I don't like him because he keeps fucking with the original trilogy. Stop adding CGI bullshit and let me watch the originals. He says he's just fixing his movies, but the problem is that they aren't his movies, they're OUR movies. Once you make something that touches so many people emotionally you can't fuck with it and not expect them to get mad. Plus he has made it impossible to buy the originals unedited.
I sort of like the guy because he made the Original Trilogy and the first three Indiana Jones films, but he got really greedy as time went on, and I sort of dislike him now for bastardizing some of my favourite film series'. I say this is very good news.
He didn't even direct Episodes 5 and 6. After 4 they realized how bad at directing he was.
[editline]18th January 2012[/editline]
As you can see, he wrote and directed Ep4
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/
But he was only 1 of 3 writers, and not the director of Ep5

And the Indiana Jones movies were directed by Steven Spielberg.
So honestly, he wasn't as involved in his older movies as he was in the new Star Wars Trilogy.
I'm glad I have my vhs of the original 3 Star Wars movies.
In the Gold box set.
I can recall the day I bought it...
No, but he played a massive part in making the films. You can see he did by the Ewoks in ROTJ..
fucking finally. now he can release boring, poorly made, shot-reverse-shot and CG-i laden pieces of shit every so often for us to laugh at without pissing on a fondly-remembered series
"Why would I make any more," Lucas stated about continuing with his popular sci-fi universe, "when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"
Lesson learned kids! If you ever encounter negative feedback from your customers, don't fix the problem, just give up and quit!
Historical Drama.... Snicker.....
if you don't want everyone to hate you for being an idiot, don't be an idiot.
And I don't mean the prequels - sure they were bad, but they were just bad films. I'm talking about his complete refusal to have the original cuts of the original films available on any decent format (the DVD versions are shit)
original trilogy rocked socks
after that it was (in my opinion anyway) made for kids.
seriously look at them! there is no way in hell that the target audience for any of the newer star wars movies over the age of 14.
even the new star tours in Disneyland is filled with sillyness and its got to have been on purpose right?
.....
right?
So incorrect in so many ways...
Might wanna do some research. Also, who the fuck is "they".
You fucked up Star Wars for us, Lucas.
Case in point:
I think the first "nooo" was fine, the second was a bit excessive.
Also I kind of liked the prequels, while episode I and II weren't that great, episode III was fine.
I heard somewhere that George Lucas' original script for Star Wars (1977) had the main characters as aliens and c3p0 was some sort of lizard thing
also what's this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458291/
Am I the only person that sees nothing wrong with the current star wars? (except that animated bullshit new one that came out some years ago).
Poor George in our own way we still love him for Making Star Wars in the first place but unfortunately like Anakin he lost his way and succumbed to the Dark Side know as corporate Greed, i don't hate you George i just hate what you've become such a great man ruined by money and power.
Funny actually: /tg/ was having a Star Wars discussion last night, and one of the points raised was that Lucas is very much like Hideo Kojima; he can come up with good ideas and settings, but only if he's surrounded by saner people to reign him in when he strays into stupid instead.
I'd love to see what he comes up with.
ALSO
I would watch the fuck out of that.

No it's just the fact that he got old, "kid friendly," was too caught up in technology, wasn't as adventurous and willing to take risks, etc

He's good at creating that universe and planting the seed in more creative people's heads like Ralph McQuarrie and Lawrence Kasdan
Garry will do the same one day.
He'll get fed up with people bitching whenever he updates gmod and abandon it.
So he rapes my childhood, leaves his jizz all over its back, THEN decides to give up sex.
I still don't understand why he'd go and make edits to the blu-ray versions of the OT. I'll stick to my VHS copies thank you very much.
Honestly I love Lucas and I think the idea of clone wars and the original Star Wars were masterpieces that were ahead of their time... he just did the newer episodes the wrong way, he kinda forced himself to show how Darth Vader was made without doing it the right way, then couldn't help but run with the clone wars for too long.
Sure, he fucked up remakes, but you'd be an asshole not to admit he's still done a lot of amazing work, he just isn't his younger self though. The originals were amazing, then he kinda... lost his way. Yeah, he is a shitty director, but for starting the ball rolling for great movies? He's really amazing at it, maybe too imaginative for directing, mainly because he tries so hard to put too much into it.
Though I must admit, not making Samuel L Jackson a gigantic yelling manly bad ass that got his way was a HUGE mistake, and seeing Yoda fight disappoints me greatly, because it MISSED THE ENTIRE MESSAGE YODA CREATED. And Anikan, I honestly couldn't care for the character himself.
Fuck you, Lucas.
Loved the new Star Wars films. But if you look at his Filmography and hold it up agains Steven Spielberg or newcomer Peter Jackson... He really is a scrub. I've not ever been wow'ed by any of his projects outside Star Wars and he's never directed a film that isn't star wars.
What has this guy ever done to not deserve the flak?
I've never seen the original Trilogy. When I get around to watching it, should I just find some VHS copies or does the blu-ray editing really fuck it up beyond belief?
I've never seen the original Trilogy. When I get around to watching it, should I just find some VHS copies or does the blu-ray editing really fuck it up beyond belief?
I watched the original cut with a friend who had it on DVD. I think he said it had the edited version and the unedited.
Probably because the more recent movies you made were terrible.
That doesn't make him a terrible person. He wanted to put his ideas into film and show it to the world, but then was met with severe criticism, both to his films and as a person. While I didn't really like most of his newer works, he didn't deserve the personal attacks.
I may sound stupid and should probably expect a large number of boxes in my future, but I want to say this:
I'm a child of the Prequel Age.
I don't give a crap about the complaints, I love all the Star Wars movies the same.
I can live past Jar Jar, I feel the Midichlorian and Han shooting first issues greatly exaggerated, I still love the podrace (WITH ALL deleted scenes), I love the additions of Ep3 Anakin to RotJ, Jabba to ANH, and others to the original triology, and I fail to see how any of the CGI sucks within the context of the films.
I'm not saying they're faultless. I've never felt myself a good judge of acting, and will relent with people complaining about Anakin & Padme's performances and similar issues. I also understand that Lucas may not be a pefect scrpit writer. I know that bringing up the Expanded Universe doesn't really help to explain any story problems. I agree that adding a Big NO to Vader's lines at the end of RotJ was a little too much.
But I grew up with the prequels, and The Phantom Menace was really what got me into Star Wars when I was a kid. So even if a day will come where I look back and realize that all these films are faulty, I will always enjoy them for how they got me started with a certain faraway galaxy.
More on topic, I'm going to miss seeing Lucas try more big-name films. I would've liked to see him go beyond the Star Wars series and work on other titles that were popular yet not sci-fi related. A shame he feels that way too about his complainers.
I don't see him as greedy or stupid or clueless in regards to how he has run (No, I did not forget to put an "I" there) the franchise. He isn't solely responsible for everything Lucasfilm churns out, and if there is scrupulous things going on there, it's probably due to somebody else. I see him has a man with great (yet not brilliant) ideas who simply cares alot about trying to perfect his works.
I do feel sorry for the guy. I mean, the Star Wars universe was absolutely brilliant. and was WAY ahead of its time. Still is, as a matter of fact. I love the universe he created, if not his movies. Shit, I'll even e-mail him to say so, as soon as I find out how.

American Graffiti
People forget that he practically invented the modern teen sex comedy with American Graffiti the same way he created the modern sci-fi fantasy special effects epic with Star Wars.
Not many directors can claim to have started a genre, much less TWO genres.
It only makes his failures with the prequels more 'wtf?'. Somewhere along the way he forgot how to make films and became a toy salesman.
