The Age of the Snow Queen is Over: Zootopia now the biggest opening in Disney Animation history

I expected this to be yet another one of those box-office bombs disney's been suffering, which comes when they try really hard to be funny. Honestly surprised it turned out like this.
I find it funny that all these people are getting this riled up over something that happens in any fandom, not just with furries, and is nothing new. Let's not go full Helen Lovejoy/Soccer Mom here. The amount of rule 34/porn of a TV show, movie, comic, etc. is always proportionate to the popularity of said TV show, movie, comic, etc. (In other words, the more popular something is, the more rule 34/porn that will be produced).
There's literally porn of nearly any movie character ever made ever, why is it "wrong/bad" only when furries do it? All I'm getting here is a double standard.
Many furries inevitably advertise and there is inevitably drama for and from, that's the issue.
I would watch it but I can't find any screenings on english. Everything is translated into Swedish :ohno:
Was definitely one of the better animated films I've seen. Certainly geared towards younger audiences, but it had a lot of more mature references that made it a fun watch. Would see again.

Just notice the SafeSearch turned ON.

But by all means, explain to me how "it's not a fetish", when even a kid googling for Zootopia pics could run into those.
This remind me of the time when i was in middle school trying to look for a picture of sonic to print out and I came across a pic of tails getting fucked in the ass by sonic :v:
Seems like a new movie record is broken every few years.
The next visually appealing and easily marketable pixar movie will beat this, and on and on and on.
Never. I sincerely doubt anyone in Disney's animation studios knows more than the most basic, rudimentary level of 2D cell animation these days.
I have a few buddies in and around DAS, from what I hear a good amount of them are still familiar with 2D animation. Even though the movies are CGI, a lot of pre-production work is still done 2D, and Pre-vis starts as rough 2D animation. 2D animation is even still part of the curriculum at some art schools for their 3D animation lines, such as RCAD, SCAD, and Gnomon.
I remember seeing some 2D animated test footage for Frozen, would have been rad if that movie was traditionally animated.

Because fapping to a human character isn't as bad as fapping to an animal.
Edit:
You can notice any difference how people judge things across categories and so long as you're able to strip out and willingly ignore relevant circumstantial details, you can call out 'double standards' everywhere you look.
is this movie worth seeing because all i see about it is "oh my god furries like this" like it fucking matters
i'm going to assume from the article, my friend's reaction, and from the trailer i've seen that it is
snip
At least it doesn't have another "let it go" right? Right?

there's one english one every day here, do you live in the middle of nowhere?
I saw the film (in English) and enjoyed it, there are at least two English screenings a day here.

A surprising amount of kids watched the English screening, I guess they are really good at reading subs or just know English.

Uhhh loads of Pixar movies have been more successful than Zootopia, with even the recent Inside Out getting a bigger opening weekend lol. This record is just about Disney Animation Studio films..

I live around the Sundsvall area so I tried looking into Filmstaden cinema there.

I actually thought it was pretty mature overall - especially in the beginning where Judy got bullied pretty seriously, and just about everyone told her that her dreams are shit and she will never be anything. Then there's the abuse she had on the job, getting told to die over a parking ticket, etc.

take the train up to umeå :downs:
Oh, for the late 90's, when furry was "the worst thing ever" on the internet.
All seems so quaint, now.
Yep, that's localization. And I thought it was cool that the signs & characters say Zootropolis in Europe.
Zootropolis in Europe.
i really don't understand this change though, why
i really don't understand this change though, why
Zootopia was already registered.
Yeah, Zootopia is already an upcoming zoo in Denmark. Isn't metropolis also a more international word (than utopia)?
denmark only though, doubt it's for that reason, apparently it's "more attractive to europeans"
this just causes confusion
Yeah no it´s definitely a dumb change. Not like it´s the first one we´ve experienced either.

Neat
Would have been nice to have bear in russian release but nope... Russia is not big enough for this stuff... :v:
I would imagine furries are an extremely niche subgroup of this film's audience.
No, the main audience is... Children.
Which is almost as bad, really. But there are more of them.
I'd say this is closer to The Fantastic Mr. Fox or Ducktales in its depiction of anthropomorphized animals, though.
I don't understand?
I don't really think this deserves another thread so I'll update this one:

Box Office: Disney's 'Zootopia' Tops $500M Worldwide
Walt Disney has announced that Zootopia will cross $500 million worldwide as of today. It is the third-consecutive Walt Disney Animated Studios movie to reach said milestone, following Big Hero 6 and Frozen. And you can throw Tangled onto the pile as well, although Wreck-It-Ralph clocked out at “just” $471m back in 2012.
At this rate, the Ginnifer Goodwin/Jason Bateman/Idris Elba animated adventure will soon surpass Tangled both domestically ($200m) and worldwide ($591m) and next set its proverbial sights on the $222m domestic and $657m worldwide gross of Big Hero 6. After that, it’s basically the biggest-grossing Walt Disney animated feature ever after The Lion King and Frozen.
For the moment, Zootopia has earned $163.8 million domestic after fourteen days of play (as of Thursday). It is quite likely that it will end the weekend just over the $200m mark with a possible final gross of $275-$300m depending on A) how it weathers Batman v Superman and B) to what extent Zootopia and The Jungle Book can coexist in a month’s time if Zootopia is still pulling them in.
The film has already become Disney’s biggest non-Pixar toon ever in China, Russia, and Thailand. It opened yesterday in Brazil and Australia while it opens in the United Kingdom next Friday. The last big one is Japan which gets the picture on April 23rd. There will be more to discuss once we see where it ends up by the end of the weekend.
