In the last 10 years, Canada has had 6 school shootings.
In the last 10 years, Europe has had 9 school shootings.
The past year alone, the USA has had 28 school shootings.
Well, I re-read my post and I feel stupid now. I apologize for posting. I do wish someone would come up with a way to pave the road change that's actually realistic though.

When people want to hide numbers to make it look better, yes I am going to disagree with it. Europe has had 15 since '94, not 9. Canada has had 8 since '92, not 6.
I think there is some confusion about the difference between a mass shooting and a school shooting. Not excusing or defending the "only 28?" statements. Just saying.
Oh my god.
Is someone on facepunch actually using their brain...?
i agree the amount of school shootings in the US is outrageous, but a comment of "is this the new american past time?" is just fucking dumb.

It seems more productive to come up with some thought-provoking discussion about possibilities rather than posting statistics about other countries is all. The latter just seems more like elitism than anything else.

Criticism is a huge field in academia.
You're brushing it aside simply because you don't like the discourse.

I'm confused about what you're getting at. I admitted I was wrong?
Actually it's different in the USA when talking about guns. They're EVERYWHERE.
VERY hard to make something illegal when almost every person owns at least one.
I'd say impossible too with the current laws and culture. Not without violence or protest, anyways.
if this happens in England, mass newspaper headlines, memorial day, an event that no-one forgets
if this happens in America, "meh, just another shooting"
How do people not see this as an issue?
EDIT: It figures that all 3 people who rated me dumb are Americans, you are all so blinded by your cultural identity and traditions that you're willing to risk human lives in the process.

*if it happens in England there is a huge national debate and soul searching exactly how something terrible can happen and people try to think of solutions to how we can reduce the chances of this ever happening again
*if this happens in America - meh freedoms
40% is quite a lot!
And that's just households with guns. Do you know how many guns each household has? I think we have 6, two are mine.
It'd be weird to not have more than one gun.
that is because americans are rich, and guns are cheep, and guns are just a commodity to buy. Still less than 20% of americans care about them, and declining.
"Doesn't happen that often", shows statistics that it happened 28 times in the past year alone.
That is like every 2 weeks

Mate, 10 years ago it was 2004, not '94. I mean, I know time passes quickly and shit, but damn.
Mate, 10 years ago it was 2004, not '94. I mean, I know time passes quickly and shit, but damn.
Oh God I can't tell you how many times this happens. I'm still in pre-2010. People say ten years ago and I think it's '90's still. Not 20 years.
You're making comparisons about countries with completely varying populations, school systems, and overall culture, not to mention that Europe is divided over 50 (?) countries. That's a really stupid comparison, imo, especially since Canada has a population of 31 million compared to the US's 313 million. Wikipedia is not a viable source for statistics. There's a reason wikipedia is no longer allowed as a form of reference in most schools.
By your own logic, if Canada had the same population as the US and a proportionate number of school shootings based on that (~9x/yr), it would still have fewer each year. Europe has already been commented on.
If the disparity in number of shootings is then based on school systems and culture, maybe it's time to make some changes!
It took them about two hours to clear campus.
For three hours after the "all clear" classes went on as scheduled.
One of my friends is a TA in the building directly connected to the one where the shooting took place. He was scheduled to lead his session at 3:30PM and his course coordinator told him he had to go.
Guess his $8 an hour position is about the value his PI puts on his life.
As I said in the last related thread, which oh look at that was only six fucking days ago (the New Mexico one), the problem isn't with the access to the guns but the culture around them. People are always going to get their hands on a gun one way or another. But when Americans see guns as the solution to everything, you've found your problem.

I wonder why people decide to shoot up "gun free zones" such as schools, no one will stop them because this madman is the only one with a gun.

Half of these aren't even school shootings, but unrelated shootings that happened to be near a school holy fuck i literally debunked this in the last thread.

If i for some insane reason ( i do not want to harm innocent people) decided to kill as much people as possible i would go to these "gun free zones" No one will stop me and the bodycount will be insane.
You don't have to watch the whole video but skip to 21:19 for her story on how her parents were executed and she could do nothing but watch.

My brother was two buildings away when the shooting happened, and his roommate was in the very room where the person got shot. Apparently the shooter came in, shot the TA, and just left to get caught by the police.
They're both back at their apartment now, and my brother still hasn't talked to his roommate. I'm surprised they just let him return home.

You're making it seem like gun-free zones are bad, but they're only "bad" in a country where it's so easy to get guns anywhere else

schools all over the world are 'gun free zones'
just because your country has more school shootings than a country overran with boko haram doesn't mean the problem is with the fact that people are not allowed to bring their guns to a place of study.
Nursing homes are gun free zones too ya know.
where's the part where everyone remembers that the US's population is equal to half of Europe.

The Arapahoe High School shooter killed himself when he was cornered by a school resource office (cop) with a gun.
American schools can have pretty shitty environments compared to european schools from what I hear, along with a lack of free and good mental health treatment, these two probably compound to cause these shootings.

which is cheap
Considering a Syrian rebel expects to pay $2000+ for his AK.
