We have to ban aluminum cans and iron oxide (rust) because people can make thermite out of them!
Ban the ability to rust!!!
Ban the ability to rust!!!
An aluminum frame bike with a rusty chain is really a bike bomb! CRACK DOWN ON KIDS RIDING BIKE BOMBS.
People can also make IED's out of household products. Wanna ban those too?
Why would I care about someone making an IED? If they're going to make it then they're going to make it.
I'm taking about people irrationally using their weapon in the 'heat of the moment' so to speak. You cannot place a gun into everyone's hand and expect civility. It's impossible.
Massacre shootings are ridiculously unlikely to kill you. A horse is probably significantly more likely to kill you. A deer almost certainly is (not directly, but those fuckers love to stand in the road). No point in passing any law for a crime that is generally the result of some form of mental illness. You can't expect to stop crazy.
Other crime rates you CAN affect. Poverty and education have strong ties to them. If we'd stop funding our military like crazy and fund education we could easily fix our education issue and likely fix our poverty issue pretty effectively as well. Particularly if we combined our education fix with universal health care and a retrofit of our welfare system.
No need to upend society. Just do what we should have been doing from the start, fund education and set a poverty line that is actually realistic so we can recognize how fucked we are and fix it.
I agree with you completely. Sadly education only gets more and more cuts. And yet money still gets poured into military like crazy. Not to be a conspiracy nut, but stupid people are easier to control.
Yeah, you're probably right. His ears are definitely going to be ringing though.
He has bigger concerns at this point. Plus, ringing is minimal (at least it was for me after 3-4 shots with 12 gauge buckshot with no ears on) and is probably gone by now.

Um...what? IED's can be heat of the moment as well. You care about people's ability to make other types of weapons because taking guns away doesn't fix the desire to kill and mame.

So if I have an IED on my person, and someone attacks me and I detonate "in the heat of the moment", are you going to ban them as well?

In the heat of the moment you can kill someone using your fists or any nearby object.
Agreed.
Something that is kind of off-topic, but I could help but notice, is that he probably damaged his eardrums a little bit by being that close to a firing shotgun without hearing protection.
not really. I've shot dozens of rounds without hearing protection and my hearing is fine.
So if I have an IED on my person, and someone attacks me and I detonate "in the heat of the moment", are you going to ban them as well?
I am quite sure IEDs are already illegal.
not really. I've shot dozens of rounds without hearing protection and my hearing is fine.
I should stop making this argument. I only shoot with hearing protection on (unless it's a .22, those things just go pop pop pop).
I am quite sure IEDs are already illegal.
Yet criminals use them anyway.
Still wanna ban guns?
I am quite sure IEDs are already illegal.
they're not, not as long as you pay the $200 tax stamp for a destructive device.
I am quite sure IEDs are already illegal.
So how would that stop someone from getting a hold of a gun if IEDs are illegal and people still make them?
Yet criminals use them anyway.

Then should we unban speeding? Criminals drive fast anyway.
Note I don't actually want guns banned. They're banned here and it's a shame. Guns are nice collectibles.

To make an effective argument, let's go blow up a stadium with an IED made from soda cans and rotten cherries. :v:

Surprisingly, no.
Binary explosives are fairly legal in the US.
And yet magically we don't blow each other up with them.

And they're fun to shoot. :v:

Mix it with gasoline, and you've got a fun 4th of July party! :v:

I think you can add that to the end of just about anything and it would still work. :P
from: "I've got the beer" to "Is that a goat in your bathroom?"

What are you going on about IEDs for? You're trying to make the point that if a criminal wants to kill they'll find a way, banned or not. Sure, whatever.
I'm making the point for the third time that widespread access to guns means more random killings because people in general are too stupid for them. Not everyone should be allowed access to a gun. This is a fact. There are too many stupid and screwed up to be allowed guns.

The availability of guns has nothing to do with killings.
Yet again... Killers will find ways to kill. Knives, baseball bats, rocks...even gas and matches for fuck's sake.

you're too cynical. people are smarter than you think.

Yes, but if you prevent the responsible people from being able to own a gun, then that just doesn't work. When you do that, only people with criminal intentions will be able to get guns (because they would still be plentiful in the back alley black markets), leaving the rest of us defenseless.
It really does appall me when people call for gun bans. It is a right, it is not greater nor lesser than any other rights granted by the Bill of Rights and you can't get rid of one right just because you don't like it without affecting all the others.
We already have all manner of unconstitutional laws regarding guns (NFA, GCA, Hughes Amendment) which have been in place for decades, the NFA alone has been law since 1934 and the GCA since 1968 and I don't see how they've had any effect on gun crime, especially seeing as the NFA was rendered ineffective due to inflation till the Hughes Amendment cut off the supply of Title 2 weapons in 1986 and made them inaccessible to all but the upper class again.
People aren't violent, people under pressure become violent, it's just a matter of how much pressure before they crack. Maybe it's financial issues, feeling like they can't feed themselves or pay their bills to keep their homes, that's pressure for sure, and sometimes people feel pressure from problems that aren't really there, like hardcore conspiracy theorists who feel that someone or something is out to get them.
Exactly. I seem to recall a well laid out plan in a previous thread where someone laid out how they could easily kill a shitload of people with a longbow.
That was me. I'd sooner kill myself than do such a thing though, and I mean that.
It's just about planning, which the disturbed individuals who decide to carry out their crimes tend to do for weeks or months in advance.
Not everyone should be allowed access to a gun. This is a fact.
That is not a fact, it's an opinion based on personal interpretation of subjective manners and thus cannot even begin to approach the realm of objectivity.
Acting as though one's opinions are fact is an immense logical fallacy and greatly reduces your credibility.

Actually, I personally would not want guns to be in the hands of mentally unstable people. I don't know about you, but the idea of someone with severe mental illness owning a gun does not give me a warm fuzzy.

unless of course your opinions actually are fact, as is my case.

I'd like less narrow minded bigots, myself.

"I don't like what I'm hearing so I'm going to ask the offending people to leave."
Listen to yourself. It's childish. Don't be like that.
I would like to see less americans in this thread.
Why?
The legal ramifications of issues pertaining to or relating to occurrences such as this most directly effect Americans, are you implying that we shouldn't have a say or be able to discuss it?

How about actually debating the content of my post instead of telling me how my highly agreed upon opinion is not a fact. Because surely anyone in their right mind would agree with my statement.
