editline]25th July 2013[/editline] I also wonder what kind of improvements the silicon anode battery will bring, if they actually manage to keep their promise on delivering that technology. It's certainly a bold move, considering that the batteries we have now have barely evolved in the last decade and they're going for something completely new.
almost 2 million every day really hope they get it
I think the different price points may have been a bad idea in the end, knowing that you could've gotten one for $200 cheaper if you went to the page 4 days sooner is very discouraging. Also they're going hard on the convergence device spiel which is a bit contradictory to their target audience. Everyone knows it won't replace a developers PC, or a designers PC, let alone a gamer's one. It's pretty impressive but you're not going to be running Battlefield 3 on it or anything. With that said, I think it's a leap in the right direction, having the ultimate of power and mobile technology released by and brought to life by supporters of open and free software, it'd be a shame to see it fail. I've no idea the kind of video Shuttleworth would have to produce if it falls short. I genuinely hope never to see that $700 again.
