Impeded progress at what? I'm not talking about schoolwork. I won't say anything about what it does to schoolwork because hell if I know. EDIT: I used to be that faggot telling his mom not to vote for Hilary Clinton for president because she had a part in GTA: San Andreas's Hot Coffee controversy. Now I look at myself, and I say "What good have video games done for me? And what harm?" And you know what? There are few if any benefits. The few are restricted to stuff that some studies talk about like faster reflexes or whatever. Big deal.
Which is why it's called entertainment. It's not meant to improve or destroy your brain. It's meant to be enjoyable.
Chex Quest taught me that eating cereal every day gives you 200 max health.
How many do you want them to ask?
I don't want them to ask more, but saying that "x% of parents think y" is a misleading statement. It would suggest that it represents all parents on the world/in a country, but it only represents a relatively small group of people, and the result is nowhere near the real opinion.
crime is lower than it has been in 20 years, video games, if anything, is helping the problem. Less people on the street committing crimes, more people taking their frustration out in video games.
I think the majority of parents are probably thinking more along the lines of "It wouldn't necessarily be a BAD thing if video games were banned" as opposed to "it would be good if video games were banned"
When I played football, I injured my knee and my dad literally told me I was alright. Walked around on a torn ligament for quite a while. However, that wasn't the doctor. Did a doctor really tell you that you were fine???
he said I had a sprained ligament and I'd be on crutches for six weeks turns out I had deformed my tibial plateau and a shard of bone had separated from the larger bone. I had to have surgery done and metal plates affixed to my knee. If I hadn't my knee would have kept grinding against itself, worn out the cartilage and given me arthritis. Thanks for nothing you lousy fucking Ohio doctors.
Breaking news: Parents too lazy playing video games to actually be a parent and govern their children.
I think anybody saying video games improved their lives would be biased.
Gave me a better grasp of more complex English terms when I was still learning how to read. I say this from playing text-adventures and generic 2-D RPGs; not games like Duke Nukem 3D or Doom. General knowledge. Timesink. Helped me connect with interesting individuals across the seas; and through drama on forum and community alike, I gained an interesting perspective on how to deal with similar drama in real life. One might argue that in the long run, it had a negative effect on my overall life. Same way one could argue that about anything entertaining; such as television, radio, books, board games, the internet; etcetera.
Hmm, I don't like hearing a 5-year-old screaming "nigger fucker" in Tf2 but I really think that's the parent's job, not our government. Damn lazy parents.
My mom would get pissed whenever my uncle bought me a M game, but she got really pissed when he bought me splinter cell and my grades were dropping in elementary school because face it I did not give 2 shits about School when I was younger, but now I am almost about to become a doctor and than move on to become a pathologist. Games do not cause you to become a serial killer. Games do not make you kill someone. Games do not make you do something bad. Parents are too lazy and now they want the Gov. to do everything for them, but I hate using this term but I think the parents are lazy Americans.
Besides, it was Duke that showed me guns killed :v: [editline]04:25PM[/editline] Mah automerge
99% of children think a parents-ban would be good. And parents are still there. :colbert:
I don't think i've laughed so hard in a long time. That is a VERY good argument to use against someone I hear saying they want a ban on games. Thank you.
Breaking news: Parents too lazy playing video games to actually be a parent and govern their children.
Or christian soccer moms judging ALL gamers just because few people were affected by videogames in a negative way.
I was told kids' brains don't develop the difference between real and fake until about the age of seven. Sooo... But if you knew it was fake, +1. [editline]04:30PM[/editline]
Or christian soccer moms judging ALL gamers just because few people were affected by videogames in a negative way.
Ah, Christian soccer moms in their SUVs with only 1 child and their Opera omni-season collection they watch each night, hanging on every word :foxnews: says... THOSE CRAZY WHORES!
I remember seeing this poll on that ^ They tested a whole bunch of 6-7 year olds and made them play a simple game where they swam with dolphins. About 98% of them have a clear memory of doing it in real life.
Also they only asked 2100 adults. That's bullshit, because there are a few million people living in the US, and 2100 people don't represent a few million.
yup just a few million...
I don't see any sort of problem or anything new at all here
Nice thread title OP
http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/09/15/0247244/72-of-US-Adults-Support-Violent-Game-Ban-For-Minors*
It's only in California, no one cares about THEM.
prohibits minors from purchasing ultra-violent or sexually violent video games without parental consent.
It would be like protecting kids from mutilation and raping games, lots of M rated games aren't like that, but a few are.
Why are morons still trying to make it seem like video games cause all of the rape and murders in the world.
72% of parents haven't played video games :smug:
Why are morons still trying to make it seem like video games cause all of the rape and murders in the world.
I'm not, I'm just saying that's what it seems like.
kids not buying M games without parents = video ban ban
It's only in California, no one cares about THEM. It would be like protecting kids from mutilation and raping games, lots of M rated games aren't like that, but a few are.
No one cares about California...the most important and most populated state in the country?
It would be like protecting kids from mutilation and raping games, lots of M rated games aren't like that, but a few are.
It's pretty pointless banning it if you think about it. I don't know any kid who plays Rapelay.
An all-around ban is an awful idea, but I wouldn't mind having some stricter rules for kids buying M games.
The penalty for buying an M rated game for someone underage should be comparable to buying alcohol or tobacco for minors. I don't see why anyone would think that's harsh. The ratings and restrictions are there for a reason and should be enforced to some degree.
Some people say that the kids that shot up Columbine were inspired by Doom. How the hell? The game's about shooting aliens, not people in a school!
I also heard that the song Jeremy by Pearly Jam was also the reason for the Columbine Shootings too.
I'm not, I'm just saying that's what it seems like.
I'm not directing it towards you, though I do understand not letting a 3 year old playing like Doom 3 or something like that. Though I played games like mortal kombat and counter-strike growing up, so I'm not seeing the problems with video games.
Or christian soccer moms judging ALL gamers just because few people were affected by videogames in a negative way.
No one was affected by video games in a negative way (except the MMORPG addicts who abandon their family and jobs for the game). Just some kids used video games as a scapegoat for their behavior.
