Ubisoft Dev says Valve Should Outsource Half-Life 3

Yeah, lets listen to Ubisoft, the company that outsources the PC ports of their games. That totally works well, right guys?
Fuck off Ubisoft.
"outsource it to gearbox"

A community developer, AKA someone who knows jack shit.
Valve is actually a good game designer, even if they've moved more into software.
TF2, Dota 2, CSGO. All big games that have a constantly ~big~ playerbase.
I'm sure they're probably trying to find a way to get HL3 to have a constant playerbase on the MP part as well.
now introducing SP micro transactions and extremely poor optimization.
We've locked it at 10 fps for that extra cinematic feeling.
I wasn't aware the gearbox expansions were considered official canon (maybe by some fans...?). To the point though, Valve is a company where a certain level of quality is expected of them, outsourcing Half Life bloody 3 would be a disaster in PR and for the game itself I'm sure.
Not really sure what this ubisoft dev is trying to accomplish by saying this, other than the employee "confessionals" ubisoft devs have been suggesting some odd things in regards to other companies lately.
The editorial council literally believes because they have the largest workerbase on earth in an interactive company, they can literally manpower any game or concept into financial wealth; too bad the their string of shitty ass games for years says otherwise.
Im thinking of it being like what happened to Black Mesa; it was super hyped, and when it was released it was pretty good, but didnt live up to the hype.
IMO Black Mesa was close to perfect out of a reimagining. It gave alot more life to the original HL1 and felt it did it justice, then again I wasn't on the BM hype train since it's conception.
outsourcing the half-life franchise is not a bad idea, and it was done well before (opfor and blue shift)
but the main half-life story should remain in the hands of valve
Well in a way Valve does "outsource" games, they just absorb the company into Valve first :v:
I think it's really pathetic of Valve that other developers actually have to raise the prospect of having the game outsourced to another studio, because Valve is just ignoring all the demand and associated money that's been out there for it.
Maybe Valve should hire people with an actual interest in responding to customer demand and making money, instead of having this 'employees can work on whichever projects they like', meaning nothing ever gets done, nonsense.
Their "nonsense" works, they've done it since pretty much the beginning and it's got them to where they are now, Valve's Steam is currently the biggest digital distribution software, they've made some of the best single-player games on the market, Dota 2 and CS-GO are the biggest competitive games out there and TF2 remains one of the most played games on Steam, I don't know what you're talking about Valve not listening to customer demand and not caring about making money because by the looks of it Valve knows exactly what people want and how to make money from it, just because they're not making games you want doesn't mean otherwise.
Half Life 3 made by Telltale.
Actually Telltale game that would take place in Half-Life universe could be interesting.
Actually anything that would expand and shine some more light/information about Half-Life universe would be nice.
Honestly, while I love Telltale-- only Valve can make Half-Life 3. Though, I wouldn't mind a "Tales from City Seventeen" or something similar to what they're doing with TWD, Borderlands, etc.
Ubisoft seems to have a pretty big mouth.

I wouldn't mind if they outsourced another game to do with Adrian Shephard to a games company that doesn't suck, just to tide us over.
Like a what if type game, or something.

I almost feel like Valve are staying relatively silent about Half Life 3 just to avoid hyping it up too much. They make the odd joke about it every now and again, and it's possible that they are working on it- but if they are, I'd rather that they take their time and release it when they want to, rather than listen to any of us arseholes.

Didn't help Duke Nukem Forever either.
My main concern with hl3 and how valve will actually handle it. I personally hate the l4d games since they just keep throwing mindless zombies at you without rest, and its so repetitive and annoying. (I uninstalled it when I found out how unfun MP is with the whole incapacitated bullshit) And yet I love every serious sam game even though its the same thing at the core. This is where diversity comes along I guess, If anything serious sam has a lot of diverse levels, weapons and enemies which makes it really fun (thought I'll be honest here there's something which made me hate SS3 more than even SS2 can't really put it in words but it felt less fun)
Now back on HL3 If they keep the game still related to physics and have the pace a little slower like usual (cloth/water physics would already be groundbreaking if it is done flawless maybe even dynamic level destruction like in Red Faction games). Then it is gonna be fine in my book, Portal 2 wasn't a let down in anyway if anything it expanded upon the original flawlessly, the gameplay was the same as usual and the co-op was very good they really should have a co-op for HL3 too.
On the topic of outsourcing I don't think its really that bad of an idea most people say the cd-i zelda/mario are terrible games but those were made on a weak budget and incompetent developers which also applies to sonic boom. If it weren't for the cd-i, youtube poops and memes wouldn't be as strong as today. Good things can come out of bad things in the end.
Pretty sure it was the original L4D. As everything else after that was them absorbing ideas and mods of other people. Granted those games were great and fantastic, they're not really Valve games at heart. Portal definitely wasn't Valve's idea in the first place either.
Whats so bad about valve seeing great promise in source mods and giving them enough resources and player base to build a full game from scratch?
Portal, counterstrike, team fortress, dota2, the Stanley parable HD, the list is large and they are all great games built from concepts they saw potential in
I actually shouted "NO" out loud when I read the title
Why the fuck would valve listen to ubisoft any way?
Out of ANYONE, I'd prefer Gearbox to do it SOLELY because they did blueshift and opposing force, and I enjoyed those.
With that being said, I still would prefer that only Valve did it, but if they had to chose someone else I guess I would prefer gearbox
A studio by the same name made some decent mods 13-15 years ago, so what. Let's take a peek at their catalog from the past five years:

this
I don't get why people assume "Oh they made these amazing half life games so they still could do amazing!"
blueshift / opfor was WAY long ago, and those were secondary expansions
this is literally the main game, half life 3 we are talking about. Not some secondary expansion, it's something ONLY VALVE should do because only valve knows half life best
gearboxe's hl1 games were based solely on hl1, but hl3 would be completely open for them to completely ruin. they have no baseline to care about, they can do whatever they want. And seeing how awful they seem to be coming they'd probably fuck it up and use the money for themselves
imagine if nintendo outsourced another studio to do zelda, or smash brothers. Or if Rockstar outsourced gta6 to another developer
or Croteam outsourced another studio for serious sa-
oh wait thats happened and it was bad
or sega outsourced another studio for a soni-
oh that was also really bad.
postal 3 was also a horrible mistake too
Sure you have things like New Vegas but outsourcing seems to have really shitty complications, especially with games that are so specifically stylized by the studio that's always made them. Especially when the studio has a history of making games that they are handed turn into goop
from what I can tell they're trying to wrap up source 2 / a huge update before actually bothering
otherwise it would be the same engine version nearly as half life 2 and wouldn't be nearly as substantial
gta 5 wouldn't be nearly as amazing as it is if they just remade gta 4 and didn't rebuild everything
if this is true I just hope they have the base game done. and just have recode the map's and stuff but otherwise there done the game I hope.
I am not saying anyone else should even attempt doing Half-Life 3, but at some point people have to agree what Valve is doing at the moment is nothing short of ridiculous. You can only hide behind "They are trying to perfect the game and will take as long as it takes to do so" excuse for so long.
I would love to see the next Half-Life game, if/when they finally release it I'm pretty sure it will be great and there will be a certain standard to it, but come on, more time has passed between release of 2 and now than between 1 and 2. Almost no updates whatsoever. And while some people might still consider Valve to be the lord and saviour of PC gaming, games have changed a lot over that period of time. I really hope they will be able to have a very fresh and new experience while still making sure that those 10+ years were not wasted. And don't forget, more time equals more expectation, especially when talking about a franchise like Half-Life. So even though what they have done for Half-Life 2 was almost groundbreaking, they have to do even more to prove that all that time was worth the wait.
Obviously it is not Ubisofts place to tell Valve how to do their job, but I cannot say whether Valve is on the right track right now.

It did a very long time ago, hence why it's been off steam for many many years...

Pretty sure Valve didn't make the Stanley Parable.

That bastard killed my childhood, I used to play the shit out of 3DO's Army Men games.
Am I the only person who didn't like gearbox's half life games? I thought they were pretty crap in comparison to half life 1
Nah ubi. i wouldn't mind another company making expansions like blue shift and opposing force- but valve should make anything concerning main-game half life.
(infact, i kinda hope that expansion stuff does happen with half life 3, i really liked seeing half life from the perspective of other characters, and playing as a mindless transhuman combine grunt has potential)
