• 72% of parents think a video game ban would be good

Video game is what taught me english and also how to do fast critical thinking and has overall improved my reflexes and it's also GREAT to reduce stress. I don't see what's wrong with video games, sure some peoples may be really hardcore and play way too much like 10+ hours a day but that can be said for anything else.
Sci-Fi RTSs and FPSs spurred my interest in history and science, but they also helped me develop most of my bad habits :smith:
I don't see any sort of problem or anything new at all here
Wait, that doesn't already happen?
72% of parents are lazy and retarded.
Seventy-two percent of parents don't play video games.
Wow isn't it great that we live in a society that doesn't create laws based off of what an uninformed ignorant public? AKA why does it matter what those tools think none of them ever played a video game.
Impeded progress at what? I'm not talking about schoolwork. I won't say anything about what it does to schoolwork because hell if I know. EDIT: I used to be that faggot telling his mom not to vote for Hilary Clinton for president because she had a part in GTA: San Andreas's Hot Coffee controversy. Now I look at myself, and I say "What good have video games done for me? And what harm?" And you know what? There are few if any benefits. The few are restricted to stuff that some studies talk about like faster reflexes or whatever. Big deal.
I can understand this point if the gamer was some recluse in a basement playing WoW. However, this isn't true for the majority of gamers. I haven't really touched a game in like a month or two. I haven't touched my X360 in months. Last time was when I got Red Dead: Redemption.
I learned english from videogames, mainly rpgs. Surprisingly they did a better job than our english teacher.
ESRB Rating isn't even law. It's just a guide line for parents. The only time they enforce it is at the time of purchase.
Well I think 72 percent of parents would like a TV ban for their kids as well. I think it's just about removing "distractions" from your child's life so that they can learn 3 languages and become a concert pianist and go to Harvard. They just want to live vicariously through their children and that's just bad parenting. Honestly, most parents are bad parents.

Unless you're in english speaking country where 3rd language can be a problem.
I'm glad my mom, and dad are apart of the 28%. They adore games... Like my dad would play Fallout 3 when he was bored of watching NHL.
When I was 4 I think, I played the original GTA on the PS1. I played GTA3 a few years after it's release, but can't be sure how old I was. Vice City and San Andreas soon followed. I still haven't murdered anyone.
If it wasn't for video games, I'd probably be sleeping with 5-8 college girls atm. [editline]12:19AM[/editline] video games killed my motherboard.
Also they only asked 2100 adults. That's bullshit, because there are a few million people living in the US, and 2100 people don't represent a few million.
Add the fact that most people who waste time answering phone surveys are retarded..

It's more like this:
If it wasn't for video games, I'd probably be sleeping with 5-8 college girls atm.
Look at Facepunch. It's a site full of gamers, or people who, if they don't game now, USED to game a lot. Look at the LMAO pictures thread. People post Socially Awkward Penguins about having crushes and never talking to them, and Forever Alones about no new text messages, and they get 100 agrees.

Facepunchers are fairly cool people in our community, they're helpful to people they know, and they're generally funny. Why be condescending just because they maybe aren't very good in real life? They're just not the type of people that care about outside friends
They're just not the type of people that care about outside friends
Is that really a good thing for a person to not care about? Furthermore isn't it a bit silly to think that Facepunchers are happy where they are?
Is that really a good thing for a person to not care about?
Not quite, but it isn't overly negative either, as long as they do good in school and aren't literally scared of human-beings, they're fine.
Not quite, but it isn't overly negative either, as long as they do good in school and aren't literally scared of human-beings, they're fine.
This is the shit I taught myself as a kid, with help from my parents. Friends don't matter if you do good at school. Really? Getting a good job isn't everything. I used to be a genius kid and now I'm just above average. And my dream in life is not to be a rocket scientist or brain surgeon or anything. I want to be happy. My ideal life right now would be to marry a pretty girl and have kids with her, and keep her happy so we never get divorced. And I don't think that can happen if I'm an antisocial prick. EDIT: Good lord my first post in this thread is disagree city
When I was younger my dad got mad at me for playing video games all the time. Now that I am a few years away from being a doctor, I doubt he would say video games destroyed my life and I would have been better off without playing them. Also, I am tired of OVER SENSITIVE people FUCKING up the world. Just because YOU don't agree with something doesn't mean you should BAN it from EVERYONE. You don't like boobs? DON'T FUCKING WATCH SHOWS WITH BOOBS IN THEM. But don't fucking take them away from me. You don't like video games, DON'T FUCKING PLAY THEM. You don't like "bad words", grow the fuck up and don't listen to music or radio or television that has "bad language". Don't fucking ruin life for me, because you are too much of a god damn pansy to to hear or see something.
I've been noticing this trend in my generation too. For a land of the free, America sure is full of young people thinking it is a good idea to oppress others they don't agree with and appeal to law making bodies to make illegal victimless crimes.
Ban every other form of art while you're at it. I spent my childhood playing games like Doom, Duke Nukem, Thief: The Dark Project et cetera. I was under my father's supervision, he being an avid gamer himself. The only thing they should be banning is poor parenting.
Too damn lazy to read all the comments, but the question was loaded to achieve these results. It asked if "ultra violence" and "sexual violence" should be banned. Ultra violence can mean different things to different people. Would Manhunt be ultra violent? What about Halo? The whole question was designed to get people to agree. If they had asked "Should parents take responsibility for controlling what their children have access to", they would have had a similar number of people agree with them. Because really, is anyone going to say "no, we don't want to be responsible"?
Here's an completely logical argument. Video Games have a rating system, very similar to other forms of media like Pornographic Magazines. You must be of legal age to purchase M games, as you must be to purchase Pornographic Magazines. They are still put on the shelves however, as they are a product. Therefore, there is no reason to ban video games without banning all adult media. Games are another form of media that is already strictly regulated, and Parents need to do more research. Common sense dictates that moms don't buy their kids the latest Hustler, but why not Mass Effect 2? It's just a game right? Parents need to stop being lazy and realize that it's a product, just like Alcohol, Pornography, Movies, Television, etc. Your kids can watch porn on TV you know, it's up to you to regulate what they watch and play. [editline]11:34PM[/editline]
ESRB Rating isn't even law. It's just a guide line for parents. The only time they enforce it is at the time of purchase.
It's a law just like drinking. I rarely see Teens busted for drinking or smoking outside, but it's strictly enforced that they can't buy cigarettes or alcohol. Well, sorta a law. It's only a law at the time of purchase like you said, but that's essentially the same for Alcohol, Cigarettes, etc.
This has to be a study taken in austrailia, right? [editline]07:47AM[/editline] or germany? china?
If that bullshit about "videogames provoke violence" is true then I feel sorry if we ever find any other life in our universe, anything with tentacles is instantly fucked.( in way of speaking)
I learned most of my english in videogames.
You are now realizing that your life would be better off if you never touched a video game in your life.
I wish they never existed because then I would go out far more because there would be nothing to do in the house.
