I'm sad about the IG too, but I understand the decision. Space marines are the posterboys, there's no way around that. If they made an entirely new series focusing on IG, maybe, but Dawn of War is not. And they can't have both SM and IG in the same launch when they only have three races, that's obvious. Hopefully they'll release worthy expansions with the IG asap.

You know what I really want? A game like republic commando where you a stormtrooper or whatever they call them these days. Something like that, IG have such a nice narrative to them. Regular dudes fighting cosmic monstrosities. Space Marine are so boring in comparison, typical roided up humans in fucking power armor. It's the same reason I didn't buy into Eternal Crusade, space marines are just so fucking boring.
They do this to the Imperial Guard I am never picking up this game.
I'm with this guy
If you thought the Imperial Guard weren't going to be DLC and assumed they'd be in the game straight away, i don't think you quite understand what the focus and priority is regarding the races. There will always be Space Marines included, which means the IG aren't 'needed' as there's already an Imperial faction.
Yeah people expecting the Imperial Guard right off the bat expected too much to soon, the Space Marines have always been the first Imperial faction in the DoW games, the rest get introduced later in expansion packs.
And while I'm a massive Imperial Guard fanboy, I'm more sad that Chaos of all things apparently didn't make the cut, or perhaps they did and we just don't play as them, or we'll see more later, who knows. Also, while I do want the Imperial Guard later down the line... Admech, I'd love to see the Adeptus Mechanicus get it's time to shine as an Imperial faction.
[t]https://1d4chan.org/images/7/79/MECHANICUS.jpg[/t]
If they have willpower and dosh to do, they could do all the factions. I'd love to see Adeptus Mechanicus, Sisters of Battle, Dark Eldar, Tau, Chaos and of course Imperial Guard.
Maybe even something new, The Lost and the Damned, made of chaos worshippers, mutants, beastmen, traitor guards, mercs and hive gangs. Squishy side of the Chaos.
Well I'm not mad about not getting to play as all the factions as long as we're fighting more than just space marines, orkz, and eldar
I just hope they don't fuck it with microtransactions like CoH2, I've been waiting too long for DoW3 to be disappointed like that.

Eh no thanks. Better not to have a faction present in the game at all then it being an "NPC" faction you can't play as.
I'm super excited. Can't believe it's actually happening.
Space Marines are so boring though.
I wanna die.

You heretic. Praise the emporer.
Alright. So, Will have to begin playing elder again.
This isn't a problem, same tactics as imperial guard. Be where your enemy is weakest.
Angelos is back
Where the fuck are the Nercons? only 3 factions at launch? God damn it.
Looks real cool otherwise, glad they are going the DOW1 route.
Heh, someone pointed out the quote at the start of the trailer is ALSO in the latest Necrons Codex
Yeah I think 3 factions is a bit low. Maybe it's only 3 for the campaign though. Wouldn't surprise me if chaos showed up as non playable baddies in the campaign.

I'd like some IG units to show up as sometimes controllable npcs, like DoW1 and 2's campaigns did sometimes.

Just watch SEGA make them preorder DLC like they did with total warhammer.
I still think Relic needs to be honest about what has happened in the past four years. Even if they've been doing nothing between CoH2 and now, I'd rather they tell their fans now, because they'll find out eventually if that is in fact the case. And should they tell their fans, they could still probably sell the game, although it will have to go through the Early Access program as they iterate on the game along with its engine.
Dawn of War 1 started with only three factions, I'd be fine with a similar style of expansion pack releases. Those expansions were so worth it with what they added, I don't like buying individual races.

Actually, Dawn of War 1 started with Space Marines, Eldar, Orks and Chaos.
Swapping factions during the campaign is a turnoff for me.
Only three factions so far and no super interesting mechanics unveiled. I'm concerned that their cash flow is limited.
Man the artistic twist that they have taken is truly Amazing! For once the Eldar feel utterly alien and not simply humanoids with lithe bodies and long ears

Was wondering why it reminded me of Dark Souls and EYE, they're using the same artist for inspiration.
i am getting sick of hearing the "IG?!?!" cry everygoddamnwhere every time a new 40k game with multiple races is announced. like, they're not one of the posterboy factions, never have been and never will be, get over it already. the best way for a 40k game to get attention is to slap a big fat "SPACE MARINES!" or "ORKS!" on the front of it.
While I can get the point that the IG aren't as recognizable as the Space Beans or Orks, I think it's a lot less to do with the fact that they aren't a posterboy faction (even though I thought they were pretty high up there) and more with multiple Imperial races.
Let's be honest, assuming that if there is a 4th race, it's Necrons, they're faaaaaar less popular than the IG. Hell, even the Eldar is way less popular than the IG. If we were going on popularity alone, it would make more sense to put in the IG rather than either of those factions.

Earliest trailers and screenshots only featured Space Marines and Orks though. Chaos SMs started appearing later, and the Eldar were the last to appear on promotional materials.
As someone who knows almost nothing about Warhammer beyond DoW, why don't they ever include the Tyranids? It seems like another very different race that would a lot of variety.

And then you have the fact that the IG is probably the hardest to balance in a way that does justice to the lore.

especially Orks and Space Marines have been there from the very beginning, with the Eldar and Chaos following very soon after. that's the classic quartet. the Guard were there - as the "Imperial Army" - but they were more like sidekicks for the Marines before becoming the heavily overhauled and redesigned Imperial Guard and getting their own tanks and what have you.
I was kind of on the fence about this.
Then I saw Knight Errants and decided I needed this in my life.

Tyranids were in 2.
