My Auntie was caught up in that. Her house was the only Earthquake proof one for quite a while so she had 20+ people staying in her house.
Who's fault is this?
Ok, so how will the new fault effect the continental drift this time?
New Zealand will join Antarctica.

Ask me in a couple million years.

It's Australia's fault for grounding New Zealand for having earthquakes.
This hole, it was made for me!
Jesus, a new fault?
Also, i have a childhood friend who lives in new zealand, i think he is in north island though :ohdear:
Remember, you've got to take into account the fact that the population of New Zealand is only like 12 people, though.

400,000 people in Christchurch and no deaths? That's a pretty fucking good number if you ask me.
This is all your fault New Zealand
Here we go again.
Not a new fault at all, just been inactive for 16,000 years:
Thankfully it didn't kill anyone...
I don't think I feel so safe living in Auckland now. Who knows what might happen next...
I wouldn't feel safe living in Aux either, you guys have two volcanoes there and Ruapehu isn't that far from there either. Mind you I'm in Wellington and I'm not looking forwaed to the day we have a massive earthquake either considering we're right on a fault line too..
in piranha 3d there's some new fault appearing right? awesome
The earthquake didn't tear a new fault line open. It is just that no one knew the fault was there before.
Damn, more quakes. Hopefully they start to calm down and not happen for another 1000 or so years.

Oh yeah and about that 5.2 quake. Hawke's Bay usually has one on that scale once a year on average, may/maynot have been triggered by the 7.1 quake.
Can someone show us the map of the fault line?
Do these help?:
