• Ubisoft Dev says Valve Should Outsource Half-Life 3

AFAIK they outsourced Episode 4 to Arkane (Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah, Dishonored), but it was cancelled. Knowing Arkane it would have been awesome. (http://www.pcgamer.com/half-life-2-episode-4-was-being-developed-by-arkane-now-cancelled/)
Remember that time Nintendo outsourced Mario and Zelda?
If they -do- outsource a game, it should be a side title (left4dead, aliens warm, etc) and not their flagship fucking game
I'd love to see turtle rock get ahold of left 4 dead again. Maybe the next one can be even more atmospheric with the source 2 engine upgrades.
triple A game devs have the best stuff to say, because they know how to make good games. [sp]dont take this srsly you idiots[/sp]
The only company I feel would even do it justice would be 4A games.
There are a lot of companies that make good games that I wouldn't mind getting a hold of HL. If, for some absurd reason, Platinum wanted to make a spinoff game with HL characters I'd be down with it. However Ubi or anyone associated with them shouldn't be allowed near HL.
Gearbox will probably take all the money, outsource the game themselves and use said money to fund Borderlands 3. Just like what they did with Aliens: Colonial Marines.
Look at Ubisoft telling others how to finish games faster. :v: I'd rather wait for HL3 in ~2018 with awesome everything than for HL2/3/4/5/6/reboot/reboot2 to be shat out Ubisoft-style on a regular basis.
"Get the crowbar dlc now for just 59,99 $ a month"
Ubisoft don't care what comes out of their PR department it seems.
I do
Honestly that game is pretty overrated The gameplay is ultimately about as repetitive and simple as the typical Wii Fit activity, and it might as well be one if you're using the Wii remote.
ubisoft is filled with retards it seems
Aliens Warm - a game where the player and up to three friends knit jumpers for arthropod aliens so that they can survive the harsh winters of their home planet.
Expert difficulty has you knit sweaters for Xenomorphs.
"Get the crowbar dlc now for just 59,99 $ a month"
wouldn't it be realistic to say that valve is just as likely as ubisoft to implement this considering that valve has like 3 successful free to play, pay to customize games
I'd rather wait 5 years to a decade for a game that's actually made like it should be than what ubisoft does overwork the shit out of the game and completely rush it, making a totally awful game
I think Valve wants HL3 to break the fucking ground, like HL2 did before it. And they're waiting for the opportunity to do that, and that doesn't come every year.
wouldn't it be realistic to say that valve is just as likely as ubisoft to implement this considering that valve has like 3 successful free to play, pay to customize games
But those are multi-players games, not single-player, story driven games.
"Ubisoft dev says pants should be worn on head." Ubisoft is like the Amanda Bynes of gaming.
I think Valve wants HL3 to break the fucking ground, like HL2 did before it. And they're waiting for the opportunity to do that, and that doesn't come every year.
from what I can tell they're trying to wrap up source 2 / a huge update before actually bothering otherwise it would be the same engine version nearly as half life 2 and wouldn't be nearly as substantial gta 5 wouldn't be nearly as amazing as it is if they just remade gta 4 and didn't rebuild everything
this is a bit OT but is the next entry supposed to be episode 3 or half life 3? I see both titles being used and it confuses me.
you cant call half life their flag ship series anymore
Steam is Valve's flagship product now
Steam is Valve's flagship product now
But not their flagship series...
I think it's really pathetic of Valve that other developers actually have to raise the prospect of having the game outsourced to another studio, because Valve is just ignoring all the demand and associated money that's been out there for it. Maybe Valve should hire people with an actual interest in responding to customer demand and making money, instead of having this 'employees can work on whichever projects they like', meaning nothing ever gets done, nonsense.
The reason for Valve's high reputation when it comes to video games is their high quality standards. We all like to joke about Valve time, but rarely argue with the results. If you listen to the dev commentary of their games or have ever heard about scrapped files that fans have dug up, it quickly becomes apparent Valve make enough content to make 3-4 games, but end up cutting most of it during constant iteration. Valve is virtually unrestricted by time and money, they just care about quality. In the grand scheme of things, Episode 3/HL3's development cycle isn't out of line with that of their other main titles. In fact, when Valve do "rush" things, the results tend to be on the weak side or are even met with disappointment. The community uproar that followed L4D2's release was a prime example of this, but even the Half-Life 2 episodes didn't work out quite as intended. That's the downside with having this reputation. From what limited view we have into Valve's office structure, I can't agree with your assessment of Valve having employees that get fuck-all done. We'll never see most of the content they came up with, so the most we can do is speculate based on the tip of the iceberg constructed by dev commentary and canned files fans dug up - and that certainly doesn't seem like fuck all's been produced. That mentality of taking it easy because you can take it easy also doesn't seem to fit Valve's criteria when it comes to choosing employees based on their history that usually involves being an important creative force/hard worker. Working at Valve seems to have a bigger emphasis on playful experimentation than on getting certain results, as is also reflected in their content like how TF2 has grown into unexpected directions since its release, but that just seems like a different approach to creating content. I for one wouldn't want Valve to trade time for quality. I'm not interested in the mild iterations produced on a yearly basis that many AAA devs fabricate these days.
wouldn't it be realistic to say that valve is just as likely as ubisoft to implement this considering that valve has like 3 successful free to play, pay to customize games
1. They only have two free2play games. 2. All of their ingame microtransactions are either purely cosmetic (Dota 2, Portal 2, CSGO) or with downsides for items (TF2 weapons) 3. Ubisoft games like AC Unity require you to pay money to get certain stuff (chests) and are story-driven games with a freaking ingameshop.
"valve please outsource half life 3 so we can make money off of our shitty version of it"
The expansions aren't considered canon though? I don't know, the writers said something weird about it being both canon and non-canon at the same time.
They are considered canon as long as it wasn't retconned i.e. stated otherwise.
They are considered canon as long as it wasn't retconned i.e. stated otherwise.
The race X is not canon, it's gearbox own thing. Other than that, the character featured in both are canon.
wouldn't it be realistic to say that valve is just as likely as ubisoft to implement this considering that valve has like 3 successful free to play, pay to customize games
I'm pretty sure VALVe learned not to put hats in a mostly single-player game after the failure of the Portal 2 market.
There was, like, some weird Episode 4 thing that they did outsource and it ended up being canceled. [editline]6th December 2014[/editline] http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Half-Life_2:_Episode_Four
