You're just describing Europe in general.
Yeah but the places Europe took turned out fantastic... excluding parts of Africa to an extent.
I completely disagree with the 'invented most things worth inventing', because I know that at least to be completely untrue. Britain was certainly good at adapting the technologies of other civilizations, whether those be from Arabia, India, the Orient, or the rest of Europe.
It's okay, we invented Penicillin and the fucking telephone.
Yeah but the places Europe took turned out fantastic... excluding parts of Africa to an extent.
That was mostly decolonization and how badly handled it was which fucked things up. Before then, things were relatively peaceful and developing. Then of course the Soviets came into these countries and played "First country to turn communist gets free guns and money."
He added: "For the people who live in Northern Ireland, I should say we are not just an island, we are a collection of islands. I don't want anyone in Shetland or Orkney to feel left out by this."
Aww thanks.
Rule Britannia.
Course he's fucking jealous, our people don't get killed by rotten potatoes.
Well there was that one time

what
I'm fairly certain greater britain has one of the longest standing track records of evicting and killing the various native inhabitants of the island.
Roman auxiliaries (many of whom were Britons themselves) kill/enslave britons/picts over a 400 year period > Picts drive out or enslave the romanised britons as the roman empire begins receeding > Angle and Saxon renegade mercenaries displace/enslave/kill Britons and proceed to invite further settlement in England > Danes and Norwegians (who would later make up part of the British population) kill/enslave Engles, Picts and Gaels and seize control of a large percentage of England, Fortiu, Dal Riata and Major sections of various Gaelic kingdoms in Ireland > Normans displace and exterminate the English/Danish nobility and begin feudalising England at the expense of traditional engle/dane culture > Anglo-Normans begin the conquest of Wales and the Gaelic Kingdoms (ireland) for the next 500 years of British history, Wales falls in 1284, Remainder of Gaelic kingdoms in Ireland fall in 1603 when the Queen begins the colonizing of Northern Ireland, "rebellious" Gaelic kings, cheiftians and clans are forcibly displaced into Connacht as punishment (crappy farming land) > Puritans in Ireland massacre and enslave staggering volumes of Catholics > Lowland Clearances in Scotland/Northern England > Highland Clearances in Scotland
Then I guess the displacement/extermination ends around there to be replaced by general political convulsing, up until the modern day. Mind you there's still a fair deal of secular issues in Northern Ireland.

You should be proud of us, what the fuck!
It seems strange that the language of a group of near-savages living in a foggy and damp island on the periphery of Medieval Europe, managed to become essentially the most widespread one on the planet. (China doesn't count, the vast majority is within their own borders).
Its what happens when a country gets penetrated enough in its history. The inhabitants become a crazy mix of everything that invaded them, we've got Roman, Norman, Viking, German and various other clusterfucks that make us up now.
[sp]Not really we just got lucky with the formation of our trading posts and oversea possessions that it eventually grew into a global network, because of this expanse English was defined as the base language to communicate in these zones and because it was so fucking big and lasted so long it caused it to stay after it was liquidated down to what it is now.[/sp]

I grant you all of those things involved killing people.
Lowland Clearances in Scotland/Northern England > Highland Clearances in Scotland
This isn't though, the clearances were the movement of people to the industrializing cities and abroad, not an act of genocide.
If you really want to get anal about it, the original inhabitants of Britain were displaced by the Beaker culture people during the Bronze age.
And what do people remember Russia for?
Being a country that can defeat enemy's by their mere weather, then just flinging millions of peasants at weakened enemy's , both during the Napoleonic wars and WW2 battle for Stalingrad.
Didn't work for them so well during the winter war.
Also communism, which they nicked from french and European politic philosopher's
literature
We were the world's first industrialised great power and we made Queen
That's good enough for me
Well I don't know what kind of tactics were in force but most British seem to remember WW1 has a large sacrifice of good young men who were forced into conscription (although not initially), I thought by WW2 the Russians were conscripting civilians into the army.
So I feel thanks should go to the people who fought and died, rather than to the nation, its easy being the one to order civilians to fight than to do the fighting yourself.
ww1 in the UK was more of a volunteer army than a conscription based one.

They would disagree and insist that their tomahawk says that they owned the land. One things leads to another, and soon enough you have to bring in the army.
I know those damn savages trying to stay on the land they have lived on for their entire memory while some odd, often-hostile people come in and wave a paper around that says they own the land.
Please don't come in and post racist bullshit.

Firstly I didn't call them savages, I called them Indians.
Secondly, I was describing what actually happened. Some people would get pieces of paper saying they owned that land, and the Indians living there said that they actually owned that land since they already lived there, and were prepared to use tomahawks to make this point clear.
Finally, I don't get how saying all of this makes me view the Europeans as being a distinct biological group to the Indians, and that the Europeans held biological traits that made them superior to the Indians. The theory of racism itself is patent bollocks.
:v:
What are you trying to say? I don't see anyone trying to convince anyone of anything. I see many people (from different countries) talking about various countries in a light hearted manner.
Hah, yeah. Small, useless island that nobody cares about.

Not every group of indians used tomahawks, and the way you worded your post made it read very pro-european.
