Why waste money on grenade launchers why not tungsten telephone poles launch from fucking space [editline]11:45PM[/editline] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_bombardment
Because It's fraught with technical issues, as well as the fact it's much cheaper just to hit whatever you need destroyed with bombs from jets.
Because you can carry a Mk. 19 around with you all the time.
I can't wait to become a Cav. Scout. And Mark 19's are beasts. Just saying.
No launching these fuckers is like setting off a tact nuke off
Noob tubing just got real
Next we're going to have Bolters. Because we need .75 caliber Self propelled mass reactive rounds fired from a massive gun.
As badass as that is, a fully automatic shotgun that fires grenades is still more badass.
AA-12 isn't all it's stacked up to be. Plus those grenades aren't all that effective. And they're heavy as shit.
AA-12 isn't all it's stacked up to be. Plus those grenades aren't all that effective. And they're heavy as shit.
Those grenades are meant to be a force multiplier, you're supposed to pump a volley of them at a target. As for weight it weighs the same unloaded as an unloaded M14.
USA: "I have 18 pounds of SAPI plates, air support, and a semi-automatic, shoulder fired, 25mm airburst grenade launcher!" Insurgent: "I, uhhh, have this AK-47 and an extra magazine" USA: :smug:
Actually you would be surprised. The Taliban in Afghanistan are way more hardcore compared to the ones in Iraq. These guys know how to work and operate in small groups, use covering fire and other military type techniques, they actually know how to fire mortars and be accurate, plus the Taliban in Afghanistan are war hardened seeing as this isn't their first war with outsiders. And if that didn't make things worse there is only one major highway though Afghanistan and these guys know how to use the land against the US. These guys are not by any means some pushovers, the Taliban in Afghanistan are way tougher and have stronger roots in the afghan.
So now it'll be easier for us to blow shit up. I could say that's awesome, & get a bunch of dumb ratings from pacifists. Or I could say it's retarded, & get a bunch of dumb ratings from war sympathizers. Fuck it, let's just skip to the dumb ratings. Hit me.
Where's the love for Milkor MGL? :saddowns: I assume it'd probably be a lot cheaper in quantity.
the ammunition is bulkier and it is an all around less effective weapon
They need satellites that fire at non-registered satellites
Lol noobtubers
http://kitup.military.com/2010/02/army-spends-big-on-smart-high-explosive-weapon.html?ESRC=army.nl Yea we totally need a grenade launcher rifle against unarmored terrorists.
You do realize that 25mm grenades are utterly useless against armored targets, don't you?
They need satellites that fire at non-registered satellites
They have those already. :ninja:
Those grenades are meant to be a force multiplier, you're supposed to pump a volley of them at a target. As for weight it weighs the same unloaded as an unloaded M14.
But in order to pump volley after volley of ammunition at them, you need ammo to start with. I take it you know how heavy 10-20 rounds of 12 gauge ammo is. Imagine carrying hundreds of them in large, bulky, awkward magazines. Even if you had multiple people carrying ammo, it would still be awkward. Add that weight to the kit of a soldier, plus his AA-12, shotgun ammo, and side arm + ammo. He'd probably carry an M4 too, because a shotgun/grenade launcher isn't completely useless, but makes that soldier dead weight when engaging targets at range. Not to say shotguns are useless in ranged combat, just that they aren't exactly ideal. Hell, he'd have to worry about several types of ammo to carry anyways.. It's just not worth it. [editline]10:29PM[/editline]
You do realize that 25mm grenades are utterly useless against armored targets, don't you?
Not really. Shaped charge fired at the right velocity ought to cause some damage. Unless it's a modern tank. Then it would take a fuckton of luck.
Insurgent: Kills US soldier with reliable weapon that is cheap to fire
Not really, most of the casualties on our side are from IEDs, not AKs.
we'll blow the economy back into shape
What the fuck? You can't just spam grenades everywhere, friendly fire is always on in real life!
25mm? That wouldn't be on the same power level as a 25mm from a Bradley would it.. I guess not, even 40mm HE's fired from a M203 look weak as shit whereas a Bradley's 25mm just.. fucking downs buildings
So that's what happened to the OICW's tech. Kinda cool, but wait until the lens on the scope gets all fucked up from the sand, or the battery runs out, or the little onboard computer breaks, or a round gets rusty or dirty and the little contacts they use to copy detonation delay over to the rounds fail.
Should have took the PAW-20. A much sexier alternative. Then again, no airburst.
We already have the legs and autotargeting guns, it's just a matter of supergluing them on top of each other. They kinda have exoskeletons.
That's only to help shield you. If an, IED, in a bad situation, did go off, it would go straight through that.
As badass as that is, a fully automatic shotgun that fires grenades is still more badass. [editline]hahaha[/editline] You have manliness issues if you go and rate me dumb.
Or you realize the AA-12 is nothing more than practically a Saiga 12 that's really really heavy and shitty That and shotguns have little practical use in modern combat beyond breaching or room clearing.
Y'know, this looks awesome, but the only way it'd be practical in fully-efficient terms would be for taking out massive mechs, T-Rex's or other unrealistically-huge enemies which won't be around for decades yet. Perhaps China'll supply some mechs as XM25-fodder if we ever end up in conflict with them?
25mm? That wouldn't be on the same power level as a 25mm from a Bradley would it.. The projectile itself is also longer, heavier, and traveling alot faster.

I like the part about being 300% more lethal than any other rifle.
