UH OH: Microsoft Bringing a 'Beloved Franchise' to Windows 8

Spider Solitaire 2 HD win8 exclusive
It'd show how little faith Microsoft have in their OS if they had to force people to upgrade via the enticement of a game that should have been on PC for a very long time.
New Freelancer, make it happen
Windows 8 is a buggy piece of shit. Not to mention Metro always popping up when you least want it to, and it bitches at you constantly about having no RAM when you'd have 8-16gb. Not worth it for just Halo.
What do you mean, popping up when you least want it to? I literally never see it when I don't want/need it. I disabled/uninstalled all the stupid "apps" like the photo viewer, music player, etc. and replaced them with better equivalents I downloaded, and since doing this upon first setting up my computer, I have never had that trouble.
This forum's windows 8 hate bandwagon is really out of hand and unjustified. I doubt any of you have tried the os for more than a few minutes
It's a bandwagon, what do you expect? It's not limited to the forum, but that's the nature of people ganging up to shit on things, regardless of how much that thing deserves it or not. I never have the problems people bitch about; maybe I'm lucky, or maybe I just don't find myself in situations where those problems happen. I don't feel like a lot of the fuss is justified, but I still very much understand it.
Windows 8 sucks so Windows 9 will be the best OS ever.
Crimson Skies?
Oh man, we fucking NEED another Crimson Skies game.
Not a PC game, but we need another Metal Arms game, too.
Says the one on windows 7. I've been using windows 8 for months now, don't try and tell me I have no right to complain.
I've been using windows 8 since the developer beta releases and haven't had much to complain about, ever. there's always been room for a ton of stuff to improve, and 8.1 definitely helped smooth out a lot of functions, but people are still up each other's asses over metro
my stance:
• if you have 7, don't spend your money you're doing OK
• if you have a chance to get it for free, get it
• if it comes with a new computer and you overwrite it with 7 because you hate metro just throw the whole thing in the garbage
[editline]e[/editline]
also if you haven't upgraded to 8.1 just do it, it's free and does wonders beyond "just adding a start icon to your task bar" like a lot of people believe

I can confirm this has everything to do with win8 and not hardware or drivers

I used it for a few weeks, no thanks. Sure I can make it look like Windows 7, but then why not use Windows 7?
What is the point of using an operating system that adds virtually nothing and only makes your life more difficult with a confusing touch-screen based menu?
I'm hoping for a Hover remake or failing that, Age of Mythology 2.

considering the way to invoke metro is the exact same way as the old start menu and I've never heard a peep about RAM when I have 8GB on my home computer, 8GB on my laptop and 16GB on my work PC, I'd wager you're objectively wrong
Microsoft owns the Mechwarrior franchise I'm pretty sure. I'd love another Crimson Skies or Freelancer, but those aren't such well-known games. Mechwarrior, on the other hand, has been a solid franchise for the company.
Edit: Okay this is just confusing. Anyone know who actually has the rights?
Why not do a remake of Fury3 or Hellbender?
I can't believe I forgot about those gems.
You know, if you guys just tried windows 8 with a start button, you would probably like it better then 7.
i have a start button on my windows 8 and i like vista more than windows 8
You know, if you guys just tried windows 8 with a start button, you would probably like it better then 7.
even if that were true (it's not, believe me) I just really want microsoft to fail at everything they try to do.
Meh, I already played the hell out of Halo 3 on the xbox. It was alright but not great, most of the fun was doing custom games with friends.

Beyond metro I haven't had much to complain about either, doesn't mean I'll let him get away with such a stupid post. For every person complaining about windows 8 you'll get two or three of him accusing us of not having used the OS, accusing us of bandwagoning. Fuck off, i'll complain about something if I bloody well want to, and I have every right to do so as a customer and user.
Certainly wouldn't put it past MS to arbitrarily make the game W8/DX11.1 exclusive just to benefit from upgrade sales, not because it's more beneficial to devs or users.
I wonder if SteamOS will have any impact on these sorta strategies if it actually eventually becomes a thing.
Yes, people won't be able to play games made by Microsoft.

Have they ever done this before? I don't think they will, doesn't make any sense.
Why would they piss off their userbase when alternative gaming operating systems are starting to catch traction?

they stopped selling windows 7, why would they promote an OS they can't even make money from anymore? I'm 99% sure EA/DICE received a lot of money to make BF4 run like utter shit on everything aside from windows 8 and it wouldn't be the first time microsoft spent a ludicrous amount of money on something as arbitrary as that.

because if you stop supporting something the second you stop selling it then why would i buy any of your new products if you're just going to drop support after 4 years?
[editline]2nd January 2014[/editline]
sets a bad precedent

They have, Remember halo 2?

you know, you'd think that logic would make sense. though the existence/success of Call of Duty and Battlefield boldly contradict everything you just said.
They have, Remember halo 2?
halo 2 was already out on consoles for 3 years at that point, and XP was 6 years old, not 4.

that's great, we all have the right to provide our experiences
who's to say he hasn't used 8? What if he uses it on one computer and not the other? I post a lot from work on w7, whereas my personal computers run 8.
Even then does he not have the right to say "a lot of people could still be riding the w8 hate bandwagon based on hearsay"? these kind of people are always out there

you can still play old cod games when new ones come out, the fanbase just jumps ship. in this case the operating system itself is being depreciated after only 4 years by the developer.

Regardless, it's the kind of thing Microsoft would do. Just because the last time they did it the numbers were a little smaller doesn't mean they won't do it again.

i guess the difference is that vista managed to get a port of an already old game, whereas microsoft is proposing depreciating windows 7 and releasing big titles on windows 8 with consoles simultaneously.
microsoft flight simulator 11!
Spartan Assault 2
If it's shitty as GFWL no thanks
