Why?
really quite hard to find jobs in psychology, the field is super saturated
Wait wait, people are actually hating on art here? That makes no sense at all. Without art there would be no science and vice versa. How can some people be so dense, I don't know.
What.
What.
Are you fucking serious? Please be joking.
Are you fucking serious? Please be joking.
Why not explain it to him instead of insulting him.
Why not explain it to him instead of insulting him.
First of all, I was not insulting him. No idea where you got that from. And ok, I will try to explain. If something seems grammatically confusing, please excuse me, english is my third language and I am not all that good at it. Okay why do you need artists for science? For example in anatomy you need an artist to draw your skeletons and humans and stuff. A pure scientist with no artistic skills will not be able to draw such a thing. Then today many scientists hire cg artists for visualizations because scientists do science, artists show these numbers in images. Then most designs for cars and such are artistic too. Artist alone cannot design an efficient model, and a scientist cannot make it look good. And as far as I know even scientists like things that look good. Art is very important in science. And without science we would not have computers and other tools for art creation. So saying art and science are independent is very foolish. Sure you might not need philosophical thinkers but that is not the only kind of art. Not to mention without art there would be no entertainment, and with no entertainment there would be no need for many scientific fields. To create a cg movie for example you need both tech guys and art guys. Techies do the science, artists do the art. In the end you get a final product, not just a theory.
The issue with technocracy isn't with the hard sciences - it's fairly rare for there to be a lack of consensus in physics which has significant political ramifications. It's the range of fields that tend to be in a BA, from IR theory to sociology, criminology, economics and so on. flipping about is fairly evident in economics [editline]28th November 2011[/editline]
5 reasons why you suck: 1. you don't know what a liberal arts degree that is obvious 2. yet you pretend you actually do know it 3. you feel the need to make sure we all know how wrong you are about it 4. you wanna get rid of some random shit nobody cares about 5. you didn't use apostrophes when they were needed ATTN IDIOTS: LIBERAL ARTS DEGREES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ART
this (except the majors which look at the cultural intersections of art, or art throughout the world and time, and so on)
Wouldn't there still be a problem since there still is a limited number of jobs for engineers?

[editline]27th November 2011[/editline] Also a degree in Geometrical and/or Practical Drawing is fine, a degree in history of art is a waste of time and money (yeah yeah, "it's important to do what you like" and all, but that only lasts until you actually get out of college and can't get a decent job, then everyone changes their minds).
Design is artsy process.
a degree in history of art is a waste of time and money
Agree on this though. While studying history of art is good and can be useful to extend your artistic thinking, a whole degree in just that is bloody useless. It should be offered as a module to artistic courses, not an entire 4 year subject.

My cousin did art history and is now at a dig site in Israel while completing her postgrad studies

Yeah you might have better chances than an Art History major, but times are tough for everyone and a job isn't guaranteed for any field. Also, as I said before, I'd much rather excel in something unconventional than to be a sub par mathematician or engineer.
Pharmacy produces far too many graduates for the job market at the moment in my country. Same with IT and IIRC engineering
