They should keep the Blood Ravens as their main SM force. If they use anyone else they'll probably piss someone off. Besides, I don't get why the Blood Ravens get so much hate. I like 'em, despite all the "THEY STOLE MAH GUN" crap. I don't get why Relic did that.
poorly written as fuck thats why
I feel like i'm the only one here who wants an RTS/shooter hybrid. While I get that the point of Make War Not Love 3 is to see if Dawn of War 3 should be made in the first place, Relic could at least try new things with the Essence Engine between Company of Heroes 2's release and Sega's acquisition of the 40K license.
In short, I really don't want to think that Relic has been twiddling their thumbs after releasing CoH2, because the DLCs for that came could easily be made by a sufficiently bored art team.
Uh they released an entirely new faction for CoH2 late last year
I hope it goes back to DOW1 style, I really didn't like the lack of bases/development etc. I don't necessarily think it was bad, I just didn't enjoy it.

I don't think a new faction for an existing game requires the core development team. I imagine that most of the work can still be done by the art team, since it is mostly new models and textures to compliment existing code.
So yeah, I still think it'd be nice if commander units had a toggleable third person shooter.

No? It's not like they just reskinned an existing faction and said it's a new one. It's an entirely new faction with new units and new types of structures. New voice acting and it had to be balanced over time.
also no that's retarded and no one would play a rts hybrid like that. Not after the people who just play it for the campaign are done anyway. Relic have refined their own RTS formula over the years and you're telling them to throw it out the window for some stupid gimmick
Dawn of War and Company of Heroes are two very similar games and represent a timeline of how Relic refined their own flavor of RTS. A squad based RTS that has a lot of tactical decisions thrown in such as cover mechanics and directional based damage. Vehicles are also considered a separate entity and have their own rules such as directional armor and having the tank turret actually have to face the right way (Which matters more than you think it does as it allows smaller tanks to strafe around larger ones without taking damage)
Imagine dawn of war, but with the scale of supreme commander. It would be glorious.
Am I the only person who really loves the campaign in DoW2? It's more like an RPG game than a strategy game. You find loot and can gear up your characters with new weapons, armor, and trinkets. And you can play it co-op with a friend, where each of you control 2 units. I really hope that carries over to a potential DoW3, at least as an option. I don't want the campaign to go full-blown strategy. (multiplayer modes can though)
Imagine dawn of war, but with the scale of supreme commander. It would be glorious.
call it EPIC 40,000: Supreme Annihilation
with Titans or bust
no one plays single player for strategy anyway
On the topic of my hopes that DoW3 would have a shooter layered over the hero units, Warshift has proven that an RTS/Action hybrid can actually work really well. You won't believe it was done by a single person.
But personally, I really don't think the squad-based format will be hindered in any way if your hero unit doubled as a shooter. In fact, they could also implement the re-implementation of attaching hero units to your squad, although if you had a shooter in your RTS, it'd actually be the other way around due to specific unit commands. Additionally, being able to manually control your hero could allow you to win a fight where you'd otherwise lose in the traditional RTS.
Another point for a TPS in an RTS would be the inclusion of additional players in 1v1 maps, with extra players focusing on the shooter component (RTS view would still be available for the purposes of buying upgrades) while the RTS players are well... more RTS focused.
It's stupid because it's an RTS game plain and simple. It's like saying "We should add tanks to Counter-Strike"
Just because another RTS did it doesn't mean it belongs in DoW and frankly what they're doing right now with CoH is already pretty damn good
Man I feel like I'm the only one in this thread that actually enjoys Relic RTS games for it's gameplay and not for the nostalgia. I played DoW1 in high school too and played every other Relic RTS as well. They really did a good job with their own take on the genre and managed to make one of the if not the most creative RTS out there.
Even a CoH2 but with 40k would be nice. Doesn't have to change much.
call it EPIC 40,000: Supreme Annihilation

Or just call it Warhammer 40k: Armageddon.
Oh, Sweet! Dawn of War 3. This brings me joy but their webpage looks a bit like a movie screenshot.
Or just call it Warhammer 40k: Armageddon.
There's already a game with that name.
Well, my original point is still outstanding: Relic needs to be transparent about what they have been doing in the past four years, because what they've been doing while waiting on the 40K license is anyone's guess.
There's already a game with that name.
Like that's ever stopped a developer.
'ERE WE GO! 'ERE WE GO! 'ERE WE GO! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
I wouldn't mind a 40k game that played like the Wargame series, but I haven't really been a fan of Relic stuff after Homeworld
Welp, time to blare some Bolt Thrower for the next few hours.
I wouldn't mind them rereleasing DoW 1, 1:1 but with the fucking ability to zoom out a bit more cause god damn I love that game but I can't see shit
There is a camera zoom mod that lets you do just that, though it may be considered a bit unfair to play online with it.
Oh wow hey May 3rd is my birthday, what a great surprise!!!
Hopefully it goes back to Dark Crusade style, mixed with all the great things they did with combat in DoW2. I hope they push the RTS genre though, make it exciting.
May 3rd is my birthday just letting everyone know.
Neat, found this.

Love little stuff like that. :v:
Okay, real question. Why is it called Dawn of War when in the lore there's been constant warfare for tens of thousands of years? It don't make any damn sense.
Because the story of the first game was based on the book with the same title.
Do you think they will set it in 30th or the 42nd millennium like the previous dawn of war games?
I fear it'll go into a MOBA direction. I hope for the sake of us all it doesn't.

HERESY
I fear it'll go into a MOBA direction. I hope for the sake of us all it doesn't.
Pretty sure there's already a Warhammer moba in the works. No way it'll be associated with DoW.
Do you think they will set it in 30th or the 42nd millennium like the previous dawn of war games?
It'll undoubtedly be the 41st millennium, though a proper Horus Heresy rts would be amazing.
Pretty sure there's already a Warhammer moba in the works. No way it'll be associated with DoW.
That shut down about a month ago actually. It didn't even make it out of beta.
I hope it has the same style of co-op campaign DoW2 has.
Indeed. I agree completely, I loved the campaign of DoW 2 and had so much fun playing it with my buddy. Gonna replay it again soon to hype for the DoW 3.
I hope that it adds in a turn based overworld. That way you can fight an actual campaign.
I'm speaking purely from a single player or coop viewpoint here, but I'd like it if you had a selection of planets in the galaxy to choose from. Each with varying levels of difficulty due to variable levels of enemy presence and the logistics of your race. Each planet would, when seized, offer some kind of bonus to your faction. Sometimes a planet might be useless to you, but taking it might deprive the enemy of a munitions factory they need.
So much of 40k revolves around the ancient shit floating about, that it would be neat to see that come into play.
