Slow, leaky, rusty: Britain's £10bn submarine beset by design flaws

I feel that military spending on conventional weapons, ground forces, air forces and naval forces is ridiculously expensive and outdated.
Stockpile nukes and deter invasion, keep a reasonable home-guard force.
I just hope aliens show up and give us a reason to become a united race, before we blow ourselves up over what amounts to nothing more than petty playground squabbles.
Good thing that we're spending £10bn each on these submarines instead of funding university education!
fun fact: Their are no pictures of the Americans nuclear submarines rotter

Good to see all that money that got removed from supporting my local ambulance service is being well spent.

In all honesty though there's a hundred other things that need more money so I don't see why we need to shut £10bn in an iron coffin then sink it to the bottom of the sea.
The stereotype about british engineering sure is being upheld here.
Good to see that the F-35 JSF isn't the only budgetary disaster at the moment. I was afraid that we Yanks were the only ones to have made a huge prototyping mistake :v:
F-35 isn't a disaster. Expensive sure, but it costs LESS than ONE TENTH of ONE percent of the USA's yearly GDP per year, and so many countries will benefit from it anyway. I'd say it's fine
Well this is embarrassing... I thought we had a reputation for making the best submarines...
lolwut? Germany got the best subs during the early 20th Cen. until the end of WW2. From Cold War to today, it's either the Russians or the Americans. I'll put my money on the Yanks.
But does it leak oil?
Good thing they didn't put that money in better research like medicine or something.
Who needs medicine when you have submarines and aircraft carriers?
Good thing they didn't put that money in better research like medicine or something.
Can't we do both?

Holy shit
Did they have a man christen these ships or something? Everyone knows it has to be a lady or bad luck will befall upon it
fun fact: Their are no pictures of the Americans nuclear submarines rotter
because it's a nuclear submarine
which is kind of a really hush hush thing
Lord Horatio Nelson would be ashamed.

Stop blowin' 'oles in my sub!
Well that was an expensive fuck up MoD wasn't it.
You say it like its their fault, its BAE Systems that should be to blame seeing as they were the ones building it...
Also, It is normal for first of class trials to identify areas where modifications are needed, so they can fix it for later subs.
But in saying that, still doesn't explain how the fuck they ran it on to a beach...
Well this is embarrassing... I thought we had a reputation for making the best submarines...
Nope, germans are still the leading dudes when it comes to u-boots, their electric submarines are the most silent submarines in the world.
Don't worry when the government starts selling the NHS they will be able to spent 30bn to fix these teething issues
It seems as if all this shipbuilding is motivated by nationalism and for the small number of uses these ships have, their are more cost effective solutions.
My submarine is better.

I'd call it a pretty big failure seeing as the plane was supposed to have a flyway cost of under $100 million, and now the pentagon estimates a flyaway cost anywhere between $200 to $300 million.
Not to mention all the redesigns and concerns over safety. I have no doubt that once the aircraft enters service it will be fantastic, but at what cost? Honestly, Lockheed Martin are very disappointing in their performance. Both of the government's biggest aircraft contracts with them have ended with huge delays, huge problems in regards to safety, and beyond reasonable costs. Maybe I'm just a Boeing fanboy :v:

Watch the price go even higher, with countries cutting back their buy.. as the buy gets cut back the cost goes up.
