The NTC? They've evolved to much more than a group of insurgents. They do issue arrests, and are putting key pro-ghaddafi officials on trial. Sure, they'll kill him if they have to (And I'm sure some are hoping for the chance) but they intend on putting him in international court. Qatars got a close eye on how this is operating and are trying to make sure they stay as civil as possible.
yeah thats a justice squad right there
not like a death squad or anything
don't romanticize them. They are insurgent killers. Just because you don't like Gaddafi doesn't mean these are good people.
Some of you need to recall this is exactly how Al Qaeda came into power in Afghanistan, and how Saddam came into power in Iraq. In ten year's time these people are going to be our enemies, make no mistake.

Pretty sure a bunch of people in a jeep with what looks like an old anti-aircraft weapon on the back isn't the NTC.

I think you're paranoid and delusional. 'Death squad'? They're just civilians, how the hell are they supposed to get uniforms and a 'military vehicle'. They haven't shot at open crowds like Ghaddafi has, and if you haven't already been able to tell they now control most of Libya. The amount of journalists in Libya who would be quick to report any atrocities caused by the NTC themselves would have run a few stories by now. Infact, there was one story where people were convinced the Libyans were 'rounding up black people and arresting them' when it was shortly after confirmed that they were simply investigating if they were Ghaddafi loyalists because he was known to bring people in from nearby African countries such as Sudan and hire them as soldiers. If they were cleared, they were good to go. The 'death squad' you're referring to have democratic aims.

Read up!
I thought you just said they're a bit more than civilians with guns.
You can't play the "they're a legitimate paramilitary organization" card and then say "well those are just civilians with guns what do you expect."
But they're rebels man, fighting against a corrupt ruler, they must be perfect. :downs:

Also, wasn't there one point where the NTC chairman got rid of most of the other members?
no way the crazy insurgents are racists too
oh no how could it be
i would have never guessed a bunch of stupid yahoos with ak-47's would start murdering black people.
If anybody calls me an idiot now for thinking that by the end of the decade Libya will be a dictatorship again then well.
I hope we have contact details so I can needlessly gloat about it then.

They are a legitimate paramilitary organization founded by former civilians, people aren't born into these things for christs sake! My point is, just because that picture doesn't look like it to you doesn't discredit everything they've done and continue to do to bring the first proper democracy into an Arab nation.

Yeah, like the Iranian revolution.
while murdering black people
"The rebels' National Transitional Council has called on fighters not to abuse prisoners and says those accused of crimes will receive fair trials. There has been little credible evidence of rebels killing or systematically abusing captives during the six-month conflict. Still, the African Union and Amnesty International have protested the treatment of blacks inside Libya, saying there is a potential for serious abuse."
http://news.yahoo.com/libyan-rebels-round-black-africans-130723394.html
Sure, the potential is there; and I don't agree with it because I'm sure somewhere inbetween the lines you're gonna find a trigger happy idiot alike any military ever; but 'while murdering black people' is incredibly far-fetched. It's only an issue at the moment because Gaddafi mercenaries were predominantly black; so they're paranoid and giving all trials. It's racial profiling, and it's wrong but I'm sure migrant workers will be undisturbed once this whole thing blows over.

Libya opening up its borders for international conferences and advisories should hopefully prevent the Libyan government from deteriorating into anything like that. Plus, Iran =/= Arab.

That's the concern. Hopefully isn't good enough.
That's the concern. Hopefully isn't good enough.
Anything could happen at this point, but there's no reason to be so pessimistic
Well that sure is considerate to women. I'll be glad to see him finally be locked up.
Yeah, the Rebels will probably just lock him up. I doubt they have any burning passion to behead him publicly
"The rebels' National Transitional Council has called on fighters not to abuse prisoners.
Yeah what their pseudo-leadership says and what the rioting insurgents do are fairly different stories
fact is that the insurgency is composed of some very bad people. one day those bad people will have armies under their command.
Anything could happen at this point, but there's no reason to be so pessimistic
The pessimism is well founded. Pretty much every revolution in documented history never achieves its goals and end up being the same system as before, with minor changes to mask such.
especially considering how well revolutions in the middle east usually turn out
You guys realize that in Arab countries, they use the word "woman" as a synonymous to coward, right?
We'll have to wait and see.
You guys realize that in Arab countries, they use the word "woman" as a synonymous to coward, right?
no shit really
You guys realize that in Arab countries, they use the word "woman" as a synonymous to coward, right?
Didn't know that.
But how could anyone ever talk down about women, they gay?
You guys realize that in Arab countries, they use the word "woman" as a synonymous to coward, right?
This is not true.

The NTC and the rebels aren't necessarily the same people, or aligned with the same things. Depending on where that photo was taken they could be part of the actual NTC (IE the people formerly based in Benghazi) or one of the many groups that also dislike Gaddafi and have taken to arms.
This is where the problem in my opinion lies, there's far too many different groups doing things at the moment to say that the "NTC are doing x".
yeah I'm talking about the people with guns
[editline]14th September 2011[/editline]
hence why I said "the insurgents" and not "whatever acronym is today's buzzword."

Oh! I completely misinterpreted your argument then. The NTC is the National Transitional Council, an official legislation for the new Libya. There are idiots with guns gathering all around, and any acting out of order are usually dealt with by these guys. As for the insurgents, they are an issue that have to be dealt with for sure.

By using their people with guns, doesn't seem like a good idea to be honest.
