Yeah because playing a video game that you aren't allowed to play age-wise is just as damaging to them as drinking alcohol and the like

I suppose we should start punishing kids for looking at porn now, afterall it isn't legal for them to look at it until they're 18
Because, you know a beer is totally going to ruin someone's life.
Because, you know a beer is totally going to ruin someone's life.
Uh yeah, much more than video games.
Lol you're a fucking idiot bro
this is all pointless anyway because any kid can just log onto a computer and bring up some guro tentacle pornography.
It's not like Halo is going to fuck them up after that.
And it isn't just "1 beer", that isn't even a valid argument, we're talking about usage of the things in big quantities (playing a lot of M games is comparable to drinking a lot of beer to you)

Where do you get this?
Minors aren't allowed to drink even 1 beer.
Also, stop putting words in my mouth.
I'm saying that if there's a rating and a restriction, it should be enforced. It is at movie theaters, how are games any different?
Christian Soccer Moms are like the Westboro church.
They're brainwashed morons.
Play GTA: "OMG YOU GOING TO BE A SERIAL KILLER/RAPIST!"
Where do I get what? You said "a beer" which, if you understand english, means 1
Ok so?
I didn't
Movie theaters could get sued. Woop

Nah man, it is a valid argument.
It starts with 1 beer. It ALWAYS starts with the first drink.
Because, you know a beer is totally going to ruin someone's life.
See Alcoholism. Also see alcoholism affecting families etc. Stories with people with alcoholic parent(s). Beer will totally ruin someones life (Also, no apostrophe in someones) .

Just because they can't, doesn't mean they won't.
Mature games shouldn't be allowed to kids that can't differentiate fantasy from reality.
The violence is replaced with less violence in a few games (grey/green blood (portal), toys as gibs (tf2)), but that can easily be patched out, and it's not even illegal to install a "bloodpatch".

A case of the government saying what's wrong and what's right to play. Just what I don't want to see anywhere in the world. They should have a toggle in game to turn it on (default with gore), rather than some damn legislation blocking the finished product. It's more trouble for the developers to regionalize it because some old man told it to. It's the parent's responsibility. Parents need to take it. Especially now that people are waiting to have kids, you'd think the parents would be responsible enough to handle their kids!

Well of course, but he said that "one beer won't ruin someone's life"
Which technically it won't, unless they follow up on the usage.
Hey look I am a bad parent, lets ban videogames because I can't even look after my child.
Also they only asked 2100 adults. That's bullshit, because there are a few million people living in the US, and 2100 people don't represent a few million.
every time there is a thread involving a statistic someone brings this up and makes themselves look fucking retarded.

Statistics for America are confusing, because unless you do them in at least all the states then how can you say for sure that "72% of all x in the United States..."
I mean, the states are so diverse and some are more liberal, open minded, or conservative than the others (and some are just plain idiotic)

Why should it be enforced by the store? Liability? The liability should be on the parents, not the store. If the parents let their kid go to a store and buy a game and play it without them noticing, they should only blame themselves! But the majority of people today seem to be lawsuit happy, looking for ways to take the blame off of them. No one wants responsibility anymore. They all seem to want the government to feed them, house them, and do their work. It's like everyone wants everything, but not do do anything for it. "Lets have kids!" *Have kids* "Awww, I don't feel like parenting, I just wanted a kid. Lets have the government parent him!"
Even my Health teacher agreed with a student in my class that the school has to teach too many life skills (that they should learn at home) and that parents are becoming increasingly lazy. No wonder why people love socialism. I hate it; I do not like being given things, I like working for them! Being given things makes me feel worthless, and that sense has seemed to disappear with large groups of people, which is increasingly distressing.
Bottom line is that the law shouldn't get into things that don't really matter. Video games are not a threat! Alcoholism and drugs are. Solve REAL problems!

im pretty sure it said like 12,000 people which can be quite a few people per state. at that point he should be questioning the methodology used and such, but i will bet you :20bux: that he didnt even look at it.

your right the schools do spend too much time teaching life skills. they should cut down on that and teach people like you what socialism is and isnt.
Where's the link to that article where the dad taught his son to play games? The kid was about 4 (?) when he started playing Duck Hunt and played GTA once but refused to steal cars/run anyone over when he found one etc. etc.
It was a pretty cool story. Anyone happen to have the link?

i think that story makes it pretty clear that that kid couldnt tell the difference between it being a game and a real thing.
That's why I plan being the best dad in the world :buddy:

Perhaps. But that also means that he knew the possibility was there but chose not to do those things.

Instead of having to psychologically evaluate every child, it's much easier to just restrict it to a generally accepted age.
Just like how movie theaters handle these things.
There's no way this poll can be truly credible at all though, I have rarely met parents who think video games are bad. Albeit, I have met a lot who limit the games their kids play, but within reason(can't play M games until 17, shit like that).
If they ban video game sales then everyone would just pirate games from other countries

Or just let people play whatever entertainment they want and not take away their ability to do things because a bunch of politicians want to baby everyone
i think that story makes it pretty clear that that kid couldnt tell the difference between it being a game and a real thing.
Kids also do not start as racist, PARENTS TEACH THEM TO BE. It's the same sort of thing, regardless if they can't tell it's real. Young children learn to be bad through example, and telling kids that these games are bad is just propagating that(sort of like telling them to be bad. ie "You can kill people in the game with this thing, please don't" Of course the kid will explore it to see why he shouldn't.)
But I agree, the games aren't really meant for young kids, and that it's inappropriate. But it's NOT the government's job to tell what's allowed and what isn't. Suggestions are fine, but laws are dumb. Not all kids progress equally in maturity. It's up to the parents.
Hell, when I played GTA, I mainly just drove around; I was just like that kid.

Explain to me why it's necessary for a 12 year old to be playing games that involve drug use, premeditated murder, and other sorts of crime? Perhaps, even indoctrination against police.
Hell, I grew up on super mario brothers 3. That was plenty enjoyable and still is, without involving a bunch of garbage.

You grew up fine on that, most kids would grow up fine on this.
A government trying to baby the general population is never EVER good and indoctrination against the police is bullshit and you know it. I love the police!

It isn't necessary, it isn't necessary for you to have a TV or video games in the first place

Not many games really demonize cops, if anything demonizes cops it's kids in high school
