Around where I live we get these ten-lined june beetles.

They can hiss if you disturb them, incidentally the first time I saw one of these things it was on my shirt, just a few inches below my chin... you can imagine my reaction when I tried to pull it off and it just kept clinging and started hissing :v:

his very last segment had like a suction cup on it and he used it to grasp stuff, and it also glowed on and off just like a firefly. Also his stomach was all squishy.

My best friend went to Malaysia 2 years ago and found quite a few of these; only the females retain this form, while the adult males look like ordinary beetles.
Im starting to think that the the world outside of NA is a hellish wasteland of evil organisms...
I wish there was more cool wildlife threads. But every time someone makes one it dies out after 1-3 pages.

But it would be nice to be able to see what bugs, birds, reptiles, etc. that people find.
postal, I had no idea you were a bug enthusiast.
we have those in arizona, they literally eat tarantulas

also whip scorpions, but they dont fly, they just spit poison
Bullshit, the most the spray would do is irritate the eyes and leave you smelling like vinegar.

I don't know what rolly pollys do but I love 'em. They look like black jelly beans waddling on the ground.
I disagree. Anything which I cannot best with my fly zapper swatter is a boss bug, and I don't fuck with those. The best you can hope for is it standing still while you can get the largest textbook you have and throw it at it.

Not to say urethra-tunnelling micro-bugs would not be terrifying as well.
Did you read the part about the butt?
Someone should really start a bug thread. I'm arachnophobia and love looking at stuff like this. Most bugs are pretty cool, just fuck spiders.
They aren't that horrifying actually.
I mean, you can at least see them properly and they don't look like they've got any stingers to poison you with.
They also probably don't buzz, I imagine they sound like an RC plane.
Wasps are still scarier.
beetle + dragonfly = nope
?
fucking Chimera Ants

I, on the contrary, quite enjoy spiders.

Jumping spiders are cute until they jump
Don't be so hard on them, the worst you can do to someone with a phobia is mocking them.
They can always go to a therapist if it's too bad, having a severe fear towards something as mundane and (mostly) innofensive as bugs can get on your way of life really hard.
On the cricket itself, I remember a book about insects I had since kindergarden that had a huge image of this little guy and always found it fascinating. Sure it brings back memories.
Crickets are omnivores, opportunistic predators, and cannibals. Be glad they're small. Be very fucking glad they're small.
